UCLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :highfive:

Healthy Policy and Management...

I'll fill the rest out later. It's 2AM, I just woke up to go to the bathroom, and I just happen to be checking my phone.

...back to bed. 🙂

Congrats! Is UCLA one of your top choices? It's definitely up there for me along with the in-state tuition. 👍🙂

It's a great opportunity and a great school, but I have been in contact w/ the HPM department in the last few months. I am interested in international health policy, and I am told the curriculum is more domestically focused. While the Global Health Certificate will be relevant, I do not think it will be sufficient to meet my specific interests. Again, definitely in contention, but we will see until I hear from others. 😉

I've been lurking for the longest time but finally decided to create an account to thank you all for helping me out!

Just got into Berkeley's MPH program for Infectious Disease and Vaccinology on Wednesday so it seems like theyre continually churning out decisions.

Best of luck to everyone else!

i want to go to Berkeley but the out of state costs compared to in-state are not looking good lol as would for any out of state school......anyone know if you can get in-state the second year of your MPH if you plan on living there afterwards anyways?

Establishing California residency is quite difficult. Look to Berkeley's FinAid Office or Registrar Office, it should be outlined in there somewhere. I do know that out-of-state students cannot easily establish residency in California if their sole purpose of being in the state is to study, regardless of the length of study. So 2 years or 5 years, it does not matter.

Yay! Congrats!! Do you think you'll be attending?

Thank you! They sent me an email and asked me to log into the portal that we used to apply. From the portal, there's a link to the decision letter. The following day, I got an email from the MPH program with details for scholarship and costs.

UGPA: 3.2 (top 10 university)
Major: Biology
Minor: Chemistry
GRE (May, 2012): V155, Q164, W4.5
Experience/Research: 2 laboratory-based biomedical research experiences (one on HIV detection and another on yeast genome stability), volunteered for an epidemiology research group at nearby school of public health (HPV and cervical cancer studies), working part-time as a clinical trials assistant

Submitted Brown's app on 12/18; application received on 12/19; application completed on 1/11; admitted on 2/13

My application status still says "Awaiting materials"! I think they might be waiting for the TOEFL scores, which I don't need to submit because I received my bachelor's in the US. I've contacted them to inquire about that, I hope it didn't delay my app.

Here you go:

***My profile/stats are on the first page of this thread.***

UCLA (MPH, Health Policy Track & Global Health Certificate):
10/30, submitted to SOPHAS
11/14, mailed by SOPHAS
11/30, submitted GradApp (online)
12/14, confirmation email/app sent to dept
2/14, admitted (via e-mail/Word Doc attachment)

***On the attachment I was assigned a faculty liaison "based on [my] personal statement and career interests.***

Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear from UCLA! 😀

Congrats!!! I wasn't assigned a faculty liaison. Do you think that was a departmental thing?

Congrats!!! I wasn't assigned a faculty liaison. Do you think that was a departmental thing?

Thanks! Yeah, it's probably a departmental thing. I think they are assigning a point-person in case I have questions between now and the time I have to make a decision on their offer. The liaison is not an assigned advisor, although I have to say that they certainly must have read my personal statement very closely. I read the liaison's bio, and she is doing exactly what I am interested in.

Congrats! Do you think you'll be attending? I am so on the fence still!

I don't know yet, Yale is definitely one of my top choices but I think I'll wait to hear from the rest of my schools and look at the financial aid situation before deciding for sure. I'm super excited though!

It's looking strong for Brown at the moment, I really like the University! Also, with the recent news that they will be developing a School of Public Health it's become a frontrunner.

In at UW-Seattle for Health Metrics & Evaluation as of last night. Still nothing from Harvard or Columbia!

Has anyone heard back from Yale for Health Management and Policy yet? I haven't seen it mentioned on here much. I'm wondering if they just haven't started reviewing for those programs or if this wait means I've been rejected 🙁(((

I don't think this is the case... When did you submit? Most people I see who have heard applied 1-2 months prior. My application was only received in late January, so I don't expect to hear anything before the end of this month.

Logged on to the link U of Washington provided that tells you the status of your application when you first apply. It appears they updated it (rejected from epi 🙁) without sending an email notification. Thought I should share the info!

Good Luck!

Accepted (all for mph in epi): U of Michigan, U of Minnesota, Yale CDE, U of Pittsburgh, UIC
Rejected: U of Washington
Waiting: Columbia, UCLA, UC Berkley, BU, Harvard

I'm sorry to hear that, but I see that you've been accepted into other great schools as well so that's good 🙂

I had a question about the UNC application. SOPHAS sent my application in December, but I just checked my UNC account through their website and it said that my "status" was completed in Feb 4, 2013. Does that mean they JUST got all my information? 😡

Hi all,

I submitted on 1/7 and my application was received on 1/24, still have yet to get the 'completed' email. So you think this probably means having to wait till the end of the month or early March? If so that's more of a relief than being rejected 😉 thanks!

Hi everyone,
I´m new here and I was wondering if anyone else had applied to Johns Hopkins MHS in Social Factors in Health? And has anyone heard back? I have looked and no-one seems to be discussing this speciality very much 🙂

Hi msiegel,

Congrats on all of your acceptances!! If you don't mind sharing, when did you hear back from UIC? Did they notify you by mail or email?

Thanks!

I actually heard back January 2nd by email, though the letter indicated that it was only being sent to a 'handful of students' at the time, implying there were more acceptances to come later!

Congratulations on you interview with Michigan. When did you interview? Would you mind telling me a little bit about it? I have no idea what to expect. Thanks 🙂

I got into UM's SPH - MHSA program! No info on finaid yet and still waiting back from HSPH and UM's Hospital for a job interview.

Deciding factor will probably be FINANCIAL AID. I live in GA so probably will go to Emory in the end. :/

Looking at last year's admissions decisions release dates, this week is going to be a biggie for those applying to the Ivies and Cal.

When did HSPH send out mass decisions last year???

Does anyone know what average acceptance rates are? And how big classes generally are (like each class year, not individual courses..)?

UGPA: 3.7, top 10 university
Major/Minor: econ
GRE: 157Q 165V 5W
Experience/Research (please, be brief): 2.5 years post-undergrad research in public health. 2 accepted publications (one as 1st author), posters and presentations at conferences.

Applied: Emory (GLEPI), HSPH (SM Epi), Yale (EMD), U Maryland (PhD in Epi). All submitted 1-2 days before respective deadlines.
Accepted: got in U Maryland last week, fully funded!
Rejected:

Have not heard anything from Emory, which is my top choice for personal reasons. Also, none of the MPHs are an option without some sort of funding. The Epi program in Baltimore is a great fit, I just want to be close to my girlfriend in Atlanta. Ughhhh, #conundrums...

Dude, your stats look great for Emory. I totally get the anxiety but I'd be really surprised if you don't get in.

Thanks qwery42, the anxiety is mainly because merit scholarships are so rare at all of these places. Keeping my fingers crossed, will see what happens... this board definitely helps to get a sense of how the game works.

Ah, true. That I don't feel comfortable predicting. Best of luck!

Congrats!

When did you submit your app? When was it processed? When did you hear back and how? (I've heard that in the past, Hopkins hasn't sent notification emails, which leads me to frantically check the website quite regularly....)

thank you. i had submitted my application on 29th November. Received the admit letter on 25th Jan 😀 .. keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best!! 👍

Yay! got a yes from Emory...now its between Emory and U Mich.
Getting really nervous about Hopkins, seems like they have been sending out acceptances for a while now....just not to me🙁

I went to Berkeley from out of state, its really easy to establish residency as a grad student (it a bit different for undergrads I'm not sure why) everyone I know that came from out of state got in-state tuition their second year

For grad students the process is actually pretty straight forward and everyone gets residency their second year (unless you don't want it of course). The Registrar Offices website focuses mainly on undergrads so a lot of the information doesn't really apply.

Rejection from BU environmental health MPH via snail mail 🙁

Yeah I was thinking establishing CA residency for grad students would be easier. I would be coming from Georgia and would like to live in California and get a job in the Bay area if I did decide to go to Berkeley. Since it is only a Master's I was wondering if you could get the tuition for the second year reduced to in-state if possible (maybe there is a way to become a resident after the first year).

You can't get it you first year unfortunatley but you can definitely get it your second year. I got my MPH at Cal, if you do decide to go and have a question about residency feel free to ask. 👍

I just got accepted into Boston University SPH for International Health with a merit scholarship 😀 Does anyone have any information on Boston U and funding opportunities?

Hmm mine was done weeks before yours. Think it would be wrong of me to send an email inquiring about the status of my app?
