Official Drexel Thread For Class Of 2007

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
yeah, jmwalker. i saw those cali residencies too 🙂.   i'm predicting i'll hear from drexel this week -- maybe friday or saturday!

OK, I put in family practice, which should make Lola feel better, since it's pretty easy to get a spot in CA for family med. I also added a few more that I forgot....medicine at Einstein, and Med/Psych at UVA. I'm not putting in slots where people only got a prelim spot, as that doesn't say much. We had A LOT of people applying for derm (I think 11-12), and obviously, a decent # didn't make it. I think 7/8 made it last year, though. Some people are still undecided, too.
It's funny, I've never even been to CA, so I don't even look at match lists in these terms, but I'm glad the list makes you feel a little better. I know it's important to a lot of those people to go back home. 🙂 That said, the goodly majority of our class is from the NE.

Bringing this one up to see if there are any new additions. Reread that matchlist and it is pretty good. I am excited.

Lola are you heading to Drexel when you hear this wk....Gtown is sweet tooooooooo. Tough decision!

she heard and was waitlisted and I'm pretty sure she said she was going to take Gtown over Drexel. she may have already sent off her withdraw letter. I'm putting the good money on her getting into a UC tho. She's out of the country thats why I'm pretending to know everything about her. 🙂

yeah - you are right about lola --- She is sending out a wihdrawl letter, she likes DC better than Philly.

hey everyone, i may be at drexel this fall...i'm on the waiting list there and i'm in at PCOM, so if i get off the list i'm gonna have to decide where i want to go. either way, i'm gonna be living with 2 friends in a house about a minute walk from drexel. my friend just bought the house...its really sweet, totally redone on the inside so everything is brand new. jmwalker, if youre still thinking about living in the city i have a lot a friends who live in the jefferson area and i know of a few places with available apartments, also there are TONS of houses available in manayunk and east falls if you're thinking about living with some roommates.

man it's gonna be cold!!!!

i'm looking forward to meeting all of ya. they should give Drexel gear or something just to boost pride 😉. You figure with 35000 going into their pockets they'd have some change for that...hahahah.

When's everyone moving out there.....i'm slated to go around july 15th....I'm gonna be living in Charlwin apartments....anyone else in that complex or vicinity?

take it easy

I decided not to live in the city and am trying to fix up my crap car so I won't be leashed to east falls -- I found a house there where I will be living.

anyone have any idea what the rental market is like in philly? is it possible to find a place and move in right away or do you need to have something secured in advance? the reason i ask is I'm in cali right now and will have very limited time to fly out there before the middle of july.

anyone have any tips for places to look online? i've tried philly.com, but it didn't seem very helpful.

Thanks for the help!! I can't wait to see you all in a few months!
🙂

I haven't looked at it myself, but it's worth a shot.

Has anyone gotten any new information from them lately? I haven't gotten any mail from them in awhile. I just moved too, so I'm not sure if something's been lost in the in-between, or if there's just been a dry spell in mailings.

Thanks,

Bob

the only thing that i got recently was an apartment guide and room mate list....it was kinda tight as it was marked with paperclips on places around the school to live at...pretty coo in my opinion. Otherwise nothin really.....

got my entrance interview (for loans and ****) on the 17th of June

hey buca...

the apartment mgmt company Classic Mgmt Inc, runs a bunch of places around Drexel Med.

Their number is 215-848-2100.....talk to Wendy Morris (she's the manager of my building, Charlwin Apts) cuz she may be able to help you out.

hope this works; personally tho....i think it's better to get something ASAP, just so you dont' have to worry. Our apartment (right near the school) is $835/month for a two bedroom place. I don't think it's too incredibly expensive...at least i hope not for all of our sakes. 😉

yeah, i know i should get on it - i'm thinking i may try to fly out there the weekend of the 14th and do my entrance interview thing on the 16th. thanks for the number to the management company, tubs - i'll give them a call. i've tried calling some of the places on the drexel housing sight but so far #1 never called me back, #2 was a wrong number (i think it was a church or something because the woman on the other end answered the phone by saying "praise the lord"!), and #3 was already taken. i'll keep trying, but i started to think i may need a back up method to find a place. 😉

anyway, $835 for 2br sounds great - i hope i can find something like that!!

buca...

since ur in cali.....you can do the interview on the phone....so you can save some money if you want. Just an idea; it may be convenient to be able to go out there and stuff so you can actually check places out......but just so you know, charlwin is supposed to be really nice...so consider living there!

tubs, you're defintely helping me to destress a little here! 🙂

OOOH! You _DID_ take that apt that I was going to take!!!

+pissed+ +pissed+ +pissed+

That was a GREAT deal. Too bad I was procrastinating with exams et al...oh well, I'm living in Carleton park across from school anyway...

Re: Telephone interview. If I had known that I would have saved 400$!!! Oh well. I _did_ do some apt shopping that day anyway, but if I had known what the 'financial interview' consisted of, I would DEFINTELY have done it by phone, since I'm from San Diego.

congratulations, lilnix!! :hardy:

thanks lola, are you back in the country now?

ucbdancn00, i've done small group learning and the big lecture thing, so don't know which works best for me. i might give PIL a try since i can't jump into it later but i can leave it if i want.

i'm from the bronx and my sn for aim is lilswtnik, looking forward to meeting my classmates!

Hey guys...I did the Drexel Post-Bac(IMS) for a year and got into Drexel Med. With regards to PIL, its great if you don't need structure etc. but I know, personally, that I do.
Anyways, the IFM curriculum is fantastic so if anyone has any questions about it I most likely can answer them. PM me.

hey guys,
I just got accepted to drexel last week and I cant wait to go. Im going on saturday apartment house hunting. I just hope I can afford to do all this. well cant wait to meet you guys in august.

hey antgod!! congratulations, i'm so glad you finally got accepted, i just found out this week myself. the waiting around was killing me...i'm glad we're gonna be classmates. i'll probably head out to philly soon myself😀

Yay! Congrats to everyone who's been accepted! I'm excited to see that my future classmates are all such cool people. When is everyone planning on moving? I think I'll probably arrive somewhere around August 24-25.

Congratulations again!!
🙂

hi where in ny are you from. Are you a guy or girl?
Where are you gonna live?

Is anyone considering living in center city? I am thinking about living in the old city area...however, I am not sure how bad the commute would be. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I guess it would be foolish to live in Center City? Anyone doing it?

oops 😳 I meant July. 🙂

It's been a long month.

I've got lots of questions...

1.) Is anyone else from CA, on the waitlist somewhere else and not finding an apt or buying airplane tix till the absolute last minute?? What are you guys doing? Giving up hope or asking your waitlist school to let you know of a decision?

I am still waiting on Drew/UCLA because as of Friday, there are still two spots open! There's a good chance that one of them could be for me, right??

2.) Does anyone FEMALE still need a roommate? Would you consider getting this apt with me even though I am not absolutely sure about goign to Drexel? I will be sure by the end of this week (around 7/25).

I just saw a post on the Drexel housing that there's a 2bdr available at the Charlwin. If I don't get off the waitlist, I'd totally want to live there because it's so close to campus adn *someone* who's gonna live in that building promised to throw lots of parties at his place.

3.) Is it true that the wireless internet extends to the Charlwin?

4.) Are those of you taking their cars to school fine with parking on the streets all year long? Do you guys know which apt buildings offer covered garage parking?

Thanks for all your help.

k, i'll try to answer most of your questions....although some don't apply to me :-D

1)wireless doesn't extend to charlwin...the wireless is limited to like 10 steps away from the campus...it's pretty coo though. So even if you live there you would theoretically have to get DSL or a cable modem.

2)Charlwin has garage parking for I believe $60/month...you can also get a sticker that lets you park in the back, but it's not a covered area.

3) I'm the one that "promised" to throw parties at my place...my room mate seems pretty game too. hopefully it'll all work out :-D

hmmm i think that's it. holla if you have any other questions.....i'm actually at the school right now and if you want you can IM me @ ucbdancn007

i'll be in philly tomorrow (i guess i should say today-it's past midnight). i've been out of the country so i'm finally gonna have my financial entrance interview and get an apt. i'll see everyone soon!

I'll be arriving on monday night - anybody who wants to get together - PM me! 🙂

tubs - that means you

Hello everyone!

I have been dying to respond to people's posts for the past months, but I found out why I couldn't access SDN to reply-- Drexel blocks incoming mail from SDN!

Oh yeah, for those of you who I haven't spoken to (due to me not having access for 6 months- it's sooo nice to be back on this!) I'm Mylaina and a MS-II (PIL) at Drexel. YAY! 🙂

Three quick comments--
1. PIL is not as "unstructured" as I've seen written-- we have lectures that are relevant to the cases and that's really what we're tested on. The cool thing about PIL is that we have the chance to look up stuff on our own that your group finds relevant and interesting...
2. Cingular cell service is pretty good at the school
3. Anyone moving into Park Heights apartments? That's where I live-- if you put me down as a reference (i.e. when you move in- just say you forgot to when you applied) I get a pretty sweet discount on rent that I would split with you. ;-) (basically $100 each-- just let me know if you want to do this so I can make sure I get it) What can I say, I'm a poor student in need of money! (plus, most of you probably will be too in a month or so!)

I'll be working the PIL orientation, so for those of you in PIL, come say hi! (PM me with questions!)
Mylaina

They start interviewing pretty early-- August or September... My friend interviewed the first week, but I can't remember when exactly that was! Good luck!
