*** The Official LECOM Dental Class of 2018 Interview/Acceptance Thread ***

Did u choose to Interview in april? Or they just send u invite for that month? I am just tring to figure out their process? Since I applied late I am very nervous.
They told me that it would be in April. I applied late October so I'm guessing that's why it took so long for them to get back to me.

I emailed the school what happened at like 3am in the morning and they immediately called me at 8:15 in the morning. They were very nice and allowed me to reschedule my interview in exactly a week from my original time. They gave me 4 times to pick and I picked the earliest one.

Well.. in all honesty, LECOM is my last choice and is to many others. Though there might be lots of issues, my #1 is that it will be extremely difficult to specialize.
Didnt know about that. Ill check if its true, if it is thats gonna suck. I want to keep the option of specializing open in case I find it attractive later on.

Disclaimer: I've been REJECTED by lecom so my opinion might be biased

I was one of the biggest supporters of lecom until I went to the interview, after that I left and I said I will never comeback to this place ever. And here are the reasons:

1. Location, the area (Bradenton,FL) is very undeveloped, which means fewer patients, and the lack of activities to do.

2. PBL, I think pbl is a great thing but the way they are implementing it is very questionable.

3. The Faculty, which I did not meet at the interview.

4. The price tag, which is very overpriced compared to the service they are providing. (and I'm going to an expensive school, but it is worth it)

5. The Dean, I do not agree with his approach or views, he thinks everyone is wrong and he is the Messiah of Dentistry.

6. The interview process, it was the very uncomfortable you get their at 7:45am the earliest between all schools, then you get into a 2 hour lecture of how they do not give lectures. And the cherry on top was the interview itself where you have 6 students meeting 2 faculty member for 30 minutes. and above all that the lunch was terrible.

7. Unhappy students, the girl who was in charge of the tour said "I CAN'T WAIT TO GET OUT OF THIS PLACE" and she was only a D2, same response from other students but they were more subtle about it.

8. The Facilities, while they do have very nice and new equipment, the building felt so depressive, the emptiness and bland colors made me feel like I'm in an insane asylum.

9. Rude staff, while I was applying the did not process my application and I had to call them to do so, then after the processing they sent me a long list of requirements that I've already done all but the did not bother to check the application, and at the interview the young lady who was in charge of the interview (forgot her name) asked as if we have any questions so I asked as if we have any questions so asked if they do take the HSPS, she answred with some serious attitude and said "Huh... yeah, if you care about money!!!" (bitch please I'm paying you $ 360,000 of course I care about my debt)

10. 4th year, I did not like that half of the class have move to an even more terrible place to do year 4.

I apologize from you LECOM students, but as you see these are just personal opinions, and I'm that guy who just doesn't know how to shut the F up.
Aw man sounds awful. Fortunately they allowed me to reschedule my interview date so Ill be able to confirm the validity of what you say (no offense but this is the internet, where people lie for no reason and sometimes exaggerate just to be dramatic). If youre right and it is a horrible place to spend 4 years then I'll probably feel really reluctant when I put down my deposit if I get accepted. Keep in mind, this school might be my last chance for this cycle (waitlisted at another school) so they will have to do a ton of bad things to make me even consider declining an acceptance.

Random question, but how expensive is it to live there?

I live in a studio/one bedroom for $651 at the Springs, a one bed was 750-850 I think. A few people have houses and condos for about 1200 for two people (nice places). You can just do apartment searches in Bradenton/Lakewood Ranch and get a more current estimate. Popular places are Lost Creek (hard to get into since they have a student maximum), colonial grand, yacht club, carlton arms, the springs at braden river, so check those out. Food isn't expensive, I go to walmart since Publix (main chain grocery store) is pricy unless you get buy one get one free. Gas about 3.50 for mid grade.

Hey, does anyone know, after the interview, what is the acceptance rate of lecom? I had my interview this week. I thought everyone in my group were great. I don't know what they look for? I was just wondering, how many students will they select per group or per day? There has to be some kind of system. By the way, I love lecom. I would love to go there. They have different approach to education and i think thats how education should be.

The OOS acceptance rate is 47% I believe.

Alright, who else is heading to Florida tomorrow??? Haha

Yeah I have an early flight so I gotta be up in like 5 hours. Bright side I get a full day to myself before the interview

I'm not leaving super early. Flight leaves at 11 then a nice little drive to Bradenton.

Just finished my interview there today. Very nice school and people. PBL seems like something I'd really like. They said if I get in I'll hear from them on feb 3 or a few days after.

I was in the same group and completely echo the above sentiments, if anyone cares 😉. Quite frankly, I don't understand why this school catches so much flak.

Just withdrew my acceptance from LECOM. Unfortunately, I actually really liked the school, but the restriction on specializing is not very attractive. Good luck!

For everyone that has been accepted and will be attending LECOM in the fall just to make you aware there is a LECOM dental school class of 2018 facebook group for all that are interested. I'm sure it will be very helpful come time to start classes.

Howdy!
I think its bc of pbl. People tend to be biased against non traditional things. Until the inargural class graduates or ranks high on the board exams, there will always be ppl in doubt about lecom and pbl.

I agree, but to be frank I personally think the PBL is one of the most atttactive parts of the program.

Is the waitlist picked randomly or is there a specific order?

me too. what group were u in? I mean interviewing group?

I believe group A. I was the first group to interview! AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! The process was brutal but it is officially over. I can breathe now

congrats. I was in group A as well. I am so stressed out. I don't know if i am wait listed or rejected. I am definitely not accepted because i didn't receive an email.

Def. keep up communication. Sent my letter of intent/interest last week and don don don I got the acceptance this week. My letter contained my current endeavors (shadowing/volunteering/school/work) and how I was a strong candidate for LECOM's program.

thanks. who did you send letter of intent to? your interviewers or basic email.

the basic email. Which should be received by Jesse whom will attach it into your file

Have an interview at LECOM in 2 more weeks and have been accepted somewhere a little bit more expensive than I would like, but a good school nonetheless. However, the location of the school could be better.

Should I go to the LECOM interview in 2 weeks?
Thanks, yawl.

Hard to say without knowing what acceptance are you sitting on, your learning style, career goals, etc.

Lol holy****, those SOBs are still doing interviews despite like 100 waitlisted... So many turn downs it seems.

Are rejections and waitlists the only things that are mailed? do people who get accepted get emailed immediately?

They told me that acceptances are emailed, and waitlist/rejection are via snail mail.

Waitlisted at LECOM, got the letter today.

Better than a rejection!
A distinction without a difference. Anyways I'm confident w/ the improvements I'm working on now next cycle will have better results.

hang in there dude... I'm sure you'll get off the WL. Also you have indiana....
Indiana? I think you mean UNLV, that's my 4th & last interview, which btw ended earlier today. They made it seem like getting in was still possible but knowing what I know I don't buy it.

Interesting. I'm heading that way Thursday.

Hi everyone, specially current students.

I know this is a fairly new school and that some information might not be available yet but I was wondering if anyone could give me some info regarding the clinicals at LECOM. Will we be taught all aspects of dentistry (crown, root canal, bridges etc) or are all the clinicals geared towards underprivileged patients (filling, extraction, denture etc).

I am very excited to be accepted here and was very impressed with the school at my interview but I also want to be a competent dentist with all the skills available once I get out.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
