God I hope they're done sending out those letters...I feel kinda sick to my stomach right now.

I hear you.....I think this reflects poorly on UTMB.....and what happened to the schools ranked lower than UTMB, is his/her application still automatically withdrawn from those schools? So many questions.....this has me paranoid now about my own acceptance!

Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking. What if this person were to have matched with a lower ranked school instead? It seems like UTMB just threw a wrench in the whole system. 😡

If this is indeed true, then I'm glad I decided not to rank them higher on my rank list...

It's a little annoying that there are some really great people on this forum sitting on waitlists and a complete idiot like that got in.. 👎

Does anyone know if the schools are aware of our match status?
For example if we did not match anywhere, because perhaps that is something that they take into account when taking people off the waitlist?

Should the people on the UTMB waitlist assume then that there's going to be very little, if any movement at all? I know several people who matched at UTMB who are on the UTSW waitlist, but even then, it'd be hard for us to move up. 25 people have to withdraw from UTMB before we have a shot...sucks

YES, the schools know where you match is what i hear from someone (not sure), i think she talked to the dean at some school.
AMCAS schools find that out on may 15 and i thought that was the same thing for TMDSAS, but guess not.

and as for whether they take it into account, i have heard no and if you think about it, the school probably want the best kids so maybe they would not care, but after going through the process, i don't know what to say...

any new info, it seems we have posted more today then the entire last week.

FYI - TX schools look favorably on reapplicants
This bodes well for me. (I'm still waiting, but I'm pulling out all the stops on my "alternate plans." In other words, I'm not just "waiting." I'm reapplying, applying post-bacc to TCOM, etc. 👍 )

fotolilith said:
And UTH is kinda wonky about "non-traditionals".......
This does NOT! 😱

I applied MD/Ph.D to UTH and didn't even get an interview (granted, my stats aren't stellar, but I interviewed at TCOM for the dual degree). 🙁

I'm pretty sure all Texas schools are aware of your match once it has been conducted. As far as "not matching anywhere" and other criteria...the ONLY thing the schools are using is your TMDSAS application--they won't use new information to evaluate your status on the waiting list. Again, there is nothing else you can really do to change your wait-list status, except wait. :\ But you guys shouldn't worry...if you're on the wait list you are certainly more than qualified to be in med school, and things will fall in your favor 🙂

It seems to me that adding people to a waitlist would in fact be GOOD news for current waitlisters...If a school is adding to their list, they probably anticipate a good deal of movement and want to ensure their class for next year is filled. It's more likely than not that the new names will be added to the end of the list...

hopefully this is true... however, they surely aren't expecting 50 some-odd spots opening... so why add more to the list! sigh... i'm just bitter... and nervous!

off to VEGAS! :luck: maybe i'll have better luck there...

Does anyone know if the A&M alternate list has been ranked? I checked my MFU (I know, the date probably means nothing) and I have it as 030405, which was last Friday. Anyone else waiting on A&M have any LMFU change since Feb?

Good morning all! Happy Wednesday! 🙂

b-real, we don't know if the list is ranked yet and my LMFU has not changed since 021705.

 You could call them if you want and post it on here.... 😎

W'd up everybody.

Anyone know what happened to "ifailedmcat", I send him a PM but he hasn't checked for a while and he hasn't posted for a while either, he's in the same situation we are in. I was just curious if anyone knew him or something.

No new info, i figured i'll call the schools next week, just cause, for no other reason then to see if anyone's there.

so anyone hear waitlisted/accepted/expecting rejection out of state. I didn't even get an interview and I got good stats, i think it's cause i applied to the wrong schools. IDIOT.

thehopeful said:

Ditto. I applied to some dream schools (Cornell, Columbia, etc.) and did not get interviews there. But, I did get interviews and a couple of acceptances at schools with lower matriculant stats--NYMC and Rosalind Franklin. Worst case scenario, if you guys re-apply, I would highly suggest applying to a bunch of these types of schools via AMCAS (I hear Drexel also falls into this category?). I know its expensive, but at the very least, this strategy allowed me to cruise to Feb 1st with acceptances in my pocket.

Good luck! :luck: :luck:

I thought for sure I'd get into one of my top four med school choices in Texas so I only applied to two schools out of state (WashU and Case Western Reserve) that I was interested in attending. Big mistake on my part. Should have applied to more so-called "low tier" schools, but oh well. I'm currently on hold at Case; will hear back in April (not that I expect good news; I had better interviews in Texas than I did there, and look what happened) I thought about sending a letter of interest to UTMB, but is there even a point considering they accepted too many people and the waitlist might not even be touched this year?

So, who else has seen an increase in their spending since Feb. 1? 😳

since i'm in school, I guess i have spent more money on junk food since 2/1.

Anyone thinks that unfortunately there may not be movement this year. b/c last year there was alot of movement and the year before there was none, so i am thinking it's a sine curve thing. I heard that a 2 yrs ago there was not much movement. anyone heard anything different.

Silly rabbit, trix are for kids. Logic and the Texas Match are mutually exclusive 😱

Who knows what will happen.

Logic and medschool application process, come on, please be kidding.

I even think that they know where we rank them before 2/1, after seeing how some people matched (myself as well). it's a long shot theory but I partially think it could be true, obviously i know most people would disagree with me, and that's one reason why i don't want to post it. plus i am too lazy to write that long.

anyone not doing anything for spring break, I am. I also have some school work so, that's one of the reason.

anyone callled any schools.

If we're talking booze, yes.

And books, CD's, anything to keep my mind occupied (besdies studying, of course) 😀

I bought the seasons 1-4 box set of South Park today. :meanie:

Thank goodness it was off of E-bay! I got it for $46!!!

Oh yeah, and I am out of my $30 worth of booze that I bought on Sunday 😳

Ok this is total random babbling, but I need to unburden myself 😳

I never know how to feel on this site. I see the threads about people waiting to hear post-interview from Harvard and UCSF, and I feel depressed, inferior, inadequate. Then I see people without an acceptance yet and I feel like such an a$$ for even being depressed. But I'm not depressed about med school, I'm really quite resigned about it. It's just other stuff in my life, you know? I thought being accepted to medical school would turn my life around and make me happy overnight, but I was an idiot for ever having those kinds of expectations. I hope I don't sound like a complete nutcase, I just needed to get this off my chest!

Good luck to you all! 🙂 :luck:

BTW, has anyone heard from UTSW as to what quartile you're in yet?

I know what you mean. This should be the happiest time of my life, and even though I got accepted at TCOM, I'm still disappointed a bit that the match did not favor me a little more (I wanted to get into UTSW, UT-H, or UTMB) Talk about feeling like an @$$...especially when there are so many people on waitlists who didn't match anywhere.

Ok, I'll be quiet now 😳

I know this is a sensitive subject to ask but i'm just wondering...

to the students who didn't match, what are your stats like? I currently have a 3.6 gpa and 30 MCAT.

I also applied to pharmacy school this year.

I don't care; here's mine:

undergrad, UNT, biology maj./chem minor
GPA, low: comes out to 3.0023546754205620 by TMDSAS 🙄
MCAT: 29
Applied dual degree to UTH, TCOM
applied MD to UTSW and UTMB (necessary to stay close by)
non-trad, single mom of 3
various civic activities, work full time, taken average of 12 hrs/semester
3 good interviews at TCOM (so I thought)
no clinical experience
1 year's experience in lab at (get this) UNT HSC, the same place that rejected my Ph.D app. (The head of the department wrote my LOR)
😕

Your stats are great. Who knows what adcoms are thinking?

Oh, waitlisted at TCOM.

I don't mind posting mine either
Undergrad UT, Psych major
GPA: 3.4
MCAT: 27 ( my scores expired this year so I have to retake, took the first MCAT without Physics so that might help)
have both research exp and clinical exp, lots of volunteer exp,
reapplicant
interviewed at UTHSCSA, Tech and TAMU. Last year at UTH, Tech and TAMU
Non-trad. took two years off before applying. I am currently a Cytogeneticist with a laboratory that offers genetic testing and a intern at the Travis Co Medical Examiners' Office.
Waitlisted at all three schools

I'm no longer in school and I work full-time. 🙂

I am readyfor Spring Break, but not the test I have to take before spring break. 🙁 😀

I got my file review from TCOM today. Pretty much what I thought: low GPA and lack of clinical experience hurt me. My plan was to find work in a hospital or something in the field, so that should help. They also said to apply earlier (I waited too long). What they DIDN'T say was to try post-bacc, which is promising. Applying to TCOM's post-bacc was on my "plan B" list. I'll probably try to work full time in a hospital doing something, and applying in May this time. This won't give me much time to rack up the experience they want me to have, because I don't graduate until May, but it's 6 of one and half a dozen of another......🙂

Anybody else request file reviews?

Wow! I love how schools tell you everything you already know. 🙄

Did they give you the impression that you had a shot in coming off of the waitlist? I heard they are "gestapo-like" (courtesy jbp  ) with info like that. They won't tell anyone anything about it (i.e. # of people on it, ranked or not, your ranking, waitlist mvmt, etc etc -- info from earlier posts in this thread). Dunno why they are so secretive. 😕

so there's something called a file review. I have never heard of it. How can i ask a school and whom do i ask to do it. should i ask a school where I am waitlisted.

labrat, here's a trick I used when I applied the second time (I was lacking clinical exper the first time). I started volunteering at a hospital at the beginning of august, but turned in my app for processing at the end of august. So, under the health care volunteering section, I put "August DD/YY through present" so that when they reviewed my app, they might think I was volunteering all the way through sept/oct or whenever they reviewed my file (which I was), so it made me look like I had more experience than I really did when I turned in my app. Also, I had some interviews in Nov and Dec, so I had accumulated a lot of hours by then. Just be sure you do actually volunteer, or else you may look like a liar if they ask you questions about it 😀 .

I don't know if this actually worked...but I thought I'd try it and I'm in this time.

I requested a file review from TCOM, but I was under the impression that it was a meeting between the applicant and someone in the admissions office. And they are gestapo-like with info regarding the waitlist. No information is released at all - nothing about how many people on the list, how many they have taken in years past. Nada.

hey someone started a thread earlier about metting the dean at TAMU, i couldn't find the thread, I wanted to revisit it. do you know who posted it or could someone else see if they have a better luck. was it someone from here. I just wanted to see what was written.

somepeople have already had their springbreak, it's weird. but mine started today at 4pm. woohoo

Yeah, keep them hopeful. About 2 days before my first interview I had a research publication accepted, so I "casually" mentioned when I could that my article was "in press"...certainly not the same as having a full citation at the time, but every little bit of hope helps your case.

Also, and I hate to pressure you, but try to keep your GPA as perfect as possible this spring (I know, easier said than done). My gpa started out pathetic (ie, my first semester science gpa was HALF of what my last semester's science gpa turned out to be), but when TCOM reviewed my file at the end of the interview day, the lady said they were very impressed at my improvement. You've got a busy life, understandably, but you will have a lot to be proud about if you can do well academically this semester. :luck:

UNTlabrat and baylorshannon, are you guys on the waitlist and still asked them for a file review. do you think they may get a negative perception of that or something like that.

thehopeful said:

I'm not a smart man, but my feeling would be if a student on the waitlist showed that they were so determined to get in that they were already thinking about next year's app in case this year's waitlist didn't work out for them, I'd admire that. It would be a positive. If a student said the only thing they were doing was just watching the waitlist, I'd think less well of them.

That's just my opinion of how I would feel if I was on an adcom.
