***The Official Rutgers School of Dental Medicine Class of 2024 Interview/Acceptance Thread***

Is Rutgers' curriculum block system? If not, do the final exams test everything taught in the course/term? In other words; are the final exams cumulative?

Courses work like most university courses - unit exams are given after each unit, and in many courses, there is a cumulative final.

What do i do next regarding financial aid. I have completed all requirements (MPN, Entrance Counseling etc..) And not sure what to do now. DO i have to do anything now or will they contact me later on?

Sign onto your myRutgers account and everything under financial aid section should be checked. I believe after that we have to apply for grad plus/private loans to cover the remaining cost. I’m unsure of how much more we’ll need from other loans though.

Does anyone know when all of our files and immunizations need to be in by. Are they all due y July 1?

Also is that a hard deadline? If i dont have everything by july 1 is my offer rescinded just like that?

im mostly concerned about my immunizations as they take time. especially with all of this madness going on in the world

It's a soft deadline, they definitely won't rescind your offer. Give them a heads up that you're working on it - say you're missing vaccination X but you have an appointment on date Y to take care of it. Just get them in when you can. If you show up to school and still don't have them and haven't told them anything, then you'll start running into problems. Many classmates tested negative for HepB immunity the summer before, which takes 3 injections over a couple months to regain, yet it was fine.

You can do a Grad PLUS loan through the government at studentaid.gov or use a private loan company. It's all in the financial aid packet we got at our interview
is a grad plus loan the loan that everybody generally uses for dental school if not doing private?

Has anyone in this years entering class taken out loans yet or been in contact with Rutgers regarding the aid? Do they get in touch with us after our fafsa was filed succesfully?

I have! They don’t get in touch with you, they just update your myRutgers portal. If you have questions you can email them at [email protected] and they will call you since they’re working from home. Also, to answer your above post, yes, the grad plus loan is the loan people generally use if they’re not using private loans

Are there any previous students here that we’re out of state and received in-state tuition the second year? What kind of documentation do you need in order to be considered for in-state tuition?

Question because I'm a little worried... does anyone know if an acceptance is contingent upon "satisfactory completion"... after transferring all classes to online its been really hard to keep up in my Biochemistry class and I'm worried about my grade. Does anyone have experience with getting a B-/C+ in Biochem and would that affect my chances?

DM me, I’ll set you up with the student government president. She knows all about it.

Are you already accepted? B-/C+ doesn’t affect your acceptance, relax! Just don’t fail or drop the course.

Thanks! I'm just worried about that C+ will be not satisfactory. But hopefully, I ace the final and get a B-... 🙂

I'm looking for a male roommate who is interested in finding a place within walking distance of RSDM. PM me.

Sorry I meant do they offer any scholarships, and if so how much?

a handful of students get alumni scholarships at the end of the year ranging from $100-$1000. It depends on academic performance, need, involvement, and background. The #1 each year gets some money, maybe like 1000-5000, I’m not sure. Besides those 10 people or so, everyone else gets nothing.

Has anyone received follow up emails about the orientation/housing/whether the fall semester actually happens and etc?
I contacted the office last week but received nothing yet.

they’ll contact you when they’re ready. The school is dealing with a lot of issues right now, and incoming D1s are near the bottom of the list of priorities.

Thank you! I'm also waiting for this information so this is very helpful 🙂

I am currently taking biochem and am wondering what were to happen if i fail? Would my acceptance be rescinded?

Its the only class i need to graduate but if i do fail i can always just take another science course the first semester of the summer. I really regret taking biochem as my professor has been very tough during this corona pandemic and has not been understanding at all. But am nervous that if i fail my acceptance will be rescinded. Does anybody know.

Again if i do fail i can always just take a science in my first summer semester and can still graduate before matricualting

Is the school dealing with issues regarding the coronavirus or other things?

Do not fail. Get a tutor. Go on a coffee binge. You must not fail. Don't even consider it a possibility.

Wow LOL I completely feel you. I'm in the same boat with biochem and classes going online. It's been... TOUGH.

Do we do anything now or do we just wait for them to contact us regarding anything. It says all my financial aid is submitted. Do we do anything now? Register for classes? Anything?

theres no such thing as registering for classes. You all have the exact same schedule

Thank you I just checked it. Did you get a chance to choose a studio/single bedroom? The only options I got were two and three bedrooms.

BTW, what are some options for off-campus housing? Any suggestion (on-campus vs off-campus for the first year)?

I’ve never heard of a D1 having a single. Usually only D3s and D4s can get one.

for Off-campus housing options, please see my previous detailed posts about it. If you can find a roomie,a close off-campus spot can be a good idea. 180 always seemed fine to me (someone who never lived there), but people who live there seem annoyed with it at times.

Same options for me. I think I read that studio/singles were given to upperclassmen first.
