Only Mildly Official Countdown to March Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Exactly. As someone else posted earlier, I've been trying so incredibly hard to form any sort of attachment to a couple of schools that don't announce in March...but yeah. I'm in the same fortunate position, where I just want to *know* what my future is in March....not August. 🙂

Word. It seems like January flew by, but OMG... February is just drrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaggggin along. I feel like I'm living Groundhog Day over and over and over (minus Bill Murray though). The first two weeks of March just cannot come fast enough. 🙁

I am also counting down to March - b/c I 😍 Guinness and cute Irish boys.. Dont get so down about rejection season. Keep in mind that March also includes St. Paddy's Day, so you have the option of drowning your med school woes in beer and whiskey. You'll know you didn't drink enough if you remember how you got home. 😀

Let's start a countdown to St. Patty's day, much more important than acceptance letters anyways . Just kidding, I am anxious as well, and want to make a decision already so I can make plans for the summer

St. Patty's countdown: T-minus 34 days and counting! Kara, not only are you from Maryland like me, but we also share a mututal love/obsession with guinness and Irish boys. I propose we set the date of the DC/MD/NoVa celebration to March 17th.

I'm going to be in Arizona for St. Patty's day, including baseball spring training, and my friend's bachelor party! Hopefully I'll know for sure about where I'll be going by then...or perhaps I'll just find a way to forget all my troubles. 🙂

I'm gong to search for that perfect green tie, just for you, Vandy. 😉

aw thanks! Kelly green would definitely be a great solid color! I already have my St. Patty's outfit picked out: Ireland futball jersey I got at the duty-free in Dublin trying to spend all my Euros before I got back home. :luck: Luck 'o the Irish to everyone until March! (even though I am 0% Irish, but that's ok)

0% Irish is more Irish than I am.
But hopefully them Irish eyes will smile upon me.

i feel the exact same way. one day soon we will wake up and it will be tomorrow!

ps: that is SO not punxsutawney or gobbler's knob in the movie. it makes me mad. but i guess they wanted it to look cute and quaint.

Hah...it's actually a city-wide holiday in Boston (no school, etc.), although technically it's for "Evacuation Day". How courteous of the British to retreat from Beantown on St. Patty's....

I did hear that from some Boston-area coworkers about their kids not having school. Unfortunately, I always had class on that day at BU, and we also have work on that day.

That is just how in New Orleans they get off for the whole week of Mardi Gras. But since this year St. Patty's is on a Saturday do you get that Friday off in anticipation of this great holiday?

I'm counting down to March for a completely different reason .... thats when I will be giving my resignation letter for my job 😀 I figure i'll give them 6-8 weeks notice and be out of there by the end of April. That way I will have several months to get my house ready for sale and to make moving arrangements for my family. This is friggin awesome! ..... now if only I could figure out what I will do for money in the meanwhile 😕

I'm also counting down to quit my job. I'm so excited, except for the money part.
But first I have to make sure I'm in somewhere! Come on phone call.....

Another countdown-to-quitter here! Ah I can't wait!

32 days till Penn results... That's the only one I'm still waiting on... If it's a waitlist and they make me wait longer I may actually go crazy...

I already submitted my resignation letter, and honestly, waiting has become more tiresome since. Yargh... I just want to know where I'm going to be heading come July/August.

Your headed to Funky Town baby! Yeh 😎

Do I get a pony too???

nice move.

my work knows i'm leaving, but since i don't know where/when exactly, i'm sticking it out until then.

Same here....and then it gets trickier since I'm working at a lab *at* one of my dream schools, and if I get in there I'd feel guilty about abandoning ship too early. 🙂 But man, that would be a really nice problem to have.

are you @ HMS?

Word... same problem here. I have no clue when I'm leaving, they just needed the paper to begin searching for my replacement.

It gets tricky when working at one of your potential schools. I'm already starting to feel a bit of pressure to do my PhD in our lab. 😱

One more week . . . and one more week + about a month until that fateful "you should expect to hear from us in the last week of march" :scared:

I'm counting down to June. No body else is counting down to June. Its a pretty cool month too, so I don't want it to feel left out. So, uh, ... yeh. 😳

Really? I'm counting down til April/May, when the SUNY schools finalize their wait lists. not nearly as cool as June, but I'll take it!

the worst part is knowing that most likely my columbia rejection is already in a stamped, addressed and sealed envelope, waiting to be sent to me next week. JUST TELL ME NOW! 😡

Thats awesome! I turned in my resignation letter last week. Just counting days to get out of here! Party time! 😀

word. I'm going to be so sad when I get that letter. 🙁 🙁

I'm with you. The Columbia rejection will definitely hurt. For what it's worth, good luck.

ugh, don't remind me. the thought of finding that thin envelope in my mailbox is making my stomach turn. blechhh...

the thin envelope from columbia came today. when i saw it, i sighed. wow, did they mail rejections that early?

it was from the Office of Diversity! why would they do that? don't they know we're expecting letters soon? and the funny thing is, the last paragraph says, "and [we] look forward to hearing from you..." NO, the other way around.

holy crap, i read your first paragraph, and my heart started racing.

then i kept reading. the scare you gave me was probably a minor version of what you thought when you opened your mailbox. it wasn't pleasant.:scared:

 That was cruel. Maybe they'll make it up to you by sending you a big envelope next week. It's only fair.

Thanks... and :luck: to everyone here waiting on Columbia.

I've already written them a letter of intent, so if they waitlist me I think I'll be more upset than if they just rejected me. What more could they possibly want from me? *sets hair on fire*

They mail decisions Friday March 2nd. Does that mean we should expect the envelope Monday?

Next weekend is going to suck. Come on columbia be my friend please please please!

Ugh... I know. Why couldn't they send them Wednesday or even Thursday???

I don't want to wait until Monday to see whether or not I've got one of these

sitting in my mailbox!!!! YARGH!

24-28 days until we hear from UPenn (week of March 19th). Here's hoping that since they've already made us wait this long that they at least do us a favor and get them out on the 19th rather than later in the week.

you know the southpark episode where cartman has to revert to freezing himself because he can't wait for wii to come out?

thats how i feel about penn. just reject me already. i feel like the bastard stepchild that has to share a bed with stepmother's 5 cats in the corner of the garage. i pretty much every day think of my interviews and try and pull any reads from them. i pretty much every day picture the penn adcom meeting and spending 2 min 30 sec on my file before throwing it in the trash. i could use a wii right about now.

Ha! Yeah...I work at one of the schools I'm waiting to hear from, and their HR department is constantly sending things like info on benefits....in official university envelopes. I've probably had 10 mini heart attacks this past year.

I had a nightmare yesterday about not getting a Harvard decision and then signing onto SDN and seeing that actually EVERYONE who had interviewed at Harvard had been accepted...but me. I have a feeling I'll be having a lot of bad dreams in the next couple of weeks...🙁

i have had a dream of not getting into penn. its more like a reality though.

no more reading about med schools or SDN right before bed.

Same here, but with replace Penn/Harvard with Columbia.

Why do they have to interview so many damn people for so few spots? A 25% chance? 25%?!!?!!!?!

Boo hoo... cry me a river. 😛 I've got to wait even longer for Penn... the MD/PhD committee makes their decisions on like Thursday but I've got to wait until March 19th because MD decisions take so long.

Nevermind, I'm two buildings over from Suite 100 Annex.... I can go all Spybreak in there one night and glimpse my fate before decisions are posted. MWAH HAHAHAHA

Edit: I'm not starting a new thread for this... we should all facebook one another. Some of us might be classmates. So it has been written... so shall it be done.

What are you guys basing those percentages on. One school I'm interviewing at accepts 25% (100 spots, 400 interviews). But, so many people reject their offer, so they really end up accepting around 200 people and chances jump to 50%.

Psyched to hear from Harvard and Yale, March can't come too fast for me!

Basically MSAR and/or USNews.
