and if you look at the over 35 MCAT, there are 26 people in the medical pool, but 107 people in the accepted pool.... how does that make sense?

I think it's a typo. If you sum all of the frequencies in "Medical Pool" gpa distribution column, you get 4648 which is the "Total" for the "Medical Pool". In order to get 4648 when you sum all of the frequencies in the "Medical Pool" MCAT distribution column, the number with over 35 MCAT would have to be 261, not 26.

I'm confident you'll do well gandalf!

I'm just hoping for the same thing. Just hard to imagine doing well after having zero interviews two cycles ago.

Does TMDSAS even post a validation/verification (of coursework/transcripts) status or date?

The Texas schools claim to take everything (not just grades) into account. If you have a stronger CV then two years ago, then you should get some more love. 🙂

Hello everyone,
I am a bit confused and unfamiliar with TMDSAS
my first question is when is late to submit this application?
second, is it okay if we reiterate stuff that we said in personal statement in optional essay or those spaces should be filled with completely new things?!

thank you in advance to take time and advice me on these question

1. Transmission after August is considered late.
2. Use new topics.

If I am listing one activity in two places, should I change the title/description to fit the category?

For instance, if I am classifying a certain activity as both "Leadership" and "Community Service," should I enter it into the Leadership category emphasizing my leadership role and into the Community Service category emphasizing how I contributed to serving the community?

Is it possible to add more schools/programs after submitting? I am almost positive the answer is yes, but I just want a confirmation.

Yes. You message them with which schools you want to add in.

Unless there's a high chance you might not submit to the other schools this year and reapply next year, why not just submit them all? After all, it is a flat fee to apply to all the schools.

I would much appreciate some input on this question. Thanks!

That's how I did it.

I finally decided to fill out my AMCAS. I opened up the coursework page and figured I would just copy it. I noticed Government 1 and 2 are both listed as "American Government" on my TMDSAS page.

Does the lack of 1 or 2 matter?

So what does the MCAT page look like once your scores are received? I requested a release from AAMC and on their website it says complete but I don't see anywhere on TMDAS that I can see my MCAT scores. The MCAT page still just has the date I took it.

It just shows they received it. No actual numbers like amcas

To check this you have to click on STATUS link on the right-hand-side bar. Once you get to that page, scroll all the way down and there should be an MCAT section. If the "Date Received" column is filled, then TMDSAS has received it.

If the 2301 and 2302 are there, it shouldn't matter.

i submitted june 27. about how long should i expect to wait to be verified...

It's supposed to be 261 instead of 26.

Yeah I submitted my app on 6/22/13 and it just got transmitted yesterday (7/10/13), so about a total of 18 days. I still haven't finished my secondaries...is this okay since schools are still in the process of getting my primary app? I plan on finishing them this weekend.

Does TMDAS differentiate between when they get your transcripts and when they actually go through them and check? I know it'll take some time before they read them but I am just wondering if they update something under the STATUS page when they receive them so I can stop worrying and know they have arrived.

Yeah, they do. On the status page, when you scroll all the way down, you'll see a box with info about your transcript, once they've received it/looked at it they'll update this box with the date and time at which it was fully looked over.

Crap, I think I misread your question. They only change the info about your transcript once it's been read. So there's no way you can tell if the transcripts have "arrived" at the facility.

Ok thank you. I guess I can try to call the registrars to see if they sent out my transcripts (if they keep a record somehow of sent transcripts). The only reason I'm looking into this is because I sent in *only* the TMDAS transcript request form and I'm afraid I should have also printed out the school specific request form just to be safe.

Can I submit if everything else is done but the official look over of my transcripts?

Do I have to select TX state schools as schools I am applying to in both AMCAS and TMDSAS? I am confused by why the TX state schools are present in the drop-down menu for school selection on AMCAS. I tried searching, but am tired so don't skewer me if this has been asked already...Thanks!

Baylor uses AMCAS, the other schools are in AMCAS in case you are applying for an MD/PhD or other than regular MD programs. So if youre just applying MD, you only need to apply through TMDSAS (except for baylor, which only uses AMCAS)

Thanks! Another question then- If I had multiple leadership positions within an organization, do I list them seperately on the TMDSAS? (ex: entry 1- VP of Org X, then separate entry 2 for Pres of Org X)

Yes I would as long as the leadership entailed uniquely different aspects from the other.

I recently submitted my TMDSAS application (July 9th) and although it has not yet been processed, I have just realized with some horror that I have misused the "Was this the last time the class was taken" option. I answered "No" to several seminars and music courses designed to be repeated, and it doesn't look like I can change them over to be "Yes" since the application was submitted. Is anyone familiar with how one would go about fixing this? Is it doomed to hold up my application in the problem pile? Or worse, is my application going to be sent out with about ten "repeated" courses on it? Just curious if anyone else has suffered anything similar.

Does anyone know what day of the week most interviews take place? I can't miss some of the classes I'm taking next semester, so I want to set my schedule around possible interview days.

I have 3 from TX so far and two are on a Friday and one is on a Thursday. I'm not sure if there are more days available, but I also think that San Antonio is on a Monday. It conflicts with my work schedule a lot, but I knew this could happen haha. There are worse problems to have.

Send a message to TMDSAS with everything that needs to be changed. It might cause less confusion when they come around to verifying your stuff.

Hey guys, I have a question regarding my planned activities section.

I completed my TMDSAS app on june 6th and at the time I didnt gauge correctly how many hours a week I had available. Long story short, I am finding out very quickly that I might not be able to work 20 hours a week and maintain my planned number of hours for my shadowing, volunteering and research activities. I will still do them but at a much lower range of hours per week.

Is this something that I should call TMDSAS and ask them to change or is it something that the Adcoms expect to fluctuate?

I think I might be acting a tad bit neurotic but oh well. I would just like a little bit of insight. W

Worst case scenario is that I leave it like that and explain later that I didn't gauge my time as accurate as I could have.

Thanks for any input

I have a question about Texas. I realize I am really late and OOS, but is it worth applying to Texas if a submit my application in the next day or two? I have strong family ties, though I don't know if this increases your chances as an OOS applicant. I have a 35 MCAT, 4.0, well over 100+ clinical hours, research in a genetics lab concerning the effect of stress of mutation rate in Drosophila, a few leadership positions in student organizations, some shadowing, and co-founder a a student research org. Again I realize it's late, but do I even have a shot at schools like UTSA and UT Houston at this point? I've already completed my AMCAS app a while ago, I've just been lazy about TMDSAS's optional essays. Thanks for the info.

you make it sound like they arent selective schools?

Both schools accepted about 10-13 people last year from an OOS pool.
Feel free to apply though. Your profile looks good and its not terribly late, but I dont know when you will be verified. Usually the time frame now is about 4-6 weeks.

my two cents: i applied as OOS with no ties to texas to UTSW and UTH in the middle of august with similar numbers to you. i never heard back from houston but was offered an interview by southwestern a few days later and ultimately was accepted on the first day. so in my eyes, you are not late at all. while the process is unpredictable i think it's definitely worth applying to schools that charge less than $20k/yr tuition (everyone OOS accepted to a texas school pays IS tuition minus $1000, at least at southwestern). IMO the upside far outweighs the $200 and few extra minutes you would spend on TMDSAS.

Hello, I have a question for you guys.

Would physical fitness be tacky for a extracurricular? I included under this umbrella:

Muay Thai / BJJ / Marathon running / Tough Mudders.

What about hour estimates? I estimated about 4 hours a week for 208 hours a year.

Thanks!

Go for it! It's something that occupied a good chunk of your time and gives a little more insight into who you are.

If it was merely "I like going to the gym" no but you have specific activities so I think it's a great activity to put. Good luck!

Howdy, everyone.

I am torn over what to do. I have a woeful GPA and scored a 30 twice on the MCAT. Basically, I need a 30+ to be competitive for MD's although I'm aiiight for DO's. I was wondering whether to list another retake (I'm retaking 9/7) on my TMDSAS because I'm afraid schools will keep delaying the review of my application if they see a future retake. Should I list the retake or just apply with what I have and see where the chips fall? Thanks so much.

Two things:

1) I realized that I didn't put planned coursework the way TMDSAS wants me to put it. Meaning, I didn't do it at all. Apparently you're supposed to have a placeholder course for each semester you will be taking classes, even if you don't know what courses you'll be taking. Anyone else do this? I hope it's not anything too serious...I had my app transmitted to schools a little over a month ago.

2) Do we have to update our coursework as soon as we get a grade? I took a course that ended beginning of July and got the grade back a few weeks ago. Do I have to send a transcript to TMDSAS right away or just sometime after the application closes?

Can you not change your planned coursework? I was under the impression you could.

Yes you should update TMDSAS with your new grade.

Alright, so I only just finished my application. I know, I know, I'm mad enough at myself. I'm just wondering if it's too late for me to apply this cycle. I *could* take a gap year if it seems necessary due to my late application, but what do y'all think? I have a fairly strong app otherwise. Super abridged version: 3.9 cGPA, 3.9 sGPA, 34 (10PS/13VR/11BS), 50+ hours of shadowing, 1.5 years research experience (no pubs). Am I too late?

For both questions, just write TMDSAS. They are very quick (a day turnaround) in their response time. I

Hi guys,

Does anyone know if schools review applications as soon as they are received, or do they wait for additional material that has yet to be included?

I say this because my application was submitted on May 9th, and most of my secondaries were complete by mid-June (I've received confirmation e-mails from the schools saying they've received my app). The only thing missing in my app was my 2nd MCAT score, which I have yet to receive (I took it on 8/2).

I have yet to receive either an interview invitation or a denial from any school (applied to all schools)

If my relatively early submitted application has been put on hold while my 2nd MCAT score comes in, that would be disappointing 😕
