***Official UPENN c/o 2015 Thread!!***

Hey~ I think we interviewed on the same day , I got accepted too~ I got in Case and Upenn, still thinking... how about you?

Yeah I'll be going if I don't get in to UCLA. I find out this week so Ill keep ya posted. By the way, I think that I sat next to you.....I was the one who was 15-20 minutes late!

Hey everyone, got my acceptance earlier in the month and decided to take the seat! anyone else do their interview on dec 3rd? dont know why they took so long to send my packet.

I found out I was waitlisted yesterday. Anyone else have info on this?

1/20. I called, but there is also mail coming. Anyone know how early or fast the waitlist can move?

You interviewed on the 20th of January and JUST found out?? And even yet by calling? Snail mail really takes that long huh...

But I thought they said at the interview their turn around time for decisions was going to be about 2- 2 1/2 weeks.

If you don't mind sharing how you asked or what exactly you said when you called?

Persian: When did you interview? I interviewed about 2.5 weeks ago and still haven't heard anything.

damn... and i thought i was going to hear back THIS week, hah... smh :lame:

Haha. Well hopefully you will. I actually had a deposit deadline some time ago, and notified them, but for one reason or another they were unable to get back to me before the date. Now I'm sort of waiting on the edge of my seat, although as more and more time goes by I feel like my chances of acceptance are getting slimmer and slimmer.

Well I got my top choice UCLA acceptance yesterday so I will not be putting down my deposit for Penn, which is due the 4th. This will certainly open up a seat for one or at least increase everyones chances. I loved it there and they were a close second behind UCLA to me. Good luck all!!!

Thanks for the update! Best of luck at UCLA.

My guess is that if you aren't accepted about 2 weeks after your interview you've been looked over and will ultimately end up on the waitlist. Well, that was my case anyway. I think someone who posted on here got in 2 months after. Does anyone know if Penn is/has sent rejections to people that have interviewed? That info isn't on pre-dents

I was wondering if the interviews at Penn were done. Does anybody know? Thanks.

About one month ago Ms. Cacas said interviews would probably go until late Feb. / early March. So I would guess they are, but don't know 100%.

BTW...just got an acceptance! I interviewed there just about 1 month ago. So, contrary to what others may say, if you still haven't heard back from an interview a while ago, there definitely is still a chance.

Congrats JDent! I had my interview 8 days after you so hopefully I hear back later this week or next week. Can you tell me how you found out? Mail? USPS?

Thanks a lot. I wish you the best. I found out by UPS...although I'm from Canada so I don't know if that makes a difference. I heard of others that found out by regular mail or phone...so it's not exactly consistent.

Just got wait listed at Penn yesterday as well. Wait listed at all three schools I applied to at this point. Not looking too good for me...

I'm waitlisted at Penn too. Hoping for the best. When are the final deposits due for Penn? I'm assuming that's when the waitlist will move the most.

april1st

Does anyone have good housing info around the dental building? T^T I've been looking up some housings and dorms...but nothing seems to catch my attention...

I was just accepted today! I'm so excited! I interviewed back on 12/10 and hadn't heard anything since this morning. See you all in the fall!

I gave up my seat the other day.

Good luck to everyone on the waitlist! 👍

Hi guys,
I am trying to decide between grad plus and private institutional loans. Does anyone know which one is better or does anyone have any preference? I know that the interest rate of the grad plus is really high (7.9%); I may be able to find another loan with a lower interest rate, but I am not that confident about choosing the right one. Any suggestion?

Hi, I'm a prospective dental student and I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice as to what dental schools look for besides high gpa/dat.

I assume they want you to shadow a dentist for at least a year, but what else in terms of extracurriculars?

Do they want dental research or will any type of medically related research suffice? (I've found it extremely difficult to find a research position in dentistry at my university). Do they also want dental volunteering?

I have a 3.8 gpa from a top 20 school in biochemistry with lots of ecs (cultural, community service, etc.) but since I've decided recently to go into dentistry I want to make sure I have the complete package.

Also, which companies do you recommend for studying for the DAT?

I think you should post this in the pre-dental forum or simply do a search in the forums for your questions...they are pretty common and have been answered before. I don't know why you are posting this in a Penn Dental acceptance thread....???😕

What is the average amount of ECs of accepted students?

What is the average amount of ECs of accepted students?

23.6

Seriously though..how are they going to measure the "average amount of ECs." Just find something you enjoy and be involved in it.

How many hours a week of ECs is considered average or sufficient. I would like to know if I should be more involved. Ie. I have some mentoring, work, research in the summers, normal fun sport ECs that take about 15hrs a week. Is that good enough so that my ECs arent a negative component of my app? I didn't include shadowing. People always say on here " I had good ECs, or a lot of ECs" So i thought it would be a fair question to ask how many hrs do most accepted students have

Hm well first off I think if you really want to know this info you should make your own thread about it...not hijack a Penn Dental class of 2015 thread lol huh?😕

Also, # of hours of extracurricular activites and stuff is just specific information that you just shouldn't be concerned with/criteria you shouldn't compare yourself against others because it is so ambiguous. In my opinion, for example, an applicant who played the violin professionally in a string quartet at about 10hrs a week would look more impressive than an applicant who was part of the video game club and spent 20hours a week (just a ridiculous comparison). SO hopefully you get what I am getting at. Extracurricular activities are things YOU want to do and are important to you; you shouldn't be concerned with comparing hours and such because it would be pretty useless to do that?

Sidenote- your ECs sound fine, unless it is something that can be considered controversial (like I dunno animal fur weaving lol?) I doubt ECs can ever be looked at as a negative component on your app.

P.S. on aadsas there is a different section for dental related shadowing.

Bump. Any new news? Did anyone get off the waitlist or decide to go elsewhere?

I got an e-mail about a week and a half ago asking if I was still interested in the program and just recieved and e-mail from Corky Yesterday saying that I was offered a spot in the class.

Hey guys, I'm a long time reader and follower of SDN and predents, though haven't really ever posted on these two sites. I'm going to be a bit more proactive in my second time around and was wondering if any of you could help me as I reapply to dental schools-specifically Penn my top choice.

My GPA is 3.95/3.91, Graduated with a B.S. Chem from Northwestern, and have a DAT of 22/22/19 with everything above 20 besides PAT and QR (18! :x). My EC's I feel are decent. Maybe theye didn't like the way I looked lol? I noticed Penn people generally are very attractive! I'm White and from Pittsburgh originally-US Citizen. That's pretty much all the info I want to put out there about myself. Also I submitted my application on June 30th last year. I tried calling them and just got the explanation that this year's class was quite exception yadda yadda. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not much more help people can give you than they have already given you in other threads. Work on your interview.

So I just sent in my apps to my out of state schools today . Im from Texas and had sent my Texas schools in fairly early ..Just a few weeks after our system opened up. But it took me a month to get my out of state stuff together and submitted today through the AADSAS for the out of state schools to about 7 schools. AM I TOO LATE?
