So BM now stands for "Baylor Movement?" :meanie:

yeah but i read on this thread or the UTSW thread that UTSW has accepted 329 people for 220 slots, so it's seems like that could take a while.

please someone say this is not the case.
does anyone know how many people they have accepted and how many seats UTSW have.
let's have an updated list this week by calling the schools or what people remember.

put it up everybody.

I remember reading that UTSW overfilled their entering class for 2005 and that the earliest waitlist movement would be in late June. I have heard this from several people, so it is probably safe to assume that it is true.

I wrote somewhere that I called Baylor on Friday and they said they are still sorting applicants into acceptance/wait list/rejection piles, and they have until May 15th to finish this process (duh).

Hope that helps at least a little bit.

It would make sense for 329 to include the people on the waitlist (accepted to UTSW, but alas, no room for them), rather than UTSW accepting 329 and hoping that 100 people withdraw so they don't have an oversized class. But I'm not on the waitlist so what do I know 🙄

what's up blue orchid,

it seems like you haven't posted for a while.

I agree with you in that it seems high, cause all the other schools have only overaccepted 20-30 people, but I was thinking it could be true since most people that get accepted in to UTSW have high numbers like 33+ and 3.8+, so that means they'll get accepted outside of tx and leave. so i thought if i look at it that way then it makes sense, cause they expect alot of people to leave. I think this number was posted in UTSW class of 2009 thread.

so any update on the new updated list.

In the alternate list letter, he said that they took 30-40 people off the waitlist last year, which to me seems like a fairly large amount...

Anyway, I got my email thingie and I'm in Quarter 1 of the in-state bunch. Here's my dilemma....I've been accepted to UTHSCSA (and would be totally happy going there), but I'd like to try and get off the SW waitlist. However if movement doesn't start until late June, my chances are probably nil since they can't make offers to people who have already been accepted to a Texas school after June 1....

So I'm torn between
1) Just wait it out until June 1st
2) Give up my place at UTHSCSA as June 1 nears and hope that "Quarter 1" actually means something at SW
3) Take myself off the UTSW waitlist and just freakin stop worrying about this

I'm also submitting a paper tomorrow to Molecular Cell (YAY!) and think UTSW will be receiving a copy....

argh. anyways....just thinking on paper here 🙄

Seems like a no-brainer to me. Go to UTHSCSA...why give up a sure thing for MAYBE getting off a waitlist?

I think it's June 15 this year. 🙂

Good luck! :luck:

what's up blue orchid,

it seems like you haven't posted for a while.

I went skiing at Breckenridge for spring break. It was my first time on the slopes, so it was pretty terrifying 😱 I didn't have good control of my skis, went too fast down the slopes, and fell way too many times for my liking. But it was still fun. Took my mind off med schools for a while 🙂

Maybe you can find out how many ppl are in each quadrant/quarter... if the numbers are low, like 10-20, I say wait it out til June and then decide, but if it's something like 50-60 in Quarter 1, just think it through... already having an acceptance is good... but if there's still a "good" chance (i.e. low number per quarters)... duke it out!

Good Luck with whatever you decide! :luck:

haha! VEGAS was a BLAST! I saw "O" at the Bellagio, and that was amazing! WON $500 buckaroos on a slot machine too! Unfortunately, I donated it all back before I left! Still a good trip nonetheless!

wish you could have a Spring Break buddy!!! 😛 I guess lack of EXAMS and LAB PAPERS make up for it, huh? hehe...

I'm pretty sure it is June 15th. And UTSW definitely accepted around 330 people for their 220 spots (they told us at MS0 day).

Back to the grind.

How is everyone today? 🙂

You got the grind part right, man having to give presentation right after spring break, obviously I am not up to it.

So did UTSW tell you guys that they expect atleast 110 people to withdraw. That seems like a high number so what was their explanation.

They have to expect people to withdraw. Overfilling by 50% really isn't that much for a top 20ish school. I know similar schools that will eventually give out twice as many acceptances as spots available, because a lot of people end up with mutliple offers.

So basically they told you they expect over 110 people to say no.
I understand UTSW has people with your kind of stats who may choose to go out of state.
I'm not on their waitlist but if they expect to fill some seats threw waitlist then hopefully the domino effects kicks in before june 1st or 15th, whatever the date maybe.

I don't remember them mentioning ANYTHING about how many people they "overfilled" with at MS0 Day...and I was paying very careful attention because one of my friends is on the waiting list...sounds fishy to me...if you guys are that hardcore on finding out what's going on at UTSW, contact them DIRECTLY--don't believe everything you read!

Spring Break was amazing. It was my first time in New Orleans, and WOW! Too much fun. 🙂 And the day after I got back I received an acceptance into graduate school, so at least I'll have something to do next year as I wait for my reapplication to go through. I am really not looking forward to going back to class tonight, but oh well.

Hi Everyone!

Just wanted to update. I called UTSA today, and they said they can no longer release info on the alternate pool size/number, but they said they have already begun pulling ppl from the waitlist!!!!! :scared:

Sadly, I haven't received any word yet... so I guess I'm still in the running. I'm not sure if I should be happy that the waitlist is moving 👍 ... or sad that obviously I haven't been pulled... :scared: 😱 🙁

They said waitlist pulling should continue from now to all thru June!

Still don't know if they call or e-mail or what to contact those who have been pulled??? anyone know?

I just spoke with Belinda at SA and she said they HAVE NOT started pulling people from the waitlist yet..Who did you speak with?? I called (210) 567 6080 and she answered

I vote that a 3rd person calls just to get a consensus. 🙂

Although I do have to say that it seems highly unlikely that waitlists would move this soon. Baylor isn't even done handing out acceptances and receiving confirmations from people who have been accepted.

And the wait continues........(sigh)

Evidently you weren't paying close enough attention then, because Dr. Wright mentioned it during the opening session. It wasn't something just I heard, it was something everyone was told. He just mentioned in passing that there were 330ish people (I don't remember the exact number, maybe 329?) that had the opportunity to come and that more people would be accepted later from the waitlist.

But thanks for questioning my honesty and calling me a liar, that was cool. Why does it sound "fishy"? What reason would I have for making something like that up?

I don't think your honesty was called into question. These are just different experiences and if anyone wants a straight answer, then call the UTSW admissions office directly, as was suggested earlier.

*sigh* More confusion! yea... I called that number as well, but then they transferred me to the Registrar's office. Then a girl answered (sounding very irritated, from I guess receiving so many calls) and said, "we cannot release anymore information about the alternate pool, only that several people from the alternate pool have already been selected and we will continue to pull people up to June."

Shocked by the first part, I asked to confirm, "So ppl have already started to be pulled from the alternate pool??"

then she said, sort of aggravated, "LIKE I SAID, several people from the alternate pool have already been selected and pulled..."

Hearing the aggravation in her voice, I just ended the phone call.

Sigh... I wish I could get Belinda on the phone! She's super sweet!

I hope you're right about ppl not being pulled yet! 🙄

I just called again and spoke to Belinda, and she confirmed that there has not been any movement of the alternate pool at UTSA. *whew*

Not sure why the registrar's office would say so, but I know now to go straight to Belinda as she is a good source! 😳

Awesome!! Now I can stop staring at my phone, praying it will ring!

I was not calling your honesty into question, as TrueBlue so gracefully pointed out. I was merely stating that if people are curious about the status of any school (including UTSW) then they should contact that school directly, rather than rely on second-hand information...whether correct or incorrect. I personally don't recall Dr. Wright saying what you stated on the board, but that doesn't mean he didn't.

i don't remember dr. wright talking about that at all...also, the only time dr. wright spoke on Friday was when he discussed the optional degrees we could pursue while students at UTSW

Maybe people have been selected but not yet contacted .

why not just contact belinda and tell her people from registrar's are telling you this and she's saying something else, what's the deal.
I would call but i didn't interview there.

but if you look at it, it seems unlikely they are pulling people of waitlist, it's not impossible but it's improbable on march 21.
b/c about 10 pages ago we had a list of how many people schools accepted per spots and I believe UTSA had accepted 215 for 200 slots, at last count. so it's UNLIKELY 15 people have already told them no so quickly.

I too hope the movement occurs as soon as possible.

thehopeful said:

Yea... i would've said something, but since belinda knows my name and voice, I didn't want to start stepping on any toes (i.e. registrar's office). Who knows, my letter of intent could "magically disappear" since the registrar's office takes care of that stuff!

disclaimer: of course I don't think they would do something crazy like that... but still...

back to waiting!!! :scared:

Heh. I am on glass 3 as we speak. I wish my phone had a chicken ring...I'm jealous!! 😉

Mine plays the Mexican hat dance 🙂

Back to my wine! 😀

PS -- Woodbridge Merlot (from the Robert Mondavi vineyard) is $5.37 at Wal-Mart.

YAY Wal-Mart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

😎

Are people notified by phone or mail if they are accepted from a waitlist? I guess I never thought we would literally be waiting by the phone. Do you verbally accept an offer? Please let me know.

This is my first post at studentdocter.net. Just seeing how everything works. I'm curious, has anyone on this entire thread, or does anyone know of anyone that been pushed off of a waitlist yet? I know that in one of the first posts in February, one person was contacted a few days after match day to enroll at UNTHSC. Has anyone else been removed from the waitlist?

I remember the post but doubt it's validity. All schools overbook the initial acceptances, knowing that some will decline. When I spoke with UNTHSC personally, I got the impression no movement from the waitlist had occurred yet.

Who really knows? They a tight lipped in Fort Worth. Other schools are providing more detail.

Are you calling me a liar?! 😱 I was the person who posted that I had been called a week after the match occured and it is true. Lynn herself called me to tell me that I was the first person she was calling, but like I mentioned before I declined to go somewhere else. Good luck to all of you.

Dude, don't take it personally. I don't think Ortho was calling you a liar. Sometimes we get conflicting responses from schools and the admissions offices are so secretive about everything that it's hard to gauge what is and isn't true.

Good luck!

Dude, u suck..haha j/p.... Now you can listen to our hearts sink as the rest of us wait impatiently on the TCOM waitlist. Maybe they have been secretly moving ppl off of the waitlist, but don't want us to know so that we get our hopes up...Anyways, aren't decisions from applicants due sometime in May? I called TCOM and they told me that most of the movement occurs then? *exact date?*

I say we make our own date in May. Hmmm....how about the 16th? It's the Monday after the 15th. That sounds nice and official. What do y'all fellow waitlisters think?

I personally know the guy y'all are talking about--TCOM did in fact call him, but he was satisfied with his #2 ranked school that he matched at.

*EDIT* MedicoTre, sorry, I didn't see you posted a response already!
