Ohio State c/o 2022 applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm late to the party but I interview on Saturday. Congrats to everyone who was accepted already, wow! 🙂 I'm a bit nervous as I am currently a junior, so a year behind most applicants... hoping for a great interview!

Any more Ohio acceptances? Please share! 🙄

Got a phone call from OSU! I was not expecting to receive a phone call, but happy I did. I am IS and interviewed on January 5th.

Congratulations to alll that have been accepted. Good luck to all those that are still waiting to hear. Please, do not lose hope!

I feel like I should have interviewed sooner... All of these acceptances already and I haven't interviewed yet! :arghh:

Congrats to all who have been accepted. I'm starting to just barely worry.
As someone said earlier, most people don't get a phone call they get an email closer to Mid-February. That is what the Ohio State veterinary student that hosted me when I was there for my interview told me, too.

Oh I understand but it's just the pure math that's worrisome. For every one accepted student here there's probably 1-3 that don't use SDN. So there's a fair chance 25 percent of the seats are filled already. I just think too much haha.

Don’t overthink it. That’s wayyyy to much stress to put on yourself. If you want to think about pure math, remember that they outright rejected nearly 1000 people before interviews. This math is nothing compared to that and overrated anyway. The hard part is over. You worked hard, interviewed, now you just have to wait a little bit longer. I know it is really hard, but most people really should find out mid-feb.

Also keep in mind that like most schools, OSU over accepts given that many students will defer for their IS or for other reasons. I remembers getting an email sent to all accepted students and counting the number of email addresses it was sent to, and it was a decent amount more than the 162 seats....so I wouldn’t worry too much yet!

Don’t get too ahead of yourself. Seats aren’t technically “filled” until people put their deposits down and even people getting accepted while interviews are ongoing likely aren’t putting a deposit on a seat when they have other interviews to attend and other schools to hear back from. Plus, if memory serves me, they don’t send out the logistics e-mail about how to accept your seat right away (looking at my archived e-mails it came a week after I’d gotten accepted via phone call).

As far as the math goes, singhb09 is correct about the large overacceptance. In the past, OSU has accepted students at around 200% (i.e. twice as many people are accepted as there are seats in the class), mostly OOS students. IS students are historically underaccepted since it’s more likely for them to attend OSU as their IS.

Honestly, if you have interviewed, the odds are in your favor to get accepted or waitlisted.

So what happens if there is more people than there are spots?

It used to be that nobody knew what would happen, then the 2015 cycle rolled through.

If more people accept than there are spots, OSU will offer deferment to students. That’s exactly what happened to the class of 2020 when too many people wanted to attend. Some took the offer which included getting, basically, a year of free grad school tuition on OSU’s dime. The deferred students then ended up joining the class of 2021.

I'm confused. So some people are saying that a limited number of people get phone calls and the rest are sent in February. It sounds like other people are saying that they've already sent out over 162 invitations. Am I just mistaken or is there a disagreement here? I'm just trying to judge my odds here so I can prepare myself if need be. Thank you to the older students for helping us nervous wrecks.

You are mistaken. The comment with the 162 in it was referencing a previous cycle and how many acceptances over the number of class seats were sent out that year.

Though, for reference, that is the class size at OSU -162 seats.

They are most definitely not saying they have sent out 162 yet.

Does anyone know when we must have our fall transcripts sent to OSU? I think I saw somewhere that it wasn't until after acceptance, but I just wanted to check to be sure!

Was it in a mass email?

No it was a solo email. The email said they would send scholarship offers by February 12th though, so I imagine theres a window from now until then that theyll send out acceptances.

Does anyone know if they send the acceptances out in waves or if that was it this morning?

I hope they send out more today and dont make us wait until friday again.

Does anyone who goes to OSU now have any *insider* info about when they might be sending more acceptances out? - or the alternates/denies out? It's taking everything I have to not call them and plead for a timeline lol😛

I didn’t get mine until mid-February. I know it is hard to be patient (especially when other people are getting their acceptances) but do not give up hope! IMO it is still pretty early in the game

Best Wishes <3

Hey! I've been accepted to the OSU c/o 2022, actually, I interviewed on the 3rd, heard back on the 12th. I was wondering if anyone knows if OSU offers discounted pet care at the hospital for enrolled CVM students.

Hey! During my interview tour we asked our tour guide and he said they do but he didn’t know. So I asked a student on the panel and she told me they do but it’s not that great. She said some vets around the area actually give better discounts to students than the school does.

Last year at least, they sent out multiple waves of acceptances on Fridays, around 2:00 EST (in general, NOT always). Then the waitlists and denials went out last- I got my denial by email in mid-March if I'm remembering correctly... Hang in there!!
