The Official Touro Class of 2020 Interview/Acceptance Thread

I noticed that there were quite a few people who said they wouldn't be taking a seat or canceled there interviews. If there are people still stalking this thread that did that, could you say why exactly?

I noticed that a common theme was the lack of facilities, but is that the only reason? I have an interview on Wednesday and I haven't gotten an interview anywhere else but I have heard that you should be apprehensive about first year programs so I'm seriously conflicted about what I should do. If I have to reapply I'll probably be taking a year to raise my GPA in a master's program before even completing another application because I don't think my application has changed enough yet.

Also for those of you who will be going if accepted what are your reasons?

GPA: 3.28
DAT: 21 AA, 20 Science (18 Biology, 21 Gen. Chem, 25 Organic), 21 PAT

So it's been about 4 days since I sent admissions that email about the confusion over the varieties of accreditation emails that were sent out and I havnt recieved a response yet. I'm out of the country for the week and can't make any long distance phone calls and I believe sending another email would go unnoticed since the initial one never got answered. If anyone is still curious about why two diff. Accreditation emails were sent out, can you call admissions and simply find out what the significance of it is and then let us know what they said.

I cancelled my interview because I was accepted elsewhere at a more established school. I think Touro will be a fine dental program, but I personally didn't want to deal with the potential headaches of being in the inaugural class of a brand new program.

If you get accepted, go. I wouldn't wait 2 more years. Just expect that there will be growing pains for a new dental school, but focus on getting your diploma, work hard once you get out, and you'll be on same level playing field as any other dental graduate.

I heard that by middle of April, we will have results: Accepted or Not Accepted.

I still don't know about the truth about the potential of acceptances based on different emails sent out.

I'm sure they will wait list also considering some students will not take their seat

What would you do? Full ride Touro or Columbia

I called today to ask about accreditation and they told me in the next week or two it should be finalized and they will be sending out acceptances around April 15.

Did u ask about that email?

I would think those that interviewed received that opening paragraph. None of us know how their email process works, might be best to just sit back and wait.

I would think those that interviewed received that opening paragraph. If anyone interviewed and didn't have that paragraph it was most likely an error. Makes no sense that they'd insinuate an acceptance, but that's just me
I was in the first group of interview, and i didnt have that paragraph.

I was at the first interview and DID get that extra paragraph, hope it helps!

I called them this morning about that email with opening paragraph. They said "if you have that opening paragraph, that means you are a strong candidate for our inaugural class. We just can't send anything official yet." She also said that they will reevaluate everyone they interviewed before sending out acceptance/rejection which will be around mid April since they are expecting to receive the result of accreditation by early April.

For those that received those recent interviews, what are your interview dates?
I called back and scheduled for March 30th which was the first available date. There were several others in early April.

Could someone specify when available interview dates are? I don't want to call and get stuck, but I'm taking some classes right now so I need to figure out which days are best to miss

Don't worry so much about that, I scheduled mine April 11. They didn't seem to be offended that it's a few weeks away. They only interview Monday and Wednesday. I'm in the same position as you lol, all my exams are in the next two weeks.

Could you please share stats( BCP, science, overall, DAT (AA/TS/PAT))? Residency? Thanks.

Hi, cool ! is an under statement ! . . . . Will you attend if accepted?
Before I answer, what would be your top choice? Since you NY resident if you got into Stony brook would you even consider anywhere else? Just wondering.. I have no acceptances yet. But I hear Stony Brook is very good. But not that many people know about the program from what I hear

what is the "opening paragraph" you guys are talking about?

I also came back from interview today.
Campus facility is of course nothing more than just a building that obviously needs renovation because it's an old IBM building.
It can probably use good buffing and polishing, and it will be good to go.

As far as acceptances are concerned, one of the presenters told us that the accreditation is pending and will likely be done with by around april 15th, so acceptances will not roll out until then.

Interview was pretty relaxed, I could have felt that way because I had an interviewer who was very calm and was a good listener. I tend to digress a little or daydream when the interviewer doesn't seem to be interested or not really listening, but my interviewer was very attentive and I was able to not think about "what will be on lunch"

My interviewer also said "I will be strongly advocating for you at the adcom meeting" This totally could have been said out of courtesy, but hey, I feel much better now!

If i were to be accepted to stony brook, I would definitely go there than any other school in the world... That school is perfect for NY resident. Low tuition, low cost of living in that area, the school is well funded, the dental clinic has patients, 40 seats for the dental class, so if you really wanted to get tips and tricks about clinical techniques from prof's, they will be available.....

Touro has a lot of potential too, but compared to stony brook, it is not proven, and tuition and cost of living around there will end up leaving a student with double $$ in debt vs. Stony brook debt..... and at the end of the day, we will all be getting the same paper, DDS or DMD.

ok now your turn.

When I called yesterday the first available was April 6th, so that's when I'll be interviewing. Seems there are only 2 hotels that are relatively close to the school - any suggestions on which is better?

Yes I agree, if I were to get into Stony Brook there would be no doubt that I would get there. It is ridiculously competitive and like you said low tuition and great stats. If only we would at least get an interview! They are just too good

Just called them and asked if it was advantageous to schedule as early as possible since the site says "admissions decisions will be made on a rolling basis" and he told me no it's fine. So I got the 11th.

Also curious about what's the best place to stay and whether it would be good to rent a car or not

See you there!

airbnb. found a couple of really nice place for under $70.

Does the fact that it's a Jewish school come into play in the interview at all or no?

Does the fact that it's a Jewish school come into play in the interview at all or no?

the founder of the school was Jewish but his vision was to spread wealth and knowledge to Jewish and even non-Jewish society.
So the short answer to your question is no.

so people who got the first paragraph is accepted and who didn't got rejected?

No one is accepted or rejected yet, at least not until accreditation is official. The extra paragraph probably just means what it sounds like, touro is giving those students a hint that they are really interested.

I highly doubt they will reject anyone that has been interviewed before the first day of class, those interviewed will probably be kept as backup for those that received the first round of acceptances/2nd round/etc.
