My wife and I went to Banff last year for our honeymoon...that picture was taken in one of the stores in town there (and yes, it's a stuffed moose in a santa hat 😀 ). actually, my old cider photo was from that trip as well.

Agreed. I used to work crazy hours as a research assistant until I was told by my doctor to work less and reduce stress in my life, otherwise I was facing some potential health problems. Hope they don't pop up during medical school!!

i am looking at medical school pressure as eustress!!! 😛

"Some stressors can cause both good and bad stress. Radiation, left uncontrolled, may cause cancer, and yet, if the radiation is controlled and pinpointed, it may serve to cure some cancers."

does that make me a dork?

i have to go to sleep now, i have to work tonight, 11p-11a, and that IS NOT eustress in my book! our hospital is so full we were on advanced admissions policy - no beds! pts holding in ER, CCU nurses with >2 pts, pts in the physical therapy gym as a makeshift ward, OH JOY! i can say one thing for our occupation guys, and that is BUSINESS IS BOOMING! baby booming 😉

okay, i really AM a dork!
goodnight! i mean, good afternoon!

whatever! 😀

Not too much. I think most people who are wanting to go to medical school are nerdy/dorky. In fact, one of my best friends swears that if I were to be a Harry Potter character I'd be Hermione (I've got the hair too).

Sadly to say, my stress is not healthy. It caused my blood pressure to be a wee bit too high.

i guess my mailing calculations were a bit off - oh well, another day of waiting...

for most of the previous waves of letters, the timetable seemed to be:
monday - meeting
tuesday - prepare and sign letters
wednesday - send out letters
thursday thru ??? - receive letters based on how long it takes mail to get to you from chicago (for example, i live in chicago, my letter was post-marked wednesday of the week of the meeting and i got it thursday...others further away, flop for example, took significantly longer.)

I got mine 8 mailing days after the meeting.

My dearest future (maybe) classmates, I have some bad news 🙁 . I interviewed at another school today that I really liked-- Jefferson. IF I get in (I should find out in 3-4 weeks), I will have a tough decision on my hands. I was gung-ho Loyola, but now I am feeling torn. It could just be because it was a beautiful day in Philly, I don't know. But I do not like this feeling.

Now is when you try to convince me to go to Loyola...

Congrats trishaaaa!! I hope you are in the enviable position of having to choose between two schools that you love! What was it about Jefferson that you loved? I am sure that either way, you are going to make an awesome doc...

Things I loved about Loyola AND Jefferson:

1. Students were very happy
2. Faculty seem very concerned and caring
3. Very involved in the community
4. When asked what they would like to see change, both students and faculty replied, "nothing."

They're also both in cities I like...

Hmm.. what are the pros and cons of each though?

Pro of both: good clinical training (this is really all it comes down to)
Con of Jefferson: huge class size (but not necessarily a terrible thing)
Con of Loyola: cost

I'm sure there are more, but I can't think that far ahead yet!

Wanna throw some more pros and cons out here for me????

Cost is a biggie.. how big is the difference? How do you like the surrounding area? Is the match list similar? Do they have guys as nice as jbrice and me at Jefferson? lol.

Match lists are similar. Most students stay relatively local for residency, and I don't care if I train in PA or Illinois.

As for cost, let me put it this way: the financial aid lady at Jefferson said, "We treat Delaware residents really well." (P.S.- I maintain residency in Delaware). I won't know more until the financial aid package arrives.

No, nobody at Jefferson is as nice as you. Thus, Loyola it is! 🙂

I would say:

Step 1. get accepted
Step 2. withdraw from everywhere else so you are only debating between two schools
Step 3. wait until you get the financial aid info
Step 4. Go to second look to help make a decision
Step 5. Consult the magic 8 ball

No need for all of these steps. Like I said, I'm going with jbrice and flop!!! 😀

LOL.. I am still holding out for UCLA.. so there is a small chance that I will be lured (is that how to spell that?) away.

hey, it's thursday AND........
drum roll please..........
i am STILL on hold at Loyola!
Up for review any time between now and February 🙁
wow, that makes me sad

Hopefully you will go under review sooner than later!! I think maybe I'll call next week to see what they say.........no need to make my current week any worse.
After last night's adevntures of having to change a flat in the cold and snow, I think I'm good for this week. Stupid construction sites dropping screws for me to run over....... 😡

ooohhh...you should totally tell them about that tire...i think they're sympathetic to those of us who have bad luck...i had a flat tire the morning of my interview when i went out to my car because my idiot neighbor uses our garage as his workshop and leaves nails all over under my car....

and to all of you still waiting on hold, just remember, it takes them a long time because they only interview about 3 people each time they interview as opposed to the 12-20 of most schools...so it's a more drawn out process...not that that makes it easier to wait, but at least it should help keep your hopes up :luck:

can someone post loyola's number? i'm in class and want to call them after. my msar's at home. thanks yall.

Hmmm....that's a clever idea. Use my bad luck to my advantage. Sadly I don't think Matt in the admissions office would be so nice as to speed along the review process for a flat tire, but you never know. Hopefully I don't get a flat on my way to my interview (if I get one)!! That would be awful. I'd figure out a way to take some revenge on said neighbor. That's just carelessness.

well I'm off to get my hair cut......only 3 more inches and I can have enough to safely donate!!

CHILLLSSS!!!! brings back BAD memories, man! my first apartment shared a driveway with 4 units, and the 19 year old football playin' community college goin' hypertestosterone gentlemen upstairs used to get into drunken brawls in said driveway at 3am....beer bottles were involved, yes. i had to buy 6 tires while they lived there, 6! and my tires aren't cheap - damn camaro tires cost an arm and a leg, especially when you have to buy 6 of them within the span of a two years.

thanks for the encouraging words (about the "hold" status, not the flat tires) it does help 🙂

uh...double post...delete me...i want to be deleted...

come on baby make it delete so good...sometimes a post don't feel like it should...you gotta...delete so good.

sadly, my idiot neighbor (i'm in a 3-flat with a shared garage) is not 19...not uneducated...just a careless twit. he's actually an engineer in his late 30s...so there's really no excuse for his *****ic ways other than that he's inconsiderate and has no common sense. on the upside, while i agree that tires are really expensive, especially when you're trying to combat chicago winters, Just Tires has a great no questions asked replacement program, so my replacement tire was free. AND, luckily the nail stayed in the tire, so i was able to simply fill it before the interview and then deal with changing it later that day after i was done.

cubs, any word?

has anyone heard yet? for some reason i thought they'd send things out on the 28th. oops.

and what's all this talk of small envelopes? they send acceptances in small envelopes? has anyone been rejected by them yet?

i really wanna go there.... 🙁

i can't even stalk the mailbox/mailman tomorrow and saturday because i'm going out of town tomorrow morning. also - last time i had a family member open a thin envelope up for me it was a rejection, and i don't think i can take that again especially from a school i really liked 🙁

did i mention 🙁 ?

hey flop - no word yet - keep your fingers crossed...

acceptance comes in small envelope. Good luck Speed! I think people interviewing this early have mostly been accepted - the wall of shame has no new entries.

thanks guys - tonight def calls for a cheap bottle of bubbly and perhaps a gibsons dinner (for my fellow chicago brotherin) - thanks again, can't wait to meet you all

hey flop. jbrice, cubs, and anyone else that has been accepted - what was your GPA and MCAT scores? I interviewed at Loyola in early November and am also waiting anxiously by the mailbox for the decision (hopefully acceptance) letter. It will probably take at least until Monday to reach Colorado, and I can hardly wait.
