The Official Touro Class of 2020 Interview/Acceptance Thread

I noticed that there were quite a few people who said they wouldn't be taking a seat or canceled there interviews. If there are people still stalking this thread that did that, could you say why exactly?

I noticed that a common theme was the lack of facilities, but is that the only reason? I have an interview on Wednesday and I haven't gotten an interview anywhere else but I have heard that you should be apprehensive about first year programs so I'm seriously conflicted about what I should do. If I have to reapply I'll probably be taking a year to raise my GPA in a master's program before even completing another application because I don't think my application has changed enough yet.

Also for those of you who will be going if accepted what are your reasons?

GPA: 3.28
DAT: 21 AA, 20 Science (18 Biology, 21 Gen. Chem, 25 Organic), 21 PAT

Initially I really like the idea of forming part of an inaugural class, the idea of being there and help to create a name for the school really attracted me. However, after interviewing, I found it hard to let go of something that's sure to something that is uncertain. Although Touro has potential to be a great school -the building is top of the line, the technology they'll be using is the latest, the curriculum seems very challenging, and the professors, who are coming from a bunch of places, are very committed to making it a great program- it was very hard to imagine the future as there was nothing in the building. Just construction going on. The interview experience did not compare to other places I have interviewed at. It also doesn't help that there was a lot of disorganization, professors not showing to interviews etc. In my case, the reason why I wouldn't take the seat is because I recently got accepted somewhere else and like I said earlier, I find it very hard to let go of something that's certain to something I do not know anything about.

however, if you didn't have any other acceptanecs, wouldn't it be a pretty tough to decide to attend touro this year VS wait 1.5 years for other school, which is not guaranteed.
Even with uncertainties you mentioned, I think touro really has the potential and people who's going to run them are not right out of dental school or anything. They've been with established institutions with proven track records, which is probably why they were recruited.

If I have no other acceptances, I'd definitely go to touro.
If I have other acceptances but other school costs significantly more than touro, then I would attend touro in that case as well.

I totally believe Touro has the potential to become something big. I was strongly considering going there even with other acceptances. But, after interviewing I have doubt and lots of questions.

What are your doubts?

It went ok. I got mixed messages from the interviewer. I think they will, but no till end of April even maybe mid May

The presenter on my interview day made it sound like he's oretty sure it's going to be around 15th of april. And also, if coda approved, state usually approves it no problem. Hopefully we will hear something soon

I received an invitation to interview today and scheduled it for April 6. Really skeptical about the lack of information about the school but this is my only interview so I feel like I would be dumb not to go.
3.2 sGPA/3.4 oGPA 19/19 AA/TS

Part of me just wants to re-apply but we shall see.

Go for it! If this is your only chance for this cycle, take advantage of it! Congrats! If you don't mind, when did you submit your application?

you paid the money to apply, so it WOULD be dumb not to go. Plus, noone has gotten in yet, so it's not like you have nil chance of getting in like at other schools, so you should definitely go. Your numbers look good as well.
There's really not much to see when you go there, but empty building and medical campus that you will not visit that often, unless you are taking gross anatomy, but at least the interview day is only about 4 hours long and you won't be bored to death like at some other interviews that last about 6 hours.

I liked the surrounding suburban area that was about 10 minutes away. Medical campus was pretty nice, but other than that, there's really not much out there. (from what I saw)
Old IBM building looks cool, but obviously needs some renovation to look modern again.

Good luck on the interview. Out of all the interviews I had, this was the most relaxing one.

My app to Touro? It was mailed out on 1/15!

Just got an interview invite today... But I will be declining the interview. Already committed to one of my schools 🙂

Did you guys bring anything to the interview? Any files, notebook for questions, etc.

They didn't give me days. I need to call and schedule but it would be on a weekday I believe.

Invitation for interview on March 22nd. Coming from Canada, so April 13 was the one that worked best for me. When I went to schedule, they had spots open March 28, April 3, 6, 11 and 13

you don't really need anything unless you like taking notes. They give you a generic presentation about the program, nothing that you HAVE to write down.
You will get on the shuttle van for campus tour and you have to get in and out a few times, so make sure your pants and jackets are not too tight.....

I'm a millennial. I don't own anything that isn't tight

Anyone that is interviewing on April 6th and will be there on the 5th.... wanna grab dinner or a drink or something? I'll be there all day on the 5th and don't want to be incredibly bored.

Creepy...

If you like Mexican food I found a really good place about a mile south of the school. Azteca Paradise Restaurant

I'm happy you have an interview. That's great. I don't understand what the deal is with my situation. I applied 1/7 and I've yet to hear from them.

So have they officially been accredited? And if so when can we start hearing about decisions?

I'm like 30 min away, driving. Perfect school for me to commute !!! a lot of $savings !

So all you're basing your school choice on is how close it is to your current location? Haha wonderful standards
based on your response, I think you are not mature yet. . . . maybe next year I will respond to you after you get some life experience . . . go use your hands for something useful. . .

good luck

Haha if you're that worried about debt why not go to your not one, but two available state schools?

So has anyone who has interviewed since mid-March heard anything back from them? I haven't received any correspondence, even after sending my thank you email.

Given the school you're attending, you don't have much room to be talking **** about standards.

Feralis, I really hope you would find peace with whatever is going on in your life. I didn't use your note all the way, but I had lots of respect for you for being able to put together a note of that caliber. Seeing some of your remarks on the forum lately, I realize that you have a lot of growing up to do as a person. Kudos on your stellar DAT, and your acceptance to your choice of school, but bashing other people for trying to get into the school that you allegedly got a full scholarship ride to doesn't really get you any farther. Plus, irregardless of motive or lack thereof, your full ride scholarship ride story was briefly mentioned by the admissions person who read SDN post. Guess what he said? He said that this is another reason why people shouldn't read everything on SDN and if they do, do it with a grain of salt. I am not trying to bring this subject back up, but seems like you are stirring up the pot here quite a bit lately and I honestly don't understand why you are behaving this way. What do you have against Touro?

Touro is a brand new school, so yeah, it will have its kinks and first year students will be guinea pigs. But all other new-ish dental schools were once brand new and they are doing all fine in terms of passing rate, etc.

I hope you will find something better to do than boosting your ego by bashing Touro and people who wish to go there.

P.S. I know you didn't bash Touro this time, I am referring to your previous posts that you did since I noticed you said something derogatory about someone else's school again for no reason.

I didn't send a note in, but I haven't heard anything either. I believe we will hear something after 4.15 because that's when they are supposed to get accreditation.

Yeah, I figured the April 15 date would probably be the next time we hear from them. But, I do remember one of the professors saying something about how it may be the end of the month or early May before they hear back from the state. Do you (or anyone else) remember hearing that too?
