A new application cycle is approaching- time to dust off those CVs, triple-check those personal statements, and brace ourselves for the ride. Best of luck to everyone... may your Wi-Fi be strong, your emails be swift, and your letters be glowing.

For those having trouble writing your personal statements, think of something you are passionate about and relate that to your statement. When you read tons of statements, it's the ones that are different that stand out to me. As an example, one person loved baking and compared that to endo (the precise measuring etc..). Another example, lets say you love to play chess, starting your statement out with "Checkmate!" and relating the two would be interesting to me as well. Saying how you treated someone's pain or had past trauma and experienced a RCT is very common.

In conclusion: intro paragraph (with some interesting facet), why endo second paragraph, why you would make a good resident and conclusion for third. Doesn't need to be that long.

I was thinking of applying to both Endo this cycle as well as perio in the 2025-2026 cycle. Does anyone have any advice how to deal with LORs considering that through ADEA PASS theres no option to have seperate recommendations for different applications?

Thanks

Might be tricky. I have heard, it's not a good idea to apply in multiple specialities at the same time.
Can you create two different PASS ID's and then work out something ?

Please be cognizant of any changes to requirements before applying. I know of a school that requires the ADAT now that never did in the past and would hate for you guys to waste your money applying to a program if you don't have all the boxes checked. Check here (in case you didn't know where to look or simply reach out to the program directly):

How are you preparing for the exam? I’ve been out 8 years …!!!

I made a post asking this question...no one has answered. Been 2 weeks.
Studying for this exam is similar to studying for NBDE & DAT. Learn what's on the exam, figure out the high yield resources (ADAT Knockout), take practice exams, and develop a regular study schedule. I'd say the the most important thing to do is actually figure out what question topics are high yield and learn from there. There's also been previous post from old threads that comprehensively reviews how applicants have studied.

That's the thing, aside from ADAT KO there's not much else. And those threads are all from 2019, 2023.

I mean, is there anything else you specifically want to look for? Candidates seem to use that source to learn what to study for from NBDE books. It's by nature a broad based exam. I'm not sure how much the ADAT would change from 2023 to 2025.

Sure, but those books are very broad, and as you said, there are high yield topics to study. I have no way to find out what those topics are. I have Mosby's for NBDE II and FA for NBDE I, and I'm using the Mental Dental Videos and ADAT KO...

Programs that state they require ADAT:
Columbia, UCLA, Alabama, Detroit Mercy, Chicago, Minnesota, Pitt, Rutgers, NYU, Case Western

I'll be at AAE too if anyone wants to meet. If there is a Whatsapp group I would like to join, DM me!

I'll be at the AAE as well and would also like to join the WhatsApp group if there is one!

The WhatsApp group is active and open to anyone that is coming to AAE / wants to join. I tried my best to add anyone that has messaged, but DM me again if I missed you.

Does NY schools consider your application if you don't have GPR ?
Can anyone guide or refer to a source

what do you think is a good score? Does 570 work or you recommend higher to be competitive? of course thats just a way of assessing applicants and wont guarantee your acceptance, just wanted to see you suggest retaking, or not including ADAT 570 in my application as it may backfire or not.

I took the test in 2019 and scored 550 (don't recommend taking it 5 years out). No one ever said that was a bad score. 570 is a good score. I know folks who were accepted with scores in the 4s. It is completely situational with each program. I used to think it was a "box to check," but now I would strive for every edge you can get. I would probably apply and only retake if you receive feedback, especially about it. Hope that helps!

Can our submitted 2x2 photos have a background in them? E.g. mine was taken with a background of our moss wall in our clinic.

For those of you who attended AAE Boston as potential applicants, curious to hear how your experience was in terms of meeting program directors/residents? I heard this year's meeting had the most dental students ever (more than 600 students) in attendance! I used to recommend potential applicants to attend the AAE meeting as an avenue to talk with directors/residents but this may not be the best strategy anymore if this trend continues.

I attended last year and this year. Didn't apply last year so I wasn't going around shaking hands with directors and residents, just went for the lectures and to put it on my resume. This year though I had to do that per everyone's advice... but the thing is, unless you have previous connections with directors or have someone to introduce you, it's just really awkward and uncomfortable for both parties. it feels like you're more a nuisance than anything else even if you're just saying hello, because everyone knows why you're there and the directors and residents get hounded by applicants asking the same things day after day. the only directors/residents I had pleasant, genuine interactions with were those that I had previously met or corresponded with. bottom line, too many applicants attend now, and directors/residents really don't want to entertain random strangers all day long. it may be the case that you will do more harm than good to your application by attending these things going forward simply due to being grouped in with the herd of hundreds of desperate strangers. that's how it felt to me anyway. also I heard it was over 900 students that attended? regardless the edge has been lost. great conference besides all that however, learned a lot and had a good time with friends.

Are the dental students counted separately from practicing dentists who are applying? Because that's a lot of dental students potentially applying! There were so many people everywhere, I assumed most were practicing endodontists, residents, or dentists.

Anecdotal, but at the alumni receptions at least one third of the badges said student

The 600-900 number that is floating around is not just dental student. Its dental student + non endodontists/resident/endo related

The resident badges also said student. So it's hard to tell if it's a dental student or resident unless the resident added the resident sticker on their badge which most didn't.

______

PS. Anyone wanting to apply to OSU. App is open. Deadline May 22

Yeah, I was about to say, it is too surprising to think 600-900 dentals students are interested in endo AND attending AAE when most programs are only receiving ~300 applications. Most of the student badges I saw were residents. The vast majority of people I met were practicing endo/dentists or residents. Only a minor # of dental students. If you are a dental student going to AAE, more power to you.

Do the ADAT scores expire after a certain amount of years? Or you can use 3 year old scores to reapply with?

How long is ADAT scores taking currently?
