OFFICIAL YALE COUNTDOWN THREAD

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
TommyGunn: congrats on your Penn acceptance and good luck with Duke. You're going to have a lot to celebrate at this year's Campus Dance (he, he I share your alma mater). Just curious, would you choose Penn over Yale?

Guys,
I am thinking abt sending a letter of intent to Yale. My question is, can you do that for a school that hasnt made decisions yet or for schools that have waitlisted u only?

It is my understanding that you can send a letter of intent at any point during the admissions process. However, you might want to get others' opinions just to be certain.

I would personally find out until you find out what happened to you :)
If you got waitlisted it's best to send it off AFTER that fact so that you can do something to make your file "more appealing" This is what friends told me at least :)

Any updates on when decisions will be sent, or is it still "by the end of the month?"

Just read about your Duke acceptance, Coalboy, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Thanks locita! I wasn't really expecting it, expecially after the false accept last week.

So apparently it wasn't "false," just pre-mature! That's a hell-of-a way to start the week off, and hopefully you've got more coming...

Enjoy it!

thanks locita and coalboy...i just thought sending a letter of intent might make them in their decisions...i can however send an updated transcript yeah?

Akiks,

From all that I've gathered (both from my interview day and this thread), the decisions have probably already been made. For all you know, you might have already been accepted (booyah, think of that!) - but if you were waitlisted, then you would want to put together and send a strong package that will tip the scales in your favour when the time comes. That being said, go with your gut instincts. If you think a letter of intent and an updated transcript would help you now, then send it (just make certain that they accept these supplemental materials first).

One other thing for everybody waiting, I have a friend who's currently at Yale, who explained the waitlist system to me. He claims that there are 3 tiers: tier 1 = very likely admission, tier 2 = it's possible to gain admittance depending on where you are on the list, and tier 3 = most unlikely. I know this doesn't help any of us right now, but when the letters finally do come out...

Finally, has anybody else called recently? Can we get an SDN'er who didn't apply to Yale to call for us and get an update?

once again, g'luck to all.

Hi guys. I just called the office of admissions and they said all decisions will be mailed out by Thursday, March 28th. I also asked her if the decisions had been made yet and she said the committee was in the process of finalizing all decisions. Looks like we all have to wait a little longer!

Thanks for the news, meals

Hi Guys!

I got the phone call from Yale's MD/PhD program today. I got in.... Wooohooo!!... Now I don't think they're going to inform MD applicants also by phone but my guess is that MD/PhD decisions are not finalized until all the MD applications are also fully evaluated. So this means that you guys will probably hear very soon.

Congats, Sonic!

Wow that's fantastic! Congratulations Sonic!

has anyone called them to find out what the heck is going on?

I second that question. I admitt I do not have the constitution to call an admissions office and pester them. This doesn't keep me from wanted to hear about the conversations of those who do. :)

Looks like they are trying to just slip under the AAMC deadline of March 29.

Just in from Veronica:

Letters are being mailed out next thursday. Nothing will be sent via email or on the web. They're behind this year.

Happy Waiting!

Thanks Dr. Q. Did she by any chance say whether letters would be sent to our perm or "school" addresses?

So they are sending out acceptances and rejections on the 28th for sure?

Have they made decisions yet? What is going on with them?

Lizard,

From all reports, it appears that the 28th is it. There are far worse things in life, but I have to say, I think it's pretty ridiculous that it takes them this long to pull everything together. After all, they started interviewing at the beginning of October, at the latest.

Oh well. . . hang in there, everyone! I'm rooting for all of you!!!

(bump)

so the 28th it is....good luck, everyone! :)

(bump)

and

Does anybody know how acceptances and rejections were doled out last year in the mail? I'm leaving town Saturday and live on the west coast and wondering if I can expect to hear only if I'm accepted (i.e. priority mail), either way, or not at all. Actually, I'm just procrastinating from doing my homework and ruminating on this is a good passtime. :)

So, D-Day swiftly approaches? Good luck, everyone, I have my fingers crossed for all of you!

Anyone talked to them this week?

Who is going to call today to confirm that letters were sent?

That is soooo funny. It is so early and you are already asking if someone is going to call to make sure. It is ok. I am on the same boat. I have really anxious too. Good Luck everyone!

I called: Yes, all decisions will be in the mail by the end of the day.

Thanks to everyone who has called and posted before! I've really come to appreciate this website.

Good luck!

I'm definitely starting to get anxious! I'm from CT so I could hear today. I'll keep everyone informed of any news.

Does anyone know if they're going to post on the status page, or do we have to just wait for the letter? (sorry to be a slacker, this is probably answered earlier in the thread. but I just got done reading "top ten signs you're addicted to SDN" thread and my eyes hurt! <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" /> )

good luck all!
I live in TX so I will probably not hear until Monday or Teusday! :)

Is there a status page for Yale?! I didn't realize that we could have checked our status on line all this time!

Hopefully, Yale will not repeat Duke's mistakes and will leave the letters to reliable snail mail instead of disappointing applicants who are anxiously waiting.

[QB]••••From previous posts i dont think that we will be able to check online. All correspondence will be delivered by snail mail. check previous postings

 Any word yet, Dr. L?

No news today...they must have sent out the decisions at the end of the day, so I guess tom. will be the wait for the mailman all day type of day.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!The suspense!

Wow! Dr. L, your mailman must feel pretty special by this point in the process-I think my mailman feels my pain (his daughter is in med school now), although the mail doesn't come to my house until 4:00pm or so...what a drag!

Good luck manana.

We must keep this thread at the top, for the news is near...

I agree this post needs to be kept on the first page! This is big news coming... By the way, KDMD, it doesn't count if you post the same thing twice to add up posts. I'm going to tell the adminstrators never to make you a senior member because you're cheating!

PS&gt; Yes, I did go on SDN post-Palms!

I wanna know one thing and ONLY one thing...Is the acceptance envelope big or small? Cuz if I see that thin Yale envelope, I will hurl, cry, and melt into a blob of pathetic slime, ready to be disposed of.

That is so funny. Whether the envelope is thick or not? I thought it was a stupid question, so I didn't ask, but now I know that I am not the only one. When I get the mail everyday, I look at the big envelopes first- I think these are acceptances. Then when I see that none of them are from med schools, I pray that none of the little ones are. My heart stops beating until I search all of the little envelopes. I already got one of those, and it is not fun. :) Good Luck everyone. I think people in the vicinity of Yale should start receiving word by today (Friday).

Do we have any data on whether thin envelopes (rejections) travel faster in the mail than acceptances assuming both are mailed the same way (i.e. first class)?

I've found the best way to judge if it is good/bad news is to look/feel for a return envelope inside. At least if there is an envelope, you are most likely accepted or wait listed at the very least.

Dr. L--I do not cheat on my double-posts, and I am shocked and appalled that you think that I would...I just have to remember not to hit the back button bc it messes things up on my computer.

I hope while you were racking up your 38 posts your stomach felt better--maybe you were just worried about senior member status! :D

Bump

Everyone, please keep us posted if you hear anything from Yale today. Thanks!

It's almost mail time!

I wonder if there's mail in CT today since today is Good Friday...theres no mail here in TX!

Well, I just got my letter for Yale (and Harvard)--both rejections. (I interviewed at Yale, no such opportunity at Harvard...) I'm from CT so I figure I'm one of the first to know, so all of you from elsewhere in the country, sit tight for Monday's mail!
