I’m going!!
I'm here now and am living on campus now, but off campus next term. Feel free to PM me or ask me on here.hey!
is there anyone that already goes to SGU/lives there that would be willing to answer a few questions about off campus living? 🙂
It won’t let me message you for some reason, so I’ll just ask here and if you can reply by messaging me, we can do that! I’m living off campus right from the start because I’m bringing my dog, and am looking at apartments right now. I fell in love with one in morne rouge, but everyone is saying to only look in LAE. Have you heard anything about that? Thanks!!I'm here now and am living on campus now, but off campus next term. Feel free to PM me or ask me on here.
LAE is inexpensive. Most of my friends live there and love it. The only concern about that area, is there has been a lot of breakins in that area recently, but it is normally a very safe area.It won’t let me message you for some reason, so I’ll just ask here and if you can reply by messaging me, we can do that! Thank you! These are settings in your preferences. You have to change it to accept from members.
Living here isn't that bad. Just don't expect it to be like living in the US. If you live on campus you have to rely on the school bus system to get to places off campus, which is not that bad. The bus system has scheduled times. If you plan on living in the dorms, they do not have ovens only stove tops and a microwave. The culture is more laid back, so don't expect things to be done quickly. The grocery store has some common brand name foods, but the prices vary from expensive to reasonable. It mostly depends on how much you are willing to spend for certain products. If you have any other specific questions feel free to askAny current students able to say what it’s like living there?

I do like living here. The weather is always between 75 and 85. It does rain randomly throughout the day. When I'm not studying I usually go to the beach and relax or go out to the local places and hang with friends. There's pleanty of places to go off campus and explore on the island.I know studying takes up the majority of the time but when you do have free time do you like living there? Or do you pretty much just stay on campus?
The housing on campus for most vet and med students is an individual three bedroom suite with a shared kitchen and bathroom.Do they consider vet students upperclassmen? I’ve been looking at the campus housing rates and there are only two options that are not limited to undergrads or upperclassmen and I think both were double occupancy.

I was put on the waitlist for August last cycle and was told you get automatically accepted into the January class if not taken off. I was very close to being taken off the list a few months before, but deferred to the January class due to an injury. I just emailed Krista and told her I wanted to defer and she made it happen. If you have any concerns about it just email Krista. She's very helpful about anything you need to know and gets back with people quickly.Does anyone have experience with deferring an offer to January? I’m thinking of getting a deferral but I’m so worried that I won’t be accepted for January.

Oh yes I'm doing much better now! You do get automatically enrolled into the next term without needing to get reviewed again, atleast when waitlisted. Just ask Krista, she'll be able to give you more information on that. It shouldn't effect anything for clinical year due to most schools having two times to take in students. There are a couple select schools that do not have clinical years able to start in January, but there's not that many of them that do that.I’m sorry to hear about your injury! Hope you’re fully healed now. Did she automatically accept you into the January class after you emailed her? I’ve heard that they’ll move your application to the next cycle but you’ll have to compete for a spot all over again.
On another note, do you know how a January start affects clinical year? Would it put us at a disadvantage?

This is from the SVM website
"Acceptances cannot be deferred. Applicants who wish to matriculate in a later term than the one offered must put their request in writing to be reviewed with the application by the Committee on Admission for a final determination. Applicants should be aware that there is no guarantee that they will be offered the same terms of acceptance as all candidates are reviewed with consideration of the existing pool of applicants."
Thanks! I saw that on the website but it sounds as though others have been able to defer their acceptance without a problem if there is a good reason. I’ll talk to Krista and find out more information!
Really? How do you know that? Wow, that is really encouraging!!!Just so people who haven’t heard back yet can freak out a little less, 98% of people who receive an interview get accepted.
Hi. Can you tell me what VFP is? Thanks!I was
Hi. Can you tell me what VFP is? Thanks!
Thank you! There are stats on the website that has the acceptance rates and all of that! And VFP is veterinary foundation program I believe. Pre vet program
Thank you!
Awesome! Thanks again 🙂Enrollment and Demographics - School of Veterinary Medicine | St. George's University
Here's the link if you're interested in any other stats!
Is there an LGBT+ presence/community at SGU?
They have a housing portal and within that they offer an area where you give a description about yourself or what you would like others to know about you. You then are able to look at what everyone else put and send requests to be roommates or message them directly on the portal. I found it helpful to try to find people on facebook based off of their user name. If you do not pick a roommate then they will pair you with random people. How does housing work? Are we paired with random roommates?
Fellow Canadian here! I’ll be applying for whatever scholarships I can find. I’m going to set up a few meetings with different banks and find out who is willing to offer me the highest line of student credit. What are your plans?Any other Canadians? I’d be interested to see what your plans are for banking. Trying to decide what I want to do

I thought I read somewhere we could pay by credit card. Not sure how a scotia bank account would work with transferring credit from other banks. I’m with RBC now.Applying for line of credit and scholarships for sure but I’m not sure what the best option is for a bank account. The website says you need a US account to use direct deposit for your tuition. I’m with TD right now but a 3rd year student that I know there recommended opening a scotia bank account because there is a branch in St. George’s so you don’t have to pay wicked ATM fees. Not sure if it’s worth getting an account from a local bank down there or just switching to Scotia bank♀️
Congrats!I finally found a large animal vet willing to let me shadow in order to gain my 200 experience hours in order for me to keep my acceptance from SGU!
Yay, I'll officially be moving to Grenada in about 4 months, how crazy!? 🤣
Hello! Thanks for reaching out to us. I am waiting on hearing back from SGU for Fall 2020. Had my interview and am very impressed with what the vet school has to offer. Can you tell me how large most classes are, and if you feel that you are receiving the right amount of help if need be from professors? I hope all is well and that you just taking a break 🙂Hey y'all! I'm on a leave of absence for this term so I'll be joining back in class with all of you in starting in August. Feel free to PM me if you have questions about the school or classes.

I think the SGU webpage mentions that iPads don’t meet the software requirements but could probably be a useful tool for notes and studying depending on how you like to learn. I’m looking to buy a new laptop but not really sure what kind to buy. My 2010 MacBook is on its final legsHey ya'll, is anyone investing in a new computer/tablet for vet school?
I have a four year old HP surface pro but I'm considering purchasing an iPad since I heard it's the most user friendly with a lot of the programs we'd need to download for classes and exams
Hi everyone! I submitted my deposit and just wanted to make sure that I don’t need to send anything else to save my seat before April 15 rolls around.
