Yes! OSU requires an iPad - they’ll let you know any specific requirements for it this summer.Hey guys! Somebody might have asked this question before, but first years are required to buy an iPad correct?
have you heard? No email. This doesn’t feel good.
I’m sorry! At least you heard, I’m still pending 🙁Yes, waitlisted #74 :/
No, I got it Thursday night but I work early mornings so I just was late to the game on posting. I’m sorry ☹️did you get the email today?
Yeah last year was a weird situation. They ended up over accepting OOS students (a lot more OOS students accepted the offer than they planned on - likely due to the decrease in OOS tuition) and the class was over-seated. They only pulled from the IS waitlist because the ratio of IS/OOS students was too skewed. My class was seated with 174 in the fall - there’s usually around 162.i was going through last year's forum...and saw that they only went down to #2 on OOS waitlist ...? 😭

Anyone have tips on good apartments? I was browsing last night and became somewhat discouraged by the prices
I found this link super helpful even though it was for last year's class! There's a recommended housing pdf at the bottom 🙂Anyone have tips on good apartments? I was browsing last night and became somewhat discouraged by the prices
Currently the first years are mostly online. We have clinical skills lab in person, but no anatomy lab. Classes meet once or twice a week online for synch sessions, but a lot of the coursework is asynchronous. Admin won’t make a decision for this fall until later - it all depends on what COVID looks like. But from our class meetings they’re leaning toward continuing this hybrid model.Any current students have any input on how classes/ labs are going with Covid? Any idea for what fall will look like for the program?
Columbus is awesome! Part time college town, part time big city. You get the perks of having a city with a lot to do with a small town community feel. There are tons of restaurants and breweries to go out to, fun coffee shops for studying, metro parks for hiking or exercising, sports games (OSU football, Columbus Blue Jackets) and so much more. You also have more rural areas about 20-25 minutes outside of Columbus. This allows our veterinary facilities to see large caseloads. We're pretty lucky to have our small animal hospital, large animal hospital and equine hospital all connected on our campus. Columbus is also smack dab in the middle of the state, making travel to other Ohio cities like Cincinnati or Cleveland not far. Tons of cool hiking and state parks outside of these cities too. Other cities like Chicago, Nashville or Pittsburgh aren't too far of a drive either 🙂 I'm originally from across the country and I've adjusted so well to Columbus, I love it here! It's a super welcoming city.Hey what’s it like living in Columbus, Ohio? I’m strongly considering it vs. my in-state which is Penn, both ranked equally great schools, but I’ve never been there! Any advice?
You can find one here 🙂Is there a virtual tour?
Actually that’s a hot topic right now 😅 sounds like the college is leaning toward no live dissection, but there’s been some push back so I’m not sure what’s going to happen.Do you think they are leaning towards not having cadaver labs at all (with/without COVID)?
thank you! I must've overlooked this beforeYou can find one here 🙂
Mine has changed to “active” - i also paid my deposit so that could have affected it.Those that have been accepted/rejected has your portal status changed or does it still say pending?
did yours change? and have you gotten an email with a status update yet? Those that have been accepted/rejected has your portal status changed or does it still say pending?
I have a friend at OSU that told me they are leaning towards no live dissectionActually that’s a hot topic right now 😅 sounds like the college is leaning toward no live dissection, but there’s been some push back so I’m not sure what’s going to happen.
I'm confused...so how is anatomy taught at OSU? Are there models to dissect, or is there no labs for anatomy, period?I have a friend at OSU that told me they are leaning towards no live dissection

Yeah we don’t have any dissections. We have an online “lab” but it’s honestly been just office hours or review of material. We received some dissection videos in the fall for canine anatomy, but none currently for large animal. In my personal opinion it’s been really challenging to learn 3D anatomy from mostly pictures and diagrams. I’m REALLY hoping they switch it back for future years.I have heard from the students I talked to that it’s an online lab so no in person labs/ dissections. Sounds like pretty much the program is working remote from those I’ve talked to, current students is this correct?
This is so disheartening to me. I'm seriously considering turning down my IS offer for another school in hopes that they do more in person work were I feel like I can really learn and understand.Yeah we don’t have any dissections. pre-COVID they did have models to dissect. My friend said now they are considering/voting on having the professors video the dissection and do it 100% online but they have not made a decisionI'm confused...so how is anatomy taught at OSU? I know, the most exciting part about vet school is hands on labs and experiences and it sucks to not have it due to covid, some other schools are still doing itThis is so disheartening to me. Same. Maybe it's me lacking perspectives, but I'm really having a hard time imagining learning anatomy without touching even a model. This is so disheartening to me. Yeah I'm really leaning towards Purdue or maybe even Cornell because they seem more dedicated to in person labs an instructions, even though I'll be further in debt...Same. If anyone wants to chat about what 1st year has been like with COVID (changes to the curriculum, classes/labs, etc) feel free to DM me!Right! It’s concerning for sure. Other than the anatomy lab being online and causing a lack in education, what other aspects are current students worried about with the way the program has choose to handle the pandemic and their teaching?

Same here, I’m between Mizzou and OSU and due to this alone I’m leaning towards Mizzou. Sad to say that since I’ve lived in Ohio my whole life and love tOSU, but I’m a hands on learner and disappointed that they would cut this from curriculum. This is so disheartening to me. I'm seriously considering turning down my IS offer for another school in hopes that they do more in person work were I feel like I can really learn and understand.

oh no... so it is true.... I thought OSU was still one of the schools that continues the lab and all thatI have heard from the students I talked to that it’s an online lab so no in person labs/ dissections. I am from Miami too!! How exiting!Hey everyone! I got my acceptance letter for OSU on Friday and I'm super excited to be moving to Columbus. I'm from Miami, Florida so this is going to be a huge change for me. Those of you that are from Ohio could you give me some insight into what life is like in Columbus. Also I was curious to know if getting a car is a necessity. My main concern is that I might need it to get groceries or to get to class on time (I know school/public transportation can sometimes run late), plus I have a 65 lb dog that I'm taking up with me and I wanted to know if I'll need a car to take her from place to place (especially in case of an emergency). Does the transportation there allow dogs, specifically the transportation provided by the school. Also if anyone is looking for a roommate please feel free to reach out to me (I'm a 25 yr old male - I'm pretty tidy and some of my hobbies include running, playing guitar and skating with my dog).
That makes 3 of us! Glad to know I won’t be the only one not used to actual cold weather lolHey everyone! I got my acceptance letter for OSU on Friday and I'm super excited to be moving to Columbus. Normally first years dissect a dog first semester and a horse(pony) second semester. Due to COVID they have it online. First years still have Clinical Skills labs in person now. I’m a current 3rd year and we have both Clinical Skills (some cadaver work) and our Small Animal Surgery course in person (with cadavers and starting our live surgeries in the upcoming weeks). I also had Parasitology lab in person this past semester. Did admin say what they were planning for anatomy? I would guess they don’t know yet for sure since COVID is always changing... I really hope they have it back in person for you guys.I have heard from the students I talked to that it’s an online lab so no in person labs/ dissections. On a different note - all of the vaccines we have to get 🥴😭! Is there usually enough time to get all of the series if needed? My mom was very anti-vax/ minimalist unfortunately and would even refuse to get us the flu shot 🙄

Do you happen to know when any decisions will be made regarding this? I'm more curious about the decision of bringing it back after COVID restrictions aren't as pressing and aren't part of the consideration.Normally first years dissect a dog first semester and a horse(pony) second semester. hey so if you've had the series, do you just send titers in? i had mine checked this past year for the bats, but do you think they'd want me to check again? or -- is that an admission question? i was initially vaccinated in december 2016 so i'm worried it's getting low, but it's not below the threshold yetFor rabies, when I was a first year you just had to have it done by the start of second semester
after paying for my deposit/acceptance the graduate program sent me an email about vaccines! University Vaccination Requirement : Student Health ServicesHey where were you able to find the list of vaccines that we need to get?
