can anyone find the link to TMDSAS course descriptions? I want to know whether they count neuroscience as a biology yet or not and I can't find it on their page. are the "other science" courses counted in the science GPA?

ok so here's a weird question.. as part of my graduate curriculum I have to take this same course every semester (BMS 5100 - biomedical studies seminar). when it asks "Last time taken?" do I put N on there or Y? I mean I took the class again, but it's not like I retook it because I did poorly

another question asks if I'm the first to complete an undergraduate program.. my mom has an associates, is that considered completing an undergrad program?

I had a couple of those & put Y -- N is meant to indicate a problem with academic performance.

1. For neuroscience: What's the extension before the course number? Is it taught through the bio department or the psyc department? Also is it cross listed?

2. At A&M we need to take 4 PE classes :barf: (AggieSarah is lucky and came after they changed that to 2). When I called TMDSAS about that they said to list it as Y - last time taken because it was a course I was meant to take more than once. Like Pemb said, it's only N if you're retaking for academic performance issues.

3. Huh. I have no idea. You might want to call/email TMDSAS. When you find out, will you let me know the answer and I'll edit it into the FAQ? Thanks 🙂

i am currently in a 2 yr+ LD.

Looks like it might have to go to 6+ yrs if I go to houston

I've been with my bf for 5 years, 4 years long distance. It can be done but it isn't for everyone. If you're supposed to be together, you'll be together near or far 🙂

Yeah, that's what I keep telling myself. What's really odd is I was planning on moving this year to be in the same city as him (since getting into med school is looking unlikely). Apparently he doesn't think we'll work out even if I move...funny, since nothing was wrong in our relationship that I knew about. 😕 I'm so confused it's ridiculous...he said maybe we could "start-over" if i move up here but that's the only way it could work. But he also said that he just needed a break...so which is it?! You want a break or you want nothing ever again?! Geez. Sorry, end rant. Thanks for the support guys.

All I can is that if you do move there, please don't put up with his "start over" and "break" bs. You deserve better than that. Why should he get to have the relationship all on his terms?

Sounds like either he doesn't really know what's motivating him, or he doesn't want to tell you. Either way, there's very little you can do about it. I hope either he straightens out his mental processes, or you find a newer, hotter guy who's easier to communicate with. 🙂

they're all listed as NSCxxxx, cross-listed in the psychology department. These are courses like clinical neuroscience, neuroanatomy, etc. I also have one that's neuroscience literature.. it's basically an English course where all we did was research & write a huge paper, but was taught through the neuroscience department.

I will email TMDSAS and ask about the undergraduate program thing.

If it were me, I'd demand an explanation, simply because I'd be pretty pissed that he'd drop a bomb completely out of nowhere after a year and a half.

Though I'd be afraid to say that the explanation might hurt a thousand times worse than the actual breakup.

Yeah, he has a lot of family issues right now with someone very close to him being very sick...I honestly believe that has a lot to do with him shutting everyone out right now, including me. I mean he's an emotional wreck over it. (A question for you guys...If your girlfriend sees you cry for the first time, wouldn't you feel pretty vulnerable? I mean this guy apologized profusely for it...I was like, your only human) But seriously, I deserve more than a "it just won't work" explanation. I'll probably let him cool down and try talking to him later this month.

I've thought of that, but honestly all the girls i've met up there are just not his type...but then again, maybe he's decided that the hot doctor girl isn't what he wants anymore.
 
Anyhow, back to what's more important in my life at the moment...I noticed on the TMDSAS main page about needing a transcript request form?? Did they use those last year? I was about to request a transcript from UT online but just stumbled upon that...

They used them in 05 when I applied. I assume it was the same in 06.

There's a page error on Texas Tech's secondary application though, you can't finish it until they fix it.

They didn't use them last year, but I was told they're using them last year and it is like when they send the transcript they have to put the form in there with it. very strange i think.

I picked my exam up today... wow. Thankfully there was that 8 point curve.

You should see the fill in the blank portion of my exam. It's got marks all over it.

Hmmm... I can't remember if I used them or not... I don't think I did because I can remember just ordering my A&M transcript electronically.
 
Hey all:

Is it me, or is trying to login and do TCOM's secondary seem more like you're just bouncing from link to link? I found a place to get an ID and a PIN, but if you log in it says the secondary is due October 15th, and on the initial link from TMDSAS it says the secondary is due November 1st, 2007. So confusing!

do I need to re-release my MCAT scores if I haven't taken it again since last time?

I have a question about a situation around me and need a fresh perspective on this situation. A guy I used to date is coming home after being away for 2 years, anyway for the last 6 - 8 months his cousin ( and favorite wingman) has been suddenly asking me questions about my love life and dropping major hint bombs to either get my mind on my ex or to call my ex. The last time his cousin did something like this was because my ex had a huge crush on me and could not tell me ( he is not the best communicator in the world) . Now I am trying to figure what is trying to be said to me and on side note even up until before he left it was a known fact that we still were feeling each other. So Fellow Texans please let us pull our intelligent medical minds together and help me figure out what am I being told.😕

I was a re-applicant this past cycle and had to re-send all of my transcripts and re-release my MCAT scores even though nothing changed.

I got my response from TMDSAS on this one.. an associates does not count as completing an undergraduate program.

The same thing happened to me... when I decided to move closer to him he pulled away (right before graduation). I still went because I had a job lined up, but I was miserable--I had no friends there and didn't want to talk to or see my ex. Being "friends" would have made me more miserable. Walk away, move where you have friends or stay where you are. There is no reason to waste your time and change your life over someone who can't decide if he wants you or not. Keep positive... you're graduating and starting anew, why drag a boyfriend from your previous life along? A lot of things will change in the year you have inbetween college and med school.

I was having problems with a portion of Tech's secondary application, where when I submitted the info it gave me an error page. I used the "technical problems?" link to email someone.

Is it kinda weird that the person this email goes to is assistant director of the admissions office? I wouldn't figure that kind of person (admissions) would be in charge of technical issues on their website.

He hasn't told you anything yet... keep your head in the game and don't get emotionally involved before he even moves back into town. Proceed with cool, calm, collected caution [i'm offically making today alliteration wednesday]. For all you know, the wingcousin could be interested himself... And something I've seen with friends who are girls, and it might just be that I'm old fashioned, but make him come to you, or rather, just wait him out. It'll make things much easier on you in the long run. Just an opinion.

Agreed. It sounds like he's just looking for an easy out, unfortunately, and your potential move threatens his long distance security to which he may have clung. There's probably nothing even wrong with your relationship... people grow apart and sometimes lose interest. [soap box: But then again, married people of many, many years say that the intensity of love may wan and grow, but that's why you marry someone you love because of who they are and who they will be then they're 60 and wrinkled and no longer make your stomach get butterflies, your heart pitterpatter, etc...]

Proceed with extreme caution. And if for some reason you do share the same city and do not end up 'together'... never, NEVER, under any circumstances, try to be friends. At least for the length of the relationship, don't even speak, email, etc. You have to rebuild on your own... he'd only hold you back, however well motivated. Take care of youself.

I also want to say, your gut [not heart] instinct is more important than what anyone else thinks here. You know him and yourself better, how you/he would react. Think this one out, as much as possible, without the emotion that comes the history.
