Dr. L,

Sorry to hear the news :( . Did the Yale letter go to your permanent address or student address?

Oh well, I didn't want to be that close to home anyway. It was sent to my permanent address.

Suspence builds....Good Luck Everyone...
Lets bump this up!

Best of luck to all the Yale hopefuls! (From one who's desperately waiting for Harvard)

Well, the wait is over for me. I just got the letter- waitlist. It came to my permanent address, so I had my parents let me know. It really sucks to wait this long for bad news. Oh well, hopefully you all have better luck.

waitlist por moi also....4th waitlist <img border="0" alt="[Pity]" title="" src="graemlins/pity.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

methinks i am going to just go to law sch instead

I think waitlisted people still have a good shot. I heard that they pick just about their entering class(~100 people) the first time around. But if you see the US News and World Report, they pick overall ~250 people, which means about 150 people will come off the waitlist. So good luck to all the people waitlisted. I will be applying to med school next year. Yale and Columbia are my number one choice. Could anyone, even the ones waitlisted, post their stats or PM me? I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Has anyone been accepted, excluding the MDPhD candidates? Is the envelope thin or thick?

my feeling is that rejection and waiting list letters are smaller than first class acceptance envelopes, and hence they will arrive one or two days earlier than first class. It might be a blessing to survive this Saturday's mail. Good luck everyone.

I got the acceptance letter today... it's actually a small envelope, with just a couple pieces of paper and a reply envelope.
Good luck everyone!

CONGRATS!!!!!!!!

Major congratulations Wahoo   ! As well as to those on the waitlist.

Sir William, I was just curious what your letter said specifically regarding the "high waitlist," if you wouldn't mind sharing. From what a friend told me, being in the top tier of their waitlist foretells good things. Good luck to ya.

my waitlist says "applicants on the high waiting list wil be the first students accepted into the class as spaces become available. While we cannot konw exactly when this will take place, your chances of being admitted are excellent."

it says i should hear in April or May.

but i think i'm going to withdraw anyways. good luck all. should be hearing soon.

congratulations Wahoo!good job :D

Congrats to those who got in, and to those who will likely get in. As for me, got the big R today. These past few weeks have not been kind to me. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

hang in there incendiary. hopefully things will look up for you:) soon.

I still have not received mine. Today is Sunday, the Lord rests, and so does my mailman. Hopefully, I will get it on Monday. Congrats wahoo and all others for sticking it out.

Wow! I got in to Yale!

I'm still in shock and trying to breathe!
It was a triple whammy in my mailbox.
Letters from Harvard, Yale and Duke (didn't complete Duke application so I already knew though)...I opened the Harvard letter first (and it was ZERO love) so I was convinced Yale would follow suit.

Y'know how they say bad things happen in threes
(HMS-HST, HMS-NP and Duke), I guess I got lucky on the fourth!

Wow! Congratulations to fellow YMS acceptees and hang in there if the news isn't so good right now.

Congrats a*gal!! :D :D Which state are you in, to have got your responses so soon?

I hope stuff will start to trickle out to the midwest soon (now I want to break into the local post office and go through their unsorted mail hehe :D ) The next few days is gonna see an explosion of posts on these 2 threads... Best of luck to all those waiting! :)

  congrats a*gal and to all those who will receive the good news tomorrow!

For the rest of us in waitlist hell, do you think Yale will enlighten us as to our positions on the waitlist, or how many are on the list for that matter? While I would love to believe Snudgemuffin's post, I have a hard time believing that YSM will take an additional 150 off the waitlist, but then again, hope lies eternal.

Congrats again to all those with the good news.

I work with a current MD/PhD student at Yale. He says that Yale accepts 100 people initially, and fills the rest of the class (about 150 more people) from the waitlist as accepted people withdraw. So a high waitlist is almost like a delayed acceptance. I guess I'll find out where I stand tommorow. Anyone from the midwest hear anything yet?

G'luck everyone!

CONGRATS a*gal! Way to go!! :D

I received the waitlist letter, too. I'll be withdrawing though, so that's one less application in their pile! :D

Good luck to everyone still waiting, I've got my fingers crossed for you!

Came home from vacation to find the big ol' reject from Yale. :( Disappointing, definitely, but not devastating, considering my luck with other schools. Congratulations to all those accepted!

Thanks for the luv, everybuddy!
Much appreciated after all this craziness :)

@ Zulq, I am in Boston so that's why I've heard so soon.

@ MorningLight, where will you be going to instead?

Hi a*gal,

I'm going to be heading to Columbia (assuming, of course, that they don't rescind my acceptance, a nightmare that has haunted me repeatedly). <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

Will you be attending Yale? Again, my warmest congratulations to you. . . very impressive! And I'm sure you most definitely deserve it!

Best wishes to you in whatever you decide! :)

Thanks for the kind words of everybody! To answer your question Dignity, I'm not sure if I'll end up at Yale. It's not exactly my first choice of the places I've been accepted, but it's a lot closer to my family which is pretty important to me.

No one's willing to post their stats. :(
Could anyone with acceptance or waitlist enlighten me with their stats that I don't have a shot at Yale whatsoever? :D

akikis, diego, Sir William Osler, Wahoo, no_diginity_left and a*gal, before I bother you guys to no end, help me out. :D

By the way, congratulations to all those accepted!

SWO doesn't want to embarrass everyone with his top stats and EC's :)

He's the bomb..trust me...top 10 ain't ya boy! :)

<img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> :D :D

Hey you guys,
It has been forever since I posted on these boards, but I just wanted to give you guys some insight about Yale. I'm a first year here and was in the waitlist position this time last year. The deal is Yale usually excepts 150 initially and waits for 51 of those folks to give up their spots before they start on the waitlisters. And most students don't give up their spots until after second look weekend which is some time in late April. Also, last year there was a lot of movement right after the June 1st deadline all the way through the end of June.

The waitlist by the way is usually broken up into 3 tiers. For the last several years, everyone on the 1st tier has gotten an offer of admission and this usually is limited to a very small number of students. The second tier is also a good place to be, as a number of folks get offered spots from this position. Third tier...very slim to no chance. They usually have the tiers by the 1st or 2nd week of April and you can usually call and find out. Also, there is no set numbers in the waitlists...they are more like pools of applicants. Meaning that when a spot opens up, they look into the 1st tier pool for a worthy applicant. Get the idea?

Ok, I hope that helps and hang in there if you really want Yale. Last year, I was in the "top of second tier" according to Mr. Silverman and I got in late June. This place is great and I really wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Feel free to post questions and good luck :)

Thanks! Columbia is great and I'm sure you'll have a blast in NYC :D . Not sure about Yale yet. I'm still leaning towards an MD/PhD program at CWRU (I'm actually really confused) but if I don't MudPhud, I'll prolly be at Yale!

I wouldn't mind the choice between Case and Yale. :)

this thread is going to see some action today. lets hope for the best! im in NC and haven't heard yet--expecting today.

Oh my god!!! I just got a phone call from Mr. Silverman with the good news!!!! :)

April Fool's :D A gal can dream....

E'01-- You got me. I was about to cancel my experiment for today and run home to wait by the phone. I'm just a little tense right now

!•••••hi spacecadet 22,
Did you do anything to get off the waitlist e.g send in a letter of intent etc...is there anything we waitlisted folks can do to ensure acceptance?
Thanks for enlightening us

While I am waiting in suspense for the mail, I wanted to ask you all a question about Yale. Are you all concerned about the incredibly high number of Harvard and Yale grads at YSM? If I remember correctly, 34% of the class of 2005 came from one of these two schools. That seems a little too high to me.

akiks---Make sure that you let them know Yale is your number one choice. They also accept new letters of recommendation and any other sort of file update. Also, once they rank the waitlist...I would continue to call about every 2 weeks if you are in a good position. Nothing, however, will ensure acceptance.

bobcat---as for the Harvard-Yale breakdown...why does this concern you? A lot of the other top 10 schools are like this, too. I'm not from an Ivy and keep in mind that a large proportion of my class isn't either. One should expect that a large number of successful candidates should come from some of the most competitive programs.

Good luck all!

I received my acceptance letter today!! As for the previous post, I attended a small unknown college in PA. There is always hope.

CONGRATULATIONS to Zulq & Sarena!
It was worth the wait, right?

See you (maybe) in New Haven.

Hey, so if the waitlist letter doesn't say anything about a "high waitlist" what does that mean? Does anyone know?

I'll definitely be moving to New Haven! Hope to meet you during 2nd look weekend.
