I've been lurking for a while, but considering I just got my first acceptance I thought I should post my stats 🙂

Major/Minor: Art History Major with a Pre-Med and Psychology minor

In terms of timeline, I e-submitted my SOPHAS app by 1/3/2013. It was verified on 1/29/2013, mailed on 2/6/13 and schools had received my app by 2/11/13. My non-SOPHAS apps (Mount Sinai, Tufts, and UConn) sent all my apps by 1/15/2013.

It's a great opportunity and a great school, but I have been in contact w/ the HPM department in the last few months. I am interested in international health policy, and I am told the curriculum is more domestically focused. While the Global Health Certificate will be relevant, I do not think it will be sufficient to meet my specific interests. Again, definitely in contention, but we will see until I hear from others. 😉

Establishing California residency is quite difficult. Look to Berkeley's FinAid Office or Registrar Office, it should be outlined in there somewhere. I do know that out-of-state students cannot easily establish residency in California if their sole purpose of being in the state is to study, regardless of the length of study. So 2 years or 5 years, it does not matter.

Thank you! They sent me an email and asked me to log into the portal that we used to apply. From the portal, there's a link to the decision letter. The following day, I got an email from the MPH program with details for scholarship and costs.

Submitted Brown's app on 12/18; application received on 12/19; application completed on 1/11; admitted on 2/13

My application status still says "Awaiting materials"! I think they might be waiting for the TOEFL scores, which I don't need to submit because I received my bachelor's in the US. I've contacted them to inquire about that, I hope it didn't delay my app.

Thanks! Yeah, it's probably a departmental thing. I think they are assigning a point-person in case I have questions between now and the time I have to make a decision on their offer. The liaison is not an assigned advisor, although I have to say that they certainly must have read my personal statement very closely. I read the liaison's bio, and she is doing exactly what I am interested in.

I don't know yet, Yale is definitely one of my top choices but I think I'll wait to hear from the rest of my schools and look at the financial aid situation before deciding for sure. I'm super excited though!

It's looking strong for Brown at the moment, I really like the University! Also, with the recent news that they will be developing a School of Public Health it's become a frontrunner.

I don't think this is the case... When did you submit? Most people I see who have heard applied 1-2 months prior. My application was only received in late January, so I don't expect to hear anything before the end of this month.

I had a question about the UNC application. SOPHAS sent my application in December, but I just checked my UNC account through their website and it said that my "status" was completed in Feb 4, 2013. Does that mean they JUST got all my information? 😡

I don't think this is the case... When did you submit? Most people I see who have heard applied 1-2 months prior. My application was only received in late January, so I don't expect to hear anything before the end of this month.

I submitted on 1/7 and my application was received on 1/24, still have yet to get the 'completed' email. So you think this probably means having to wait till the end of the month or early March? If so that's more of a relief than being rejected 😉 thanks!

I actually heard back January 2nd by email, though the letter indicated that it was only being sent to a 'handful of students' at the time, implying there were more acceptances to come later!

Dude, your stats look great for Emory. I totally get the anxiety but I'd be really surprised if you don't get in.

I went to Berkeley from out of state, its really easy to establish residency as a grad student (it a bit different for undergrads I'm not sure why) everyone I know that came from out of state got in-state tuition their second year

For grad students the process is actually pretty straight forward and everyone gets residency their second year (unless you don't want it of course). The Registrar Offices website focuses mainly on undergrads so a lot of the information doesn't really apply.

You can't get it you first year unfortunatley but you can definitely get it your second year. I got my MPH at Cal, if you do decide to go and have a question about residency feel free to ask. 👍
