Im also wondering if we can send transcripts before june 1st? Is there a place on pharmcas where i can print transcript request forms before enrollment opens in June? Thanks!

No, you should create your PharmCAS app first, then enter your colleges attended then print out the transcript request form from that page. It will have your PharmCAS ID number on it which is only generated by starting the PharmCAS app.
Does anyone know when is PharmCAS Application for Fall '10 enrollment available?
Does it matter if I create a new applicant now?
What's the rush?
The PharmCAS cycle begins June 1. If it will even let you create an app now, it would just get deleted on 6/1 and you would have to start over. But seriously, from June 1 to the first deadline is like four months. Right now all you really need to do is contact your references and make sure they're willing to recommend you, and get unofficial transcripts together so you can input all your grades. And schedule your PCAT, I guess. But for now just enjoy the summer.
It's good that you're trying to be on top of your game, but perhaps this can teach a good lesson in the importance of reading directions. Many people don't even have their application looked at because they failed to read/follow directions (ie. UCSF and where to send their application versus where to send the money). Why put yourself at such a disadvantage over such an easy thing like reading and following directions?
The most prep related thing you can do, I think, before PharmCAS opens is to ask for letters of recommendations and get started on your personal statement. The personal statement almost rarely changes (to my understanding), and it'd be good to work on that for a good time.

It will affect you cumulative GPA, but not the science GPA.does pharmcas calculate ESL grades, because i got Cs in my ESL classes.
Does it affect my chance?
thank you,
As if it will affect your chances, it depends if pharmacy schools is highly based on English classes, and from what I know, they are not.
However, on the essay portion of an interview, I believe they only give one to see if you can write coherent sentences.

does it affect my chance, when pharmacy schools consider my GPA, which one is higher priority?

In this case, your overall GPA and PCAT scores could very well be acceptable, but you will want to make sure that your reading and verbal PCAT scores are at least marginal. Plus, you should do your very best to get at least a 3 (scale 1-5) on the writing portion of the PCAT.
I have seen unfortunate cases where students are fully capable, but do poorly on the V/R and writing sections and aren't admitted for that. If you have questions, please email: [email protected]
I am planning on taking the PCAT (for the 2nd time) in August 2009. Once PharmCAS becomes available I would like to submit asap. Should I wait until my Aug PCAT scores are sent in? Do they update your application with the scores once the app is sent? Also, can you submit without all of your LOR's or is it better to wait for those to be complete as well? thx

Yes, they do update your file, so submit it asap. As for the LORs I'm not sure.
Hello,
I had called Pharmcas about this but I am still a bit confused.
I am worried about sending transcripts to Pharmcas because I am sending transcripts from several different colleges (took a variety of summer classes at different colleges) and this might slow down my application process a lot.
I was wondering if I send my transcripts to Pharmcas once I SUBMIT Pharmcas OR can I send my transcripts while working on my Pharmcas?
I am assuming if I am sending my transcripts before I am done with my Pharmcas, the Pharmcas people are not going to verify my self-reported grades until I actually OFFICIALLY submit it. But they can hold my transcripts there, right?
Am I on the right track? Thank you!

As soon as pharmcas opens you can send a transcript request form in and work through inputting yourself. It seemed to take my schools (3) between 2 weeks and a month and a week to actually send them.
=)
Go ahead and submit them and type in your grades. Usually if you type them in correctly, pharmcas doesn't do much from there. Which makes the process a lot faster.
Where do I list Dean's list? I thought it would be under Honors and Scholarships.
EXTRACURRICULAR
For instance, if you were on the deans list for more than one term, list that
distinction only once.
Or
HONORS AND SCHOLARSHIPS
Enter any special academic, service, or activity awards you have received in order of
importance to you. Also, where should volunteering in a hospital be listed? Under Extracurriculars or Work Experience?
WORK EXPERIENCE
E
nter any paid or volunteer work experience. List experiences in order of importance to you.
List each activity only once. Do not repeat any activities listed in the previous sections.
thanks in advance
.
I would list it under Honors and Scholarships, for sure.
Orgowise: I think the ONLY reasons to list any single thing from high school is if you are: a). applying for a 0-6 program, or b). it DIRECTLY relates to pharmacy (e.g. worked in a pharmacy all through high school, etc).

Do academic awards from high school count?
Only if you didn't go to college or if it's super special.

Hey, I had the same question about work experience. What I did was put it in the section that was most lacking 🙂. I put my pharmacy volunteer work in extracurriculars instead of work experience because I have a big job history but had less extracurriculars. I think you can do it how you want but I wouldn't use it for both sections. They are going to see it either way I'm not sure it matters that much. And good job getting a jump on pharmcas 👍
Extracurricular = anything you do with your time outside of your curriculum (school). This can include all of your volunteer work. It can also include things you do for fun - Such as a band or sports.
How will we know when the PharmCAS application is for the class trying to being accepted for the Fall 2010? The 1st of June is tomorrow and I know it opens at sometime in the first week of that month.
I thought I read somewhere on there that it opens up on June 3 this year. I could be wrong, though. I'll look again.
Edit: As of https://portal.pharmcas.org/applicants09/index.cgi it does indeed open on June 3.

Just a question - how are you able to access the Pharmcas application? I thought that it didn't open til June 3rd.. or are you working off of last year's app?
Ok so I'm about to ask my professor for a letter of recommendation but I'm confused about something. I want to apply to pharmacy school not this application cycle, but the one after that (next year). It says on the pharmcas website that it recommends electronic LOR's.
From my understanding, pharmcas will delete your application after every application cycle, so if I wanted to get a letter of rec (in the form of an eLOR), how am I supposed to store this letter for next year's application cycle?
😕

You have to just ask your professor next year. PharmCAS doesn't store your letters after one application cycle. I'm assuming you're applying for Fall 2011 and not Fall 2010? Because if you're applying for 2010, it opens in 3 days.

Right, 2011. Thanks for the response, I guess I just have to hope my professor will still remember me

im using last years
Why wait till then?
Either ask your professor now that you are interested in going to pharm school, and would he/she consider writing a positive LOR for when you apply - which won't be for a year or two. Get the confirmation in writing, via email or something. Then, when the time comes, ask again, and mention they already agreed to it.
Besides, you're doubting professors intelligence here. If you are asking them for a LOR, then you should have had some kind of relationship with your professor, and they don't easily forget. Well, most professors.
Or, you can even talk to your career center. My friend who was applying to law school told me to ask my LOR for references NOW and get them stored at the career center. He was very upset when he started applying to law school 2 years after he graduated to find out that among his LOR people, 1 had passed away, 1 had retired and did not want to be contacted. So he needed to do 2 make do LORs very quickly. You never know what's going to happen!

I actually need help making my application and paying -.-.
Im trying to get it sort out by the end of this week. If someone can add me over aim or pm me the instructions of how to apply it would be great.
Thank you. 🙂
Yea, me too. I'm starting my application on Wed. I'm so nervous!
I really want to get it right the first time around! If anyone... could email or PM me with advise I'd forever be indebted to you! Thanks!!!!

You guys know that the app clears between years, right? According to the website it does, anyways...
yea I had printed out last years instructions on how to apply and kept it to use as a guide. Im waiting until this year application opens up to fill out everything. Right now all of my info is on scrap paper lol
I posted this in another post:
"My suggestion is if you have any question about the application process, or even about the career, to pick up this book today or as soon as you can. Get Into Pharmacy School: Rx for Success! has cleared up a lot of my confusion and answered several questions by me only flipping through a few sections."
The book is by KAPLAN and they sell it in the SDN store and on Amazon for a few dollars less. It has a whole section of navigating through the PharmCAS application that I plan on using.

Hopefully you don't have to resort to high school awards. My Eagle Scout was the only thing prior to college I included.

When I applied three years ago, Deans list was either in the FAQs or in the instructions. Don't remember where it said to put it, but probably hasn't changed since then, so I'd check FAQs and intructions.
