I had my application turned in early september, and have not heard anything back yet. Do think this school is silent rejecting me? My stats are OOS cGPA 3.5 and MCAT 25.

Anyone who submitted there secondary around 10/29 hear anything from them? I'm OOS 3.9, 27 MCAT.. just curious if it means I should be expecting anything or not.

I wouldn't assume they are ignoring either of you because of stats, or OOS. They are regionalized, yes, but I don't think it is the most important factor here. I am non-traditional, but my GPA was ~3.5/26 MCAT, and here I am. Keep your chin up and Good Luck!

Does anyone remember how long it took to get your secondary processed after submitting it? I'd like to go look at my status via the portal, but apparently the link to the portal is sent after your secondary is processed?

I submitted on 10/20 and on my portal said everything was received yesterday. So about 15 days. PCOM-PA was a bit quicker.

I submitted it a week and a half ago and still nothing... They did say on the secondary that it might take two weeks though.

Within a week for me. And I can't remember if I got this link before or after my secondary was processed, but if you were given an ID and pin, try this out!

I wasn't given a pin number, just an ID number, so I don't think I can log in yet :/

Do you know when you were able into log into the portal? Before or after your secondary was processed?

Thank you! I submitted my secondary around October 23, so hopefully I'll hear back any day.

I received the portal login when everything was complete via email. If you applied to the other PCOM and was complete earlier, your GA-PCOM will also be on that portal but will say that you secondary has not been received until they processed it. But once they processed my GA-PCOM app, I received the same complete email with the login.

Yeah, I called the PCOM campus and they said that GA is a bit slower right now than PA. I called at exactly 15 days as they said in the email and I was complete the day after. Give it at least 15 days before you call and I'm sure you will get a notification by then.

It was 15 days yesterday for me, and I received the complete/portal e-mail early this morning.

Sorry for being neurotic but 15 business days or including weekends?

What's in the portal? Is it mainly used for interviews scheduling?

includes weekend for me. You get an email giving you your Login and PIN. When you login, it will tell you when they "processed" all of your required documents in a table. They don't say your status or anything. Heres what it says as a note:

Thank you for your interest in PCOM. Below are important details regarding your application for admission.
  • Below is a summary of your application including notification of required items received/processed by the Office of Admissions.
  • If there is a date populated in the Received column for each required item, your application is complete. Note that the Status column will always remain blank.
  • For DO applicants:
    1. The “Pre-Health Advisor/Committee Letter” will appear as required until the approved letter is received and/or all three of the alternative letters (two science faculty/one other faculty) are received/processed.
    2. Please note that the alternative “faculty” letters must be from professors who issued a grade for a course noted on your institutional transcript.
    3. An updated standardized exam score receipt date will appear in the Description column only when updated scores are submitted to PCOM through AAMC.
  • The application fee of $50 may be sent via check or money order to: PCOM Office of Admissions, 4170 City Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19131-1694. We cannot accept online payments.
  • Note, due to volume, that it takes at least 15 business days for items received by the Office of Admissions to be processed to an application for admission.
  • Once your application is complete, no further application status updates will be posted to this portal. Application status information is also not provided via phone or email inquiry at any time.
  • Note that you are welcome to submit significant updates to your applicant record (newly graded coursework or MCAT scores).
EDIT: You get that email with your portal login when your complete.
EDIT: They show the date they "processed" your required items, not when they received them.

Thank you! It's really helpful to know what to expect.

Based on this, and previous post on this thread, they really don't want us to call and bother them, haha! I saw on the last year's thread that some people called to ask about their apps and got invited for an interview during the same phone call -- maybe now everyone is calling hoping for the same outcome 🙂

how do you know you were complete? does it say on portal ? or did you receive an email saying your app is complete?

No, you will not receive an email or notification saying you're complete. You'll know your file is complete when all of the requirements (the 3 LORs, application, fee, etc.) are marked as "received" on the portal!

does the protal lists all the required documents from the beginning? or just the ones we sent in? Under requirements, I have app fee, MCAT, pre-health committee letter, and supplemental app., which all have received dates next to them. Is that all?

How does this school do rotations?

There is a LOT of info in last year's thread, but here is a condensed version... About half the class stays in the Atlanta area (known as the J track). The rest are dispersed throughout several southern states to different "hubs" where your rotations will be based out of. To help clarify, all your rotations should be within a specific distance from the center of your hub (I think it was like 50 miles or something, but I don't remember exactly). If a rotation is outside of that distance then the school will pay for your housing during that rotation.

Hope that helps. I'd look up the link from last year, but we have a test on Monday that we're studying for.

If anybody has any questions please feel free to ask. I'm a 2nd year that's pretty active in our school and can do my best to answer any questions yall might have

Only if it's a core rotation 🙂

thanks, that's nice of you! Could you tell us a bit about research opportunities? Since it's a small school, I'm assuming research isn't abundant on campus... Would doing clinical research and nearby hospitals be an option? Or do people try places like Emory, etc.?

I know a few people have gotten into research.. There are some pharma, neuro, and other research options but there isn't a whole lot. I haven't heard of people going to Emory because they are pretty selective up until 4th year. I know some people have done research 3/4 years on there rotations but again it's all what you make it.

But if your looking for serious research this might not be the place for you- just to be honest

Thanks, that's good to know. I guess it's probably true of the majority of DO schools. I'm sure Harvard has amazing research but... 🙂

I'm not that much into research but I thought some specialties like to see publications on your CV. So my other question would be: do most people self select for primary care? What are the current interests among your classmates and upperclassmen?

Thanks again.

I'm a 4th year and of course we do have people who have been going for family medicine since day 1. From what I gather, though, a good portion of our class going for specialities like surgery, EM and IM with plans for subspecialty training. Keep in mind, I don't talk to all of my classmates, this is just what I hear through the grapevine.

I applied to IM (95% ACGME university programs) and I can tell you that research has come up in all of my interviews to date. Luckily, I have a strong research background from the years before I started at GA-PCOM. Honestly, I think that is one of the biggest reasons I've been successful in getting interviews this season. Just my .02, though...take it for what's worth 🙂

I was always wondering if research prior to med school "counts", I'm glad it does!

On the portal, next to the line that reads, "application fee" there is another line, "no email" for me. does anyone know what that means??

It means that you didn't submit the email attached to the secondary instructions in the envelope that you sent to them with your secondary fee.

Does anyone know how long after the interview we should hear back if we were accepted or not?

Has anyone here had any luck with a lower MCAT? I have a 3.5 and 24 (6/10/8). I'm a GA resident, but I'm a bit worried about my chances with the averages around a 3.3/27 last time I checked. I'll be submitting the secondary soon, and I've already been to the campus and done the tour.

I got in with a 24, although my gpa was a 3.8... but I was also an out of state resident. I'd say your chances are still good, especially if you have a DO LOR. You never know until you try! ☺️

I'm not positive but I believe this schools mcat average is approx 24, so you're right at that!

@JimmyB123 @kalat

@user3 's compilation of gpa/mcat by school said that for 2015, they had an mcat average of 27.

but I don't think it should stop you from applying! 🙂 good luck!

I was just invited to a reception about the PCOM-GA campus. Are these helpful in any way or is it mostly just free food with PCOM peeps?

I have yet to hear back from pcom. I submitted way back in the summer... anyone else in the same boat?

My supplemental application was completed 10/22. No word yet. Do we just wait until we hear something? or should I be checking the portal for something?

I think you have to wait. The portal states that after being complete there will be no further updates to it.
