I'm thinking about it... I spent part of the morning on the phone asking every question I could think of about the school and now I'm reading the old class threads to find out more about Baylor. I'm driving to Houston on the 26th to take a second look at Baylor and talk to the finaid department.

In all honesty, my main concerns (about the hospitals and nature of the class atmosphere) were addressed on the phone and I'm feeling better about Baylor. For me, I'm super interested in underserved/international health care and Baylor has a badass program for that (why I loved them in the first place). Ugh. It will be a really hard decision for me.

In true premed form, I have a spreadsheet going :meanie:

I had a friend in college (Cantonese) who said he was accused of being too white. Not that I could tell, honestly - except even knowing no Chinese, I knew he spoke like a 3 yr old. It was all broken and didn't flow well with lots of "uhs" as he tried to think of words :laugh:

I have no room to talk though. I only know how to order a Guinness in Irish (and a few strategic curse words)

I'm sorry "ww" is not really a PC term, what I mean by that is not American born Asians per se, but Asians who go out of their way to drop and despise their heritage and embrace the Western culture in every shape and form possible, for the sole purpose of being accepted by said culture and society.

It would be like a cat deciding that it doesn't like being a cat and wants to be a dog, and makes the conscious effort to bark like a dog, scratch itself like a dog, eat like a dog, etc etc, and also make fun of all cats and the cat way of life in order to get in good with the dogs.

Usually these people end up partially hating themselves, and end up having identity issues and become very weird... Or they live in their fantasy world forever, never knowing what it's like to just be themselves, but ignorance is bliss so oh wellity well.

I personally find them ludicrous, and often times they are very amusing (it would be funny to see a cat act like a dog). Basically what I was tryign to say is that this Chinese guy wasn't trying to act a certain way, his hotness was so incredible that it just apparently transcended all ethnical borders, which doesn't happen very often for the Asian male in this day in age.

Can someone direct me to any "UTSW vs. Baylor" threads? Or any opinions on the schools for someone hold both acceptances (can't really go wrong).

I know this might irritate people, sorry in advance.

I saw that you got into UTSW recently... did you get into Baylor also?

And did you turn down your spot at UTMB?

Got into Baylor in mid-Jan, UTSW off waitlist, turned down my UTMB spot
 
Hrm. I remember one person (from A&M) posting news of a UTH letter. Did anyone on here receive this letter? I'm home, can't check my box, and am too chicken to email Tiffany Reyes.

Just curious.

I got the letter from UTH last week saying I was on the waitlist.

I got one last week too. Seems like the waitlist is really small. I wonder if they think they will have to use it at all 🙁

I'm sure there will be at least some movement once UTSW starts giving out waitlist acceptances. They (UTH included) have to be careful this year with how many acceptances they give out, so I'm sure they erred on the side of caution (fewer) and plan to pull from the WL. In case something they didn't anticipate happens (since this year is different), they won't have overenrolled.

My theory, anyway.

Are you in the top 20% or 25% on UTSW's waitlist? If 20%, now we have top 10% top 20%, top 25%, top 1/3, mid 1/3, and bottom 1/3?

Yes, but I know for certain that there are top 10%, 25%, top/mid/bot 1/3. But my sample size is small. There could be top 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, top 1/3, mid 1/3, and bottom 1/3 for all we know.

I got a serious surprise when I re-watched the WWI sequence of Blackadder and realized that Leftentant George is, in fact, House. More dissimilar characters can't be imagined.

Oh yeah - but I love Black Adder sooooo much. That show is hilarious. There was another show he was on in the 80s that was kind of like Monty Python - I forget the name but I've been searching for it on DVD in the states and no luck so far.

I'm really thinking about investing in a multiregion DVD player.

id have posted this in the class thread but it looks dead and ana and aggie are in here so i need to resolve some paranoia issues

for uth we only had to send in the weekend welcome thing, the 2nd yr advisor thing, the scholarship form, and the ethics pledge agreement form right? Ya there's the housing and change of address but I'm talking about required forms... No deposit check right?

Also do i need to send in transcripts if I'm not in school? (the tmdsas ones were the latest ones)
 
Also on the supplemental form for financial aid it asks for student ID#... whre we find that out?

No deposit. No worries 😀

But yes, you need to send all your transcripts directly to Houston. But I'm only 90% sure on that so you may want to email them.

Only the ethical pledge was mandatory. At least that is what I thought.

Don't forget your immunizations and background check. but those aren't due for a while. I think you do need to send transcripts because it said to send official ones from all institutions you listed in your application and since your application. Oh, and do your white coat sometime too 🙂 I'm not sending mine in until I've gone down to try them on though and I have to manage to get to Houston on a weekday because they bookstore is closed weekends so it will probably be welcome weekend until I get to it. 🙂 And as far as I know there is no deposit check.

well yeah welcome weekend and ms2 things aren't mandatory but your ms2 person will give you things and advice, and welcome weekend just sounds like a great way to get plugged into the school socially. and immunizations have to be in by july 9 i think, and whitecoat order form by the 30th of june

Can you just get serum antibody tests at any doctor's office? I don't really want to get immunized again but my record was lost. 🙁

i am personally not taking any chances because nothing ever fits me the normal way. but i'm not really sure how they fit. and i think there are different styles for girls and guys but i've heard some girls don't like the girl ones and want guy ones. i'm just going to suck it up and get to houston someday 🙂

yeah you can get titers for measles mumps and rubella. and for hep b if you've had it. if i were you i'd just get the diptheria-tetanus booster if you haven't had one in recent memory since you have to have one every 10 years. and if you've had the chicken pox you don't have to worry about that. (i never had the chicken pox so i just got the vaccine in high school) I have no idea where you actually go get the titers done though. i'm sure your drs office can just order them up 🙂

I had a horrible case of chickenpox... I'm actually glad of that now :laugh:
