Can anyone tell me what the max amount we can take out in Grad PLUS loans?

i was told that if you've applied for max stafford loans, you'll get them, and that leaves $24,527 (65,249 - 40,722 in staffords) to ask for in gradplus IF you're not living with parents. hope that helps.

EDIT: I got rid of those vague ballpark figures and replaced it with the real ones 🙂

$16,687 for those living with parents

$24,527 for those living without

I know that this was probably posted before, but if we have received the full amount of stafford loans do we have to pay the tuition bill by July 1st or is that being paid for us?

I got another bill recently saying the first half of tuition is due July 1st but I've received the full loans. I thought the loans pay the bills automatically.

Ignore the bill. Make sure it says how much financial aid you expect to have and if that covers tuition, then ignore the bill.

Thank you guys so much...you've been a big help!!

hey, guys. the bill was saying that if we didnt pay by a certain date then we would get some 12% interest on the fee which is about an extra 2,000. does anybody know if the stafford loans will be given to school by then???

Immunization forms due July 15.

Loan disbursement is Aug 22nd. So far the only thing the Bursar and the Fin Aid offices have told me (when i've called to ask them about paying by Aug 1st or getting a late charge) is just ignore the bill, the loans havent been all processed yet so whatever amount they are charging you, you dont have to pay it yet. also the health insurance hasnt even been charged to our bill yet like they say it will.

so basically if you know you are going to be getting enough loans to cover all the charges, then don't worry about it, in the end everything should all even out.

question:
i have to buy plane tickets to fly back to the bay area for labor day weekend for a wedding....anyone have the schedule yet so that i can know when i can leave so as not to miss something important?

My friend's Dad just handed me an article that he cut out of a magazine a few months ago but it's an interview with the Dean of NYCOM, Dr. Barbara Ross-Lee, and it turns out she is Diana Ross's sister! How awesome is that? I hope we get to meet her! Maybe she could sing at our graduation 😀

Dont count on it...she doesnt like to bring attention to the relationship. And also, she is no longer the Dean of NYCOM.

Say what? since when?

Look at the schedule for Orientation. On Tuesday it says that we will be meeting with Dr. Scandalis, Dean. It also doesnt mention her at all during orientation week.

on the website dr. ross-lee is still listed as dean of the school. Dr. Scandalis is an assistant dean.

anybody else having problems with webboard access?

But are we still going to get charge the 12% for paying late, b/c if thats the case then the school is def. screwing us over

yep, same deal here, it just hangs at the access page

I highly doubt they are doing that? That'd be highly unethical and would piss all of us off

read the class of 2009 thread and the issue of bills in the summer came up and it was posted that it should be ignored. This is the same case this year. If you are skeptical please call the admissions office

The DPC committee is meeting right now (circa 4pm EST) 🙂
Ms. Salvesen (sp?) said we should hear by next week, hopefully

ugh...now i'm all nervous!

Hi future colleagues,

My roommates and I are moving out of a really nice 3BR/2.5BA in Glen Cove, about 7-10 minutes away from school. The house is 3 stories high. We have hardwood floors, marble top kitchen, washer and dryer inside the house, a garage, and storage space. It's about 2 blocks away from downtown Glen Cove. My roommates and I loved every minute of living here, except that now we are moving to be closer to our rotation sites.

If you are interested, please give Michele a call at (415) 710-9801 ASAP. This place is available IMMEDIATELY. Thanks! 🙂

Congrats to all the Medprep 2006 class who will be joining the class of 2010...should be fun!

Anyone else get a letter for the DPC program yet??

Hey Lisa,
For what it's worth, my letter was dated 6/30. However, the postal stamp on the envelope itself said 6/29 from Garden City. I live in Burlington County, NJ.

Does anyone know where we get those sweet window stickers that say "New York College of Osteopathic Medicine" that you put on your back windshield? I went to the NYIT bookstore about 4 weeks ago and the girl said that they don't sell them, they must come directly from NYCOM. I realllllllly realllllly want one! 😀

As far as I can remember, the NYCOM stickers were sold at the NYIT bookstore (next to the NYIT stickers). Check back when it gets closer to school - maybe they will have them then.

I 2nd that.. congrats guys!!! Hey Chris.. how's your summer going?? Can't wait to see everyone August! 😀

Any idea what happened?

Can anyone tell the differences on our orientation handbook when they update it? They've updated it about 5 times now and I still see no change from the first copy!!

3BR, 2 BA, Large LR, Large DR, Large Kitchen, W/D hookup, 2nd floor of 2 family house on dead end street in secluded neighborhood in glen cove. Located on a wonderful cul de sac, great area. Walking distance to Sea Cliff LIRR station. Please contact Nirav if you're interested. Very nice Landlords. [email protected]

This is a great place and will go fast. I have a pic of the place but it's too large to attach, so email me if you want to see it - [email protected]

From my brief encounter with her over the summer... she said that she would be taking on the role of Vice President this yr b/c for too many years now she has been doing both jobs and "being two people for one salary was no longer cool"... which is certainly understandable. 🙂

No idea. Dr. Scandalis seems like a great guy from the short talk I had with him.

I printed out 2 documents so far and they are about the same. It's a bit confusing. Unfortunately they deleted the previous file and replaced it with the new one. I'm sure we will get everything again in orientation.

document 1:
Health Insurance
orientation schedule
BLS info
laptop info
Health services info
campus security
parking application
Life insurance info

document 2:
orientation schedule
Doctor Patient relationship document with equipment requirements
BLS info
laptop info
Health services info
campus security
parking application
Life insurance info

i was wondering for your classes how much time other nycom students spent using the textbooks versus watching the lectures online, which do you think is more effective?

pretty much, can i spend the majority of the time on the lectures and less on the textbooks (but i'd still spend some time on the texts)?

ok, so i'm just checking something here. i've done the following:

* sent transcripts
* gotten stafford and grad plus loans lined up/sent forms to NYCOM fin aid

i'm getting my immunizations and am going to send that form this week.

anything else currently due? i know there's:

* parking form
* health insurance

but when are those due? and when do we register?

bahhh!! stress! but i'm flying out tuesday to come get an apartment. maybe having that set will help with the up in the air feeling. or only make it worse. ugh.
