Hey TB,

it looks like only you and I are visiting this thred. I can't wait for spring break to start and chill. For me it starts next monday.

I can't wait til end of march, cause that's when the movement happens. I hope baylor and alot of the out of state schools pick people from tx.

I miss having a spring break. You lucky dawg! 😉

I think we won't see anything until late March. People who receive acceptances at Baylor will not give up their TMDSAS spots until they have confirmed their acceptance at BCM. It is a part of the standard pre-med paranoia. 🙂

Thanx for the love tb 😍

UH is ok, it's perpetually under construction but we finally got a new library! Oh and the new honors college is fabulous. And the UC Satellite was re-done as well. But I think they need to raise the admission standards here or something, the place is just WAY too crowded. You have to plan ahead to get lunch now because you spend like half an hour in line! But other than that it's ok. Many of my interviewers criticized my decision to come here, which I don't understand because I think that it's very much possible to get a good education here. And we don't have grade inflation. I think UH is underrated/written off by a lot of people, which isn't fair. Just my opinion though.
No need to plan lunch times. Get to know the people behind the counter and you will always get hooked up! 😉

Then there's a good number of people who got into both Southwestern and Baylor and cant't decide which of the two to attend. I knew someone last year who didn't decide until around early May. Lucky people; at least they have a choice.

yikes..page 3..bump

so do you think the school's "close" for springbreak. I mean what if you want to call them.

I think the administrative offices stay open so the admissions staff should be there.

let's hope this week is better in number of posts than previous week and hope we get more info.

Happy Monday folks! 🙂

Did everyone have a good weekend?

Do your own research. I'm not going to sit here and type it all out for you.

Perhaps b/c your claims are full of comparisons of the wrong statistics as well as countless other unproven assumpations? However I do commend you on the new method of "I'm too good to answer your stab at my bullshiet claims" rebuttal. 👎

Here ya go, someone typed it ALL OUT FOR YOU ... o my and it happens to be from The Chronicle of Higher Education. :meanie:

Enjoy!

I'm hitting up New Orleans. 😀

Checked the mail today and got my rejection letter from UT-H. It was barely two paragraphs long! It also informed me I was rejected from the alternate pool 🙄 (not the medical school itself!). Overall, a very poorly worded letter that took some adcom office staffer about 3 minutes to write! 😡

I'm sorry to hear that jbp. 🙁

Where are you waitlisted?

kiwieyes, should we bring the list back up? 🙂

what do you think hurt you: mcat/gpa, interview, applied late.

how were your stats.
UTH did tell me that the rejection letter was gonna be sent two weeks after the waitlist letter.

ouch, i feel for you.

Lucky!!! 🙁

Double whammy for me when I checked my mail today: rejection letters from both UTSW and Houston. Even know I already knew what my status was at both schools...it was more painful to get the letters in person. 🙁 🙁 🙁 An ugly reminder of what I'm missing.

This day better not get any worse.

Wow! I am so sorry to hear that 🙁

It's always harder seeing it in print.

Let's look on the bright side....you are IN at TCOM and waiting for UTMB, right?

Yeah...but chances of getting into UTMB are slim, and I think I mentioned before that my parents aren't supportive of my attenting TCOM.

Hopefully for all of our sakes it will be different this year. 🙂

Anyone got their letter from UT-Southwestern yet?

I think UTSW has just started pulling some people from the waitlist for either admission or rejection. When I went up there for MS0 Day they told us that most of us had already confirmed our intent to go there, but the following Monday (today) they were going to seriously start evaluating how many spots they had open. Also, AMCAS admission offers go as far down as May 15th, so those that are debating between Baylor and UTSW or anything like that...the UTSW admissions office can't know where these people will go...so it might be a long wait. :\ But don't stress...there's nothing you can do to make things go quicker or make your application look better...relax and enjoy your last semesters (if applicable) in undergrad! 😉 Best of luck to you...hope to see you at UTSW!

Thanks for the info on UTSW and your kind words. I am sure they will alleviate the anxieties of some people on this thread. 🙂

It sounds like you are in a tough spot. Originally (in ref to this comment), I was going to ask whether you applied to medical school for yourself or your parents. However, no matter the answer, you sound like you're going through a lot of grief at the moment. If you, personally, don't feel that you're a good match at TCOM, then with a clear heart you can open up your spot for other applicants who want it.

Otherwise, if your parents are still adament that you appease them, then tell THEM they can pay the money for you to reapply again (I know it cost me over a $1,000 this year, and that's CHEAP!), and after your MD acceptance, take out some very reasonable subsidized/ unsubsidized loans **and cut yourself loose from your parents**, cuz you will be miserable if they must approve of your decisions for the rest of your life.

You're not a bad person/ applicant for where you are in the pool right now and if you don't want to go to TCOM. But you have a lot of options right now, and it's understandably overwhelming to sort through all of them. There are plenty of students who A) Went to TCOM and were very happy B) Went to TCOM and decided they wanted a different degree C) Got pulled off the waiting list to another school D) Waited a year, applied again and were accepted/ were not accepted. Don't vacillate cuz you're not certain if your parents or the schools will be upset with you.

FYI - TX schools look favorably on reapplicants (provided, they've matured/ improved), and, working in in the TX Medical Center if Houston, I see a fair number of DOs around. So if you're afraid of not getting accepted to an MD school, or not getting advancement with a DO, there is a lot of evidence that shows otherwise. Good luck!

I have been around..I have no new info to report..I was thinking I might call the schools and ask if they have started taking people off the waitlist..that's a double edged sword however and I am not sure I really want to know! 🙂
I wrote letters of interest to the schools I intervied at and am trying to decide whether to send them or not..do those things even work?
TB, have you met with Maldonado yet??

I can honestly say that wanting to be a doctor was my decision and no one else's. TCOM was my first interview, so I liked it when I went there. At the end of the interview season, I just found that I liked the other schools I interviewed at much better. But you're right, fotolilith...the past month and few days have been tough, and I feel like a bad person for not being happy about where I matched.

My parents aren't really trying to control my life; they just hear from their MD doctor friends that DOs have a hard time finding good residencies and jobs (argument = why would an MD school want to take on a DO as a resident when they have so many MDs to choose from?), and they're worried that I'll be at a disadvantage with everyone else. But they (and everyone else) say it's my decision to make in the end.

How do TX schools look upon students who reject where they matched the first time and reapply in hopes of going somewhere else? I read somewhere about a person who turned down Houston to reapply and apparently has not matched anywhere since. My stats are above avg so there's a chance I'd be fine if I do choose to reapply (just have to do something in the summer). The question is do I want to take it...and I'm not big on taking risks.

At any rate, I'm still undecided. But if I do decide to attend TCOM, I think I have it in my heart to accept it and be happy there 🙂

Reading more, I think I understand your POV of wanting to make certain that your heart is in your final decision about medical school (after all, it affects the rest of your life).

I remember at least one other applicant who turned down TCOM and reapplied this year - they were definitely on the TMDSAS thread this year (I think ended up at Tech's early decision program, tho you can check the thread and/or www.mdapplicants.com ).

And UTH is kinda wonky about "non-traditionals" (ie, they often do not interview some of their *own* grad students, some applicants get interviews one year and not another, the first MD/PhD *rejected* this year by the post-interview committee was also the applicant with the highest MCAT), ... so point is, there's no rhyme or reason to gauge from. 👎

Good luck and I doubt you'll regret the fact that you seem to be looking at this decision from all sides. :luck:

Three days in New Orleans to see what there is to see, then one night in Shreveport to gamble.

It seems to me that adding people to a waitlist would in fact be GOOD news for current waitlisters...If a school is adding to their list, they probably anticipate a good deal of movement and want to ensure their class for next year is filled. It's more likely than not that the new names will be added to the end of the list...

Hi kiwieyes!

Have a great trip!!!! 🙂

For all of those on the list awaiting UTMB alternate pool movement - here is some info my son received today.

Per Dr. Thomas at UTMB - "they are oversubscribed by 28 students for this year's class at this point."

It is still VERY early in the waiting game. My fingers are crossed for alot of Baylor and out of state acceptances!
Good luck to all.

What'd you write and who'd did you write it to, mean to the dean of admissions or what.

Did you e-mail or sent a letter.

Guys......check out the UTMB c/o 2009 thread.....someone said their offer of acceptance had been rescinded by UTMB, because they had "overpopulated" the class 😱 (letter via snail mail)........

Can they do that??? 😕
