*~*~*~*Official TMDSAS Questions Thread 2012-2013*~*~*~*

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got my first confirmation email three days after transmission and my first interview invite ten days after that

Does anyone know around what month is the last month that texas schools send out interview invites? Thanks!

Probably late December since some schools appear to be interviewing into January. But most will probably stop sending out invites by the end of November, maybe beginning of December in to fill a few empty slots.

Do you need to submit transcript from your Study Abroad school?
Or would a transcript from your alma mater suffice (showing Credit for courses)?

This is what TMDSAS told me:
Call your Study Abroad School. If they have a transcript for you, submit it. If they don't have record of you, the credit from your school will suffice.

Given that Texas schools are some of the few that require 14 hours of Bio, is it a huge deal if you put down the last 6 hours of upper-division Biology as "in progress", especially if you're a non-trad? Just curious how they look at that. I'd have to imagine it's pretty common, correct?

As long as you finish the pre-reqs before you matriculate you are fine.

In-Progress is fine. I had a friend who had his O-Chem Labs in progress and he was fine.

I know someone that had to finish one class the summer before med school started.

I'll be taking OChem in the Fall and Spring; would you guys recommend taking Genetics or Microbiology, or something else in the Fall, and maybe Biochem in the Spring, and putting off the OChem labs until after applications are done? That way I can get those heavier classes out of the way first, and get whatever help they may provide for the MCAT (along with showing I can do the work when I put in my apps), would be my reasoning. I guess I'm thinking that if I get to put off one or the other without having it be a red flag, might look better to put off the OChem labs and get the classwork done.

Thanks for the advice!

Without knowing your all your stats, it's hard to say. But I don't think genetics or microbiology will provide much, if any, help on the MCAT. I'd worry more about taking a balanced course load that you'll be able to do well in.

We definitely all get different topics on the MCAT because mine was a bit micro heavy!

I've skimmed the Overview Section of the TMDSAS and didn't really see where I could put down qualifications. A few months ago, I was re-certified in CPR and First Aid and would like include it. Does anyone know where I could put it down at? Maybe the volunteer section, or should I not list it even?

thanks

For people who submitted their application in mid-July of last year, how long did it take TMDSAS to process your application?

Do dual credit courses that I have take in high school count towards my AMCAS GPA?

Even if they have nothing to do with my major/give me no credit toward my major?

Applying to enter 2014 via TMDSAS for MD only and AMCAS for MD/PhD

Apparently my Texas residency is in question as I currently live and work in California. I attended high and middle school in Texas.
This is part of my message from TMDSAS:

"Since you have remained outside of Texas since completing your education in 2011 and in order to support your claim to a temporary absence, please send me a copy of your employment contract showing it is a temporary assignment and an end date was established at the time you accepted the position.
Please also send me copies of your Texas driver's license, voter registration card and 2012 federal income tax return showing you filed as a resident of Texas."

Has anyone else here had to deal with these issues?

I will see what I can do about having my employer demonstrate that my position is temporary until I enter medical school next year.

I still maintain my drivers license from my parents home county in Texas and continue to vote there as well (although I can't seem to find the registration card at the moment). Federal income tax return for 2012 does not have a "residency" filing field. From what I can tell there is a mailing address on page one of the 1040. Is that what they're asking for?

I will update if TMDSAS responds to my questions soon.
