I am excited to attend the PCOM open house today from 4pm to 8pm. If anyone has any questions they want me to ask admissions or anything... Let me know. Good luck to all.

I went too... 🙂

I went too... 🙂

Thats great. How did you like it? Its deff one of my top choices...

We were first given a tour of the campus, saw the anatomy lab (awesomeness), lecture halls, saw an OMM demonstration (it was interesting). We were given a presentation on the admissions procedure. Avg MCAT is 28 for the entering class of 2018. GPA 3.5 ish.... The school has a very friendly environment (one big family type thing).... its located on City Ave and is close to just about everything.

Basically an awesome school! Good luck everyone!

Class entering 2013 or the class that just graduated?

I think it is one of my top choices too. I loved the environment there. Everyone was so friendly. My MCAT is a 27 but I have a higher GPA than their average so I hope that will count for something. Best of luck to everyone. The admissions committee expects that we will start getting secondaries on Saturday if everything goes well.

250 words for their secondary is not a lot... my LORs will probably not go out until mid-August. What should I do? :-/

I didn't go to the admissions presentation. I went to OMT, Financial Aid and the faculty panel. What did they cover i the admissions presentation? I really liked the school. I hope I get accepted. It would be perfect for me. 🙂

Did they mention if they have MCAT sub-section cut-offs? My GPA is also higher than their average and my MCAT is a 27 11V7P9B as well but that 7 worries me. Good luck to us both!

Your Verbal score is awesome! I wish I could score an 11 in verbal. I think you should call and ask them. Also I just found this: http://www.pcom.edu/General_Information/fact_sheet/Fact_Sheet.html

Do they prefer instate versus out of state? I am from Connecticut, Maryland and Puerto Rico. Is that going to hurt me?

Yeah but that 11 in verbal is not going to help. I think they want a minimum of 8 on each section. 🙁 And yes they do prefer in state applicants. I'm from NY so I guess I don't have a chance.

Call the school and ask them if your 7 will rule you out of the admissions process.

I think you should retake your MCAT. Do EK1001 for Physics, chemistry, organic chemistry and biology. If you can get an 11 in verbal I think you should be able to get at least an 11 in biology and probably at least a 9 in Physical Sciences.

See what this year brings. If you aren't happy I think you should retake as soon as possible. 🙂

I am bummed that they prefer instate... I did not know that... they are private after all... I really liked the school... and it is in a perfect location for me... in between Maryland and Connecticut... gah... :-/

I really want to get into medical school this year... I am considering retaking the MCAT too... I really hope that I can get into PCOM...

Has anybody received an email with the secondary yet?

Has anybody received an email with the secondary yet?

Not yet. On Tuesday, the admissions staff said that they were still working on it and they expected them to be sent out this weekend. I suppose they are still having some issues. I am sure it will be out within the next couple weeks.

Are you guys waiting for the secondary to write it or assuming it's the same as last year and pre- writing?

Just thinking for next year and moving expenses. Anyone know if lincoln green apartments are furnished?

My guess is that they are not. You could probably call and check though. Let us know if you find out any different. I just looked into it... it looks like a great place to live... I really hope I get into PCOM. 🙂

Went to their open house last week... I really liked it! Good luck to everyone applying.

+1 The experience is yours to interpret. I highly doubt they are going to discount any experience that is explained logically to fit the question. Obviously none of us are physicians so don't worry about your experience fitting that mold because no one's will. My opinion on these secondaries is that they are trying to tease out more of your personality and thinking process. Everyone is given a chance to explain themselves in the PS on the primaries. Secondary essays are meant to illustrate the applicant by mapping out our thought processes and gauging our ability to respond to directions. It's cliche to say but "there is no right answer" and the only wrong answer is the hastily typed BS given to fill space. Just my $0.02.

I was hoping that their secondary essay was actually longer than 250 words.
Noting the mission and objectives of the Osteopathic profession and PCOM, please describe your personal characteristics that demonstrate your interest in this field. Include an example of an event in which your actions directly influenced the life of another person and relate this to your goal of becoming a DO.

I bet we could also focus on how DOs focus on primary care and are the main providers for the underserved not just holistic care although that is important too... what do you think? I have so much to write about... how am I going to pack it into 250 words... :-(

Interesting. I've noticed a lot of those emails going into my spam folder too, but nothing today.

I don't see one either. I am sure they are sending out a lot of secondaries so it might take some time before we get ours.

I did not receive anything either. Does PCOM send the secondary to everyone?

I feel as though I know exactly what I want to say for this essay, but how I will take it down to 250 words is a little overwhelming

I got an email saying that my application is incomplete... did you send the money order through mail or through AACOMAS?

Did anyone else not apply to the Georgia campus but still get a separate e-mail confirming receipt of the primary app for Georgia (in addition to the one for Philly)?

Three professor letters? I have 3 MD letters, a DO letter and two science professor letters, guess I am going to have to scramble for one.

Yep. I got Georgia first--😕--then Philly. I guess they're just sending out both at once, and some got crossed.

This prompt almost seems impossible to cram into 250 words.

I am down to around 245 words and I don't want to cut anymore out without it losing its "magic".

This may sound like a silly question but its weird to me that they specially mention receiving the MCAT scores.....we don't have to send any MCAT scores to them since they should get that through our primary application right?

And we can just send $100 if we applied to both right?

What's the prompt?

"Noting the missions and objectives of the Osteopathic profession and PCOM, please describe your personal characteristics that demonstrate your interest in this field. Include an example of an event in which your actions directly influenced the life of another person and relate this to your goal of becoming a DO." - 250 words max

Same as last years prompt, but last years word limit was 1650. Sounds like a typo to me.

If I'm enrolled in PCOM's biomed program and will start in the fall, should I say 'yes' or 'no' for the question 'Have you previously ATTENDED PCOM?'

Well if it's a typo on the app, then it's on both the PA and GA applications. It's probably more likely that they got too many long winded responses last year.

I'm glad it's only 250 words honestly. I am getting fatigued with all of these 1600 character and 1200 word secondary prompts.
