So I've been complete MD for a month and DO for like 2 weeks but still...I wish i could see some action. Training for my scribe job is making me really feel excited about medicine.
I've been complete most places since mid-late August...i'm still waiting from 99% of my schools to get back to me...it's better than an R, though!

I never realized how good a utility cart would be at organizing my life.

So I was perusing my username on Google... Typical things you know. And I happened to find this gem of a thread titled: "Sunbodi forgive me" that was made on October 4th. I couldn't click on it because it was deleted but it's still cached on Google. Somebody has to fess up. Who made this? And what were the contents of the thread?

To see the indexed version of the link you look at the cached view (using the down arrow). Here is the link. Unfortunately, the poster (google12) seems to potentially totally have edited their comment to indicdate desire to delete thread. Memelord was the only responder but didn't quote the original post.

Random question: When did you guys start drinking caffeine? I was super afraid of caffeine in HS ( was afraid it would become an unbreakable habit) , and because a lot of my friends didn't drink coffee I didn't either ( lol). I wonder why I used to do that? It just caused my unnecessary angst.

I don’t. I used to drink tea, but I haven’t had that in almost 2 years.

Wow. That's pretty neat- even when you had to stay up all night in the military? It's more that I really needed caffeine in HS with getting up so early, but I was like "Noo its bad" for like...no reason? Weird.

I still don't drink coffee. Drink a lot of caffeinated soda though, since HS

If you drink a lot of water it helps you stay up.

Also, it is very easy to stay up for 2 days+ when you're incredibly busy. You'll be catching your mistakes indicating you're tired before you feel tired if it is intense enough. Aka I tried to swipe a rock thinking I was unlocking my phone once.

Quitting caffeine is great by the way. I hate relying on something to feel normal and if you don't drink it daily it works when you actually do. Stayed up much later than I should have this week and having coffee the next day actually was useful because I havent had it in months.

I don't drink coffee (hate the taste!) and stopped drinking soda after freshman year (makes me feel bloated). So I guess I don't get any caffeine

There's always tea? I always thought of coffee/tea as main caffiene sources and not soda- too much sugar and too little actual caffiene to get enough from like a singel can.

For someone who isn’t dependent on caffeine, that little bit is enough. I was exhausted one night during our FTX after like 5 18-19 hour days in a row. I drank one can of root beer (Barq’s, which has 22mg of caffeine), and I got enough of a pep to keep me functioning until we could go to bed.

It's still so much sugar though- and even when I was very stringent with caffeine ( or was a child who only ever had soda) soda still didn't really produce a caffeine high- more of a sugar high. IDK I'm more referring to some of my peers chugging like 3 Mountain Dew cans for caffeine , getting like 1000 grams of sugar when I cup of black tea with sugar and milk would have done the trick.

I mean it has a lot of sugar--45g. A teaspoon of sugar is about 4g. That can add up if you drink a lot of coffee with sugar in it, but it's still better than a soda if you only drink a cup or two. The difference is, I drink a soda maybe once every 5-6 months. If you drink coffee or black tea with 1 teaspoon of sugar every day, you're getting 720g of sugar over that six months.

If you're getting 1000g of sugar from Mt Dew (which has 46.5g per 12-oz can), that means you're drinking over 20 cans.

Again, referring to my peers who have soda everyday/very regularly for caffeine, not you. And yes the 1000 grams was an exaggeration

Peeps aside from caffeine (of which I partake in 1-2 cups of black coffee per day...I live in Seattle), any other suggestions for prepping for a call-back interview at a (my number one) school that has a 30-minute 3-person panel interview? Questions appear to range from diversity/underserved to rural medicine to healthcare policy to me to you to cancer drugs and their targets to Nobel Prize winners of the last x years. Thanks for your input, even if it is just more caffeine.

Full disclosure: mostly just looking for love. 10/10 will love back.

Ugh, feel like I un-socialed the social thread. Sorry y'all back to your regularly scheduled caffeine (um is anyone besides me imbibing a delicious downer instead of an upper right now? Oh maybe that's why you're not responding just now...)

Social anxiety things:
Wants to swing by one prof's office to ask them about something relevant-
*Can overhear that another prof is in there just chatting with them casually*
Me: *Slinks away* too shy. Can not do.

Have you ever thought about taking medication for your anxiety? Not being able to knock on a door because there is someone else in the room is definitely not a normal baseline.

And I don’t say that to be snarky or rude. I don’t have social anxiety and never really did, but I did have some pretty awful anxiety 2/2 some stuff that I experienced in the operational setting in the Navy, and when I finally went on medication for it, it was like night and day.

I used to be on meds. I stopped b/c of the side effects, and my social anxiety is more based on childhood issues ( I guess I would benefit from a psychologist) , but I actually think it's my thinking and not that meds will help as much.
U right tho. I keep telling myself I'll book a therapist appointment with health services and I never do. What I try to do is slowly putting myself in situations that are hard for me ( Been doing that a lot lately) and am slowly coming out of my shell. IN this case, I waited like a minute and the second prof left, so it just wasn't relevant here.

I won’t get into it, but it was not something done lightly. We don’t just ban people for no reason, especially not people who do contribute to the forum.
While I appreciate that you have to be judicious, both in who you ban and what you share with the community, you must realize this is only going to make us more curious.

I just realized, between being a father, in med school,, and doing service on the side, how the hell do you have time for modding?!? Do you just adopt the 4 hrs of a sleep a night lifestyle?

Ha, no. I just fit it in when I can. I'm a lot less active than I used to be.

Late to it but...same. Always been an espresso person, thing is, it doesn't keep me up, like at all. Like, totally caffeine non-responder. I have no issues or withdraw going without caffeine and even if I go a week without a coffee and then have one, won't do a thing for me.
