****The Official Columbia Class of 2021 Interview/Acceptance Thread****

I wouldn't recommend preparing yourself so far in advance for a lot of the stuff we are covering D1. You'll be able to manage it all but you honestly might be wasting your time doing it a year ahead of time. The first few months were really well tailored for people coming from all different academic backgrounds - they made the first set of exams reasonable and the Biochemistry block helped get everyone on the same playing field for further exams.

That being said, if anything, I would get a head start on Anatomy and maybe Histology. For Anatomy you could get the Netter's flashcard set and just start familiarizing yourself with the terminology and if you memorize those cards you will have a HUGE advantage going into next fall. We have to know pretty much all of the information within the entire set by the end of the first semester (it's used as a supplemental information source for the course). For Histo I'm not sure how you should prepare, but it was our hardest exam so far this semester imo (coming from someone who did not have it in college).

Sweet, exactly what I was looking for. Thanks. We could use some D1s giving us class tips so we can smoke the MDs 😉

Are they still giving out interviews? 🙁 My status hasn't changed on the portal since 7/1 which is when I submitted.. but I sent in my DAT in early November

Nothing yet but let's all stay hopeful

Today during the interview they said it's normal to not hear anything. The person who interviewed you may not have just met with the adcom. Expect to hear back in 2 or 3rd week of January

Ok thank you... I'm just thinking about the student in my group who got accepted 1 week after the interview. Must have been an amazing candidate. (See earlier in thread)

Also, keeping in mind the fact that we'll probably find out on a Friday.

Again, acceptance date means nothing. You'll be ok in the end I feel 🙂

I also am really hoping for an acceptance (interviewed Dec 2nd), and am really dreading the idea of putting a deposit down on another school before I hear back. Also, Columbia doesn't require the background check as my other options do, so it seems silly to pay for it when it might be a waste. How long is too long to wait before committing to a backup option and signing up for the background check?

I'm not certain how long is "too long" to wait. But do keep in mind that with the holidays coming up, there's a chance of mild delays when mailing the deposit.

I hope you get accepted to Columbia soon though so that won't even be a concern

Just got my interview invite a few days ago. Interviewing late January. Any interview tips? Advice on how to prep? What to expect? Etc.

First of all, congrats!! That's awesome! I'd say make certain you have a good grasp on how you'll get from your hotel to the school. Traffic is insane, so plan plenty of time in advance. Or if you're comfortable with public transportation (which is what I did). Take advantage of the fabulous breakfast and lunch they offer! No shame! Definitely warm up to the other interviewees. It seems like Columbia attracts awesome, genuine people. (I explored the city with a few of the other applicants, and we still chat via GroupMe).

I know it's easier said than done, but try to relax! An interview means that your stats are good enough. Now they just want to see that you're a likable person. What's helped calm my nerves is knowing that they aren't looking for reasons to reject us. They're looking for any reason why they should take us in!

But if you want something tangible to practice, I'd say know your answer to "Why Columbia" and "Why me". Other than that, you'll do great! It'll be a laid back conversation and you'll laugh about how stressed you were about it. Best of luck my friend and happy holidays!

I interviewed at Nova and BU, 2 extremely stereotypically "relaxed" interviews when looking at feedback from SDN. If I could rank them on a scale of 1-10 with respects to Columbia, BU would have been a 7/10 stress level, Nova would have been a 4/10 stress level, and Columbia would be a 1.5/10 stress level.

I had fantastic experiences and they were relatively stress free at Nova and BU, but comparing them to Columbia is a whole 'nother ball game. I'm not saying they were stressful by any means, I had a fantastic experience at all 3. I'm just showing how stress free Columbia was compared to the others. I promise you, just relax and take it easy. You'll do great. Just know your application and why Columbia.

Did anyone receive any correspondence from columbia once they mailed their check? I know my envelope was received, but I am yet to hear anything since....

Trying to decide if it's worth going to or not. Thoughts anyone?
I think its definitely worth going to. I am going to Rutgers next fall, but I also interviewed at Columbia. Rutgers is definitely a great program, but Columbia really was an amazing interview experience, they have been spending more time in clinics now (being renovated) and it was cheaper than several other schools I interviewed at. The interview at Columbia was definitely the most impressive school, but its still more expensive than Rutgers. The environment in Columbia was so amazing (H/P/F), student felt they had TOO many study resources, the faculty treat students as colleagues rather than students (although Rutgers does as well).

Also for those who paid the deposit, just triple checking that we don't have to do the background check? The Certiphi people are spamming my email but I don't want to pay $$$ if I don't have to.
Columbia wasn't on the list. It might be from other schools that accepted you?
