The "36 hours until deadline and still waiting on eLORs" thread.

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Never fear. Fear is the mind killer. Panic, though? A bit here and there never hurts.

I'm in the same boat and it's the worst.

I'm there too. Trying to decide if I should bug him today or have faith. It is "in progress"....

Kind of freaking out a little bit, too! Going to bug her today!

My last eLOR submitted Saturday night - and I was fretting then, I can only imagine how ya'll feel. I'd say if you haven't talked to them within the last 24 hours about the letter, call and remind them! As long as you're polite and say straight up that you're worried about them being able to complete the letter in time, it can only help you to bug them.

My last letter is in progress. But it's my boss, so I just reminded her. And I still haven't finished my personal statement yet, so I feel like I can't be too stressed that it's not done because I haven't even finished my stuff yet. I'm not too worried... Maybe I should be? lol

Now this is my kind of thread 👍👍👍👍👍

Still waiting on 2 out of 3! Granted, one of them I know is almost finished. But the third... ah, well, when I checked with her on Saturday she hadn't even started.

My fourth eLOR still says "new" 😱 although I bet he's using a word processing and will copy/paste but I just texted my professor to ask him if it'd be done tonight and he said yes.... he's my fourth eLOR so TECHNICALLY it isn't dire if he doesn't but I feel like he'd write the most moving eLOR out of the four I have listed.

One of my eLORs last year didn't submit until about 2 hours before the deadline. I was so nervous. I had reminded him and he'd already written me a handful of other recommendations and had written plenty of VMCAS eLORs.

My last evaluator submitted around 4 pm yesterday. I saw him at work today, and told him that he had almost given me a heart attack over the weekend. He said, "Why? I told you I would do it."

sigh. They just don't get it, do they? 🙁

Hope everyone still waiting has a happy little email from VMCAS tomorrow saying that their letters are submitted.

When I was applying for a gap year job, my professor submitted a letter 45 minutes before the midnight deadline. Unfortunately he submitted it before midnight in the wrong time zone, blocking me out of the program.

So... I am a huge advocate of bugging your prof. I bugged mine, but apparently forgot to emphasize the time zone :-(.

Got the email this morning! Phew!

Yay!! That's great! I got my last eLOR this afternoon, but I wasn't too nervous about it. Maybe because I just esubmitted my VMCAS application. Hehehe..:soexcited:

Due in 5 hours and still have a missing eLOR.............

4 hours and I'm still missing one. Thing is, I know she teaches morning classes...

I cannot imagine how freaked out you are! Hang in there and hope for the best. Assuming that you gave them plenty of notice, stayed on top of them about it and what not...its pretty crappy that they left you hanging...

Holy crap, you guys! Here's my story of the morning.

So I was pretty ticked. I had asked this evaluator 2 months in advance, and had been giving her frequent reminders about the deadline. I touched base with her after class last Thursday and then sent her an email on Saturday letting her know the exact time of the deadline.

Well, this morning I hopped in my car and drove straight to her office before classes because i was so panicked. I caught her, and she was extremely apologetic, saying she'd do it after classes.

Um, it's due at 11am (mountain time).

It's done now, but she ended up having to cancel her 9am class for me.

Sigh.

So sorry for the quite stressful morning but at least it's done. If she didn't finish I was going to tell you my lovely story about a friend who applied to Cornell and one of their evaluators never submitted but they still got waitlisted and was pretty close to getting in. Of course this is atypical and probably had something to do with the fact that his mom worked at the vet school.

So glad you got it! That is her own fault for putting things off so long...its very unprofessional.

Thanks JoAnna. I agree! And hedgiehog, your friend was lucky, but i'm guessing they also had a pretty solid application. Having your mom on such a position can't hurt, but it's friggin Cornell!

I just don't understand why someone would procrastinate that much. My LOR's told me it was not bad to do at all...

My last eLOR submitted the letter with an hour and a half to go! 😱 I about had heart failure. They're very busy, so I understood, but still. I was very on edge.

I promise to never do this when I am a veterinarian and someone asks me for a LOR.

Yeah I asked him back in July, see him almost every week because he helped me write my personal statement, texted him last week, last night, this morning - finally submitted at 10am (didn't find out til i got home just now).

My status says MAILED!!

:highfive::clap::laugh:

That's just... :scared: wrong!

That's what I thought. He told me he was up all night writing it. Then he proceeded to tell me he didn't get it in on time (even though I got the email I still freaked out). I only asked three people so without his all my applications would have been incomplete.

A quick call probably wouldn't hurt.... I would have killed my ELORs.

I totally wanted to. And I kept reminding him and he was well aware of the deadline, too aware if I may say so.

I promise to never do this when I am a veterinarian and someone asks me for a LOR.

The only one that got submitted decently early was from the practicing DVM.

One of my eLORs submitted at 1AM on Monday night. I started to get slightly neurotic and pushy towards the end so I sent him an email apologizing and thanking him again for the recommendation. He responded saying something along the lines of, "sometimes he too acts like a student and waits until the last minute!" Considering this is probably the first thing that I've ever completed well in advance in my life, I had to laugh a little bit!
