I imagine some will drop off the posted list as they decide to accept offers at other schools (OOS). Does anyone (welcoming committee?) know the M:F ratio and average age of the accepted students? Just curious, I enjoy numbers…

I believe you will be told all the demographics of your class during the Welcome Weekend by Dr. David Jones! I'm so excited so many of the class of 2010 decided to attend the FIRST EVER Welcome Weekend for accepted students at UT Medical School at San Antonio! Look forward to seeing everyone!

Hi! The gathering at Chacha's in an unofficial reception in which we will be serving appetizers only. There will also be happy hour drink specials for those interested. We have a very active committee to make sure we have adequate space....so please, don't worry! Just show up and plan to have fun! 🙂

Hi everyone!

This is my first post, so I don't even know if I'm doing this correctly! First of all, congrats to the new class! We are all excited to meet you all during Welcome Week. Med school is tough, but we all (...most of us) love every minute of it 😍

Anywho- I'm a first year and my husband and I just recently put in an offer on a home (and it looks like it might actually go through!) Unfortunately, we didn't expect how fast we would find a home that we have a lease w/ our apartment until May of 2007!!!

If anyone is looking for the cheapest apartments near the school, let me know. We live at Hunter's Glen, it's on 8715 Data Point (about 1.5 miles away from the lecture hall). It's a one bed room, about 745 square feet, new frig and stove. We're paying $462/mo. The complex is a little old (I think 30 years), but it has served us well! (We're committed to paying rent until May 07 until someone rents the apartment 🙁 )

If you have any questions about the complex, let me know! I can/will get prices for other units if you're curious.

It was so great meeting some of ya'll this weekend. We'll all get to know each other really well next year. It was too bad that we have exams in a week or even more people would have showed up. Be excited for orientation, though. It will be great!

If anyone is looking for an apartment, mine will be open starting at the beginning of June. So, it would be a sublease until middle July when my lease ends...then you could draw up your own contract. It's 1BR/1Bath at Broadstone Colonnade. I have Cingular as well and would also recommend it. I frequently can talk while going up and down elevators and most other places in the hospital and school. Also works if you cross the border into mexico b/c their phones are GSM; theres an international fee of course. Highly recommended.

I don't think that I could have had a better time than I just had at the welcome weekend. I now feel totally at ease about making the transition from undergrad to med school, I didn't find a single person that I didn't enjoy talking too, and they had Bud Light on tap! I'm just sad that I have four more months until I get to come back 🙁

The two bedroom about $880 and the one bedroom in about $680 and still has a large floor plan. Plus, they are always running specials so you might want to call them up and see what is the best they can do right now. Their number is 210-321-1700.

I second the Carlyle Place recommendation. Although I won't be living there next year (getting a house with friends), it's still a pretty good deal.

It is a very quiet, quaint and intimate complex (unlike Vintage or Promontory) and only a mile from school (you can walk it but I wouldn't recommend it in the Texas heat).

Quiet, if you don't mind helicopters and ambulences all night long.

You can walk, but you'll probably get tetanus or be hit by a car on the way.

But I live up medical, and I have to deal with the insane half mile of five o'clock traffic. Choose your battles.

I'll second the ambulances....you hear them all day long, especially if you live at the front of the complex as I do. Though I enjoyed living at Carlyle Place this year, I will be moving to Melograno, a brand-new apartment complex on Hamilton Wolfe, in June. The main reasons that I am moving include location and the fact that my apartment was not left in very good condition when I moved in (rust stains, tile needs re-grouting, dirty floors w/ tons of dents). However, I do have to say that I feel very safe at Carlyle Place. Besides the ambulances, the complex is pretty quiet and not a haven for party-goers like The Vintage or Promontory Pointe.

I have two friends in our class who are roommates there with a third girl. They all three plan on staying; they thought it was a nice deal. Maybe that helps. 🙂

Ok, so not that I own stock in the complex or something, but just a quick note to those who might be considering the Vintage: I have no idea why people say its a noisy place. My wife and I have lived here for a year and it is totally quiet and layed-back. The noise transmission between floors is almost undectable and except for the big shin-dig here last year that got a few of my classmates in trouble, I wouldn't exactly call it party central. I mean, the security guard tickets your car if its parked illegally for even 2 seconds. She certainly wouldn't let a loud party last too long. And the residents who live here are either professionals or professional students; and the rest are retired senior citizens who either sit on their porches or garden the plants they have lining the walkways. I would highly recommend the Vintage as a place to call home. Just my $0.02 🙂

Actually, that's good to hear....I liked the Vintage when I looked at it, but was fended off by gossip that it was a noisy place....I think that it might depend on where in the complex you live???

I suggest living in the library. Its quiet on the higher floors and free! You can even find pillows if you need 'em. 😀

Anyway, I'd like to second Carlyle Place. I like the fact that its a small complex with good management and close to school. I live a little more on the interior of the complex, so I rarely hear the crazy ambulances and Babcock street noise. I'm going to pretty much live here all 4 years (I just signed an 18 month extension). PM me with any questions as well....

I just got an apartment at Artisan on the Bluff. It's located about four miles north of campus right were Babcock and Dezevala merge. It is one of those "government subsidized" housing places. I would recommend that others look into them, but there are sooo many restrictions. It's brand new and really nice/cheap. The only reason I was elligible was because I am married to a non-student with two kids. We got a 2/2 w/ carport for $675/mth.

My question is: From the apartment's location, what is the longest time it will ever take me to get to school given traffic and the billion lights that line Babcock? Thanks -brandon

i live at babcock and prue, right up the road from there. for an 8am class, traffic sucks, so it takes about 20 min (+ walk/shuttle time if you are gonna be in lot 17 👎 ). for 9am classes, traffic isn't bad at all......it usually takes about 10 min.
