yeah my experience last year exactly, though I came off really liking the school. I remember the Temple tour bus coming late though, so we missed out on a lot of what the school had to offer in that town.
It'll be more like this:
Adcom 1: "Hey weren't we going to admit some people today."
other adcom: "No, it's already 2 in the afternoon, we need to roll out of here in 2 hours and I'm still a bit buzzed from my 3 martini lunch."
Adcom 1: "and it's half way through the week, tommorow is pool party thursday, and don't forget Tiki Friday, I say we put it off till next Monday."
new york. went to ut-austin though and living in philly for this year
Mid 30's MCAT and average GPA (3.6) would make you a pretty superhuman applicant in Texas, at least.
The average MCAT and GPAs are pretty much on average for the rest of the country... I don't think it's THAT much easier to get in if you're from Texas. But if you do want to stay here, having so many schools makes it easier to find a school that fits your personality.I've been thinking about this. [Leaving us all open for attack] Are we lesser applicants than OOS's? Most of us apply in-state only. We have soo many schools and such high in-state acceptance quotas. Are we just ridiculously lucky?
i don't think we're all necessarily less smart than OOS schools/applicants. i think you're right that our 90% in state quota brings in a more diverse group but it doesn't appear to affect the caliber of UT med students.I've been thinking about this. also let's not forget that texas is the best state ever.
August MCATer or no? Cuz if no, I'd be wondering what you've been doing all this time..
I don't think that anything will come at midnight on the 15th. I bet that any offers that are handed out will go out via snail mail on the 15th. Although, most/all of our interview offers were sent out via email, so it is possible that they could go out via email on the 15th. Has anyone asked their premed advisor about it? I don't really get to campus anymore, so I don't really have the chance to.So other than the guy assuming adcoms to be a bunch of lazy folks, for the rest of us... any thoughts on THE day/night: midnight of the 14th?

My guess is the offers will begin the day of the 15th, just like they did with the OOSers on 10/15.
for the lucky few who get these acceptances congrats, i've prepared myself for feb 15
Did the OOS offers come via email? (to any OOSers that received offers)My guess is the offers will begin the day of the 15th, just like they did with the OOSers on 10/15.
where was everyone's hardest interview?
mine was at utsa, my interviewer gave me no questions, just value statements that i had to expand upon and i wasn't able to read him at all...
Meh, the really long day and Filo's somewhat true, but also somewhat contrived, attitude kind of put me off. But still, i liked it more than other schools and definitely wouldn't have turned it down if it was my only only.
How you liking Dallas potato??? We just got done with our first block down here and I'm thinking i'm getting a hang of this whole med school thing...lets hope i can keep it up![]()

Just curious...
Did any of yall call the Admissions Office for the status of your application? I am afraid they might have misplaced or lost a transcript, etc...
There are ~1,200 seats available for med students for 2007 of all med schools in TX. So far I have seen about 3 people on SDN been accepted. Look like rain comes late this year in Texas or they are putting a massive lotto program to launch.
I want to go to the "ISLAND". LOL
You're aware that the absolute earliest that Texas residents could hear about acceptance is November 15th, right?
Nice... wish I could have applied there...
That much is part of the Texas in-state rules and regulations... all TX state schools get to charge students who get at least $1000 of scholarship as if they were in-state students. Does anybody know whether Baylor follows that same guideline?
I have been looking for more info on this and I haven't seen it in writing anywhere... does anyone have a source?
They all said that at interviews. Honestly, I'm skeptical. What's the point in charging OOS higher tuition if they just find ways not to charge it? Since the average TX school takes about 20 (10% of 200) OOS students, and the difference between in-state and OOS tuition is about 20k, why would they just give up that $400k? It's not like they have trouble filling their classes.I have been looking for more info on this and I haven't seen it in writing anywhere... does anyone have a source?

But, pretty much everybody DID say that it happens.
Coordinating Board Rules, Chapter 21, Subchapter B, Section 21.26(b)(4):
(A) Nonresidents (including citizens and permanent residents of the U.S. and all foreign students) who receive eligible competitive scholarships from their institutions totaling at least $1,000 may be granted a waiver of nonresident tuition for the period of time covered by the scholarship, not to exceed 12 months.

Yeah, I didn't doubt that it was that law, what I doubt is how many OOSers actually get $1000+ scholarships. The other one that I have heard is that some schools (heard this a lot at Baylor) will give you residency after 1 year. This seems contrary to [at least the spirit, if not also the letter] of residency law. You're right -- it's bizarre -- but here's the link:

And the quote: (from the bottom of p20)

I am a borderline applicant. Barely 3.0 Science GPA, 3.3 Overall and a 27 (combined MCAT). This being sad, I still hope to have a chance at a TX Medical School. I haven't gotten a single interview, and I applied to ALL the medical schools in TX. I have gotten out-of state interviews. (I went back and got a Master's and I also have solid work experience so I think they've appreciated that.)
Any recommendations on improving my chances? I have already started emailing/calling in. I think I'll send a formal letter, as well.
I went to an out-of-State school and my advisor doesn't really know much about the TX system. 🙁
I don't want to ask if I stand a good chance for a TX school b/c I know sometimes it's just a shot in the dark. But any recommendations on how to further my chances?
(I am very much an over-represented minority and female.)
Not much that you can do for this cycle, I'm afraid. For next cycle, do a post-bac, retake the MCAT, and apply early.I am a borderline applicant. UTSW gives out automatic interviews to applicants with very high GPA and MCAT. if you don't belong in that category then UTSW really does have their act together.woohoo i got a UTSW interview... they are really on top of their game, since i just was completed 2 days ago! it's organized schools like this that make me think highly of the process... everyone shoudl be like them, haha.
