Okay, I'll admit that when shemarty first came onto the SDN scene I was totally overwhelmed with her hyper-organization of all these threads and reminded me why pre-meds can freak me out.

BUT...

She's totally awesome! And nice! And friendly! And the organization of all this makes everything way way way easier.

You know, I've actually started pronouncing it she-marty because everybody else has been saying it that way.

Here's the story:

Back in middle school I was talking to a friend, Julie, on AIM...

(My first name's Mary. I'm probably one of the least anonymous people on SDN, maybe with the exception of RPedigo, who's revealing his *last* name, haha, so I don't really care if people know my first name at this point.)

Anyway, she was trying to type "Mary!!" but it came out "Marty!"

So I replied "Julius!" And for some reason that became an inside joke.

So when it was time to make a new screename, back in high school, she suggested "shemarty" because I'm a girl, so she-marty, but also because it sounds like "smarty" and... I dunno, I was smart too? 🙄

So I had intended for it to be pronounced shmarty, but the E has always been there, so it's confusing.

Anyway, now that we have *this thread*, I can say once and for all that "shemarty" only has 2 syllables 😀

Haha you'd be surprised at how much your name comes up in everyday conversation among people who have no idea who you actually are. lol. Thus was my revelation when talking to 2 of my friends also applying to medical school.

Me: Yea I'm on like SDN like....24 hours a day.
Friend A: Yea me too, I've actually met some people from SDN in real life!
Friend B: You guys actually know people from an internet forum by screename?
Me: Yea, some people from SDN are pretty famous.
Friend B: like who?

That would be *insane.* I can just barely manage the 364 students in the undergrad bio lab class that I'm the admin person for. 40,000 applicants!? 😱

At my WashU interview, a fellow interviewee suddenly realized that I was shemarty and said that she and her premed friends have talked about me before.

I'm starting to get kinda paranoid about what people are saying about me, and I wonder if people are generating ideas about what they think I'm like in real life...
