Why do I even respond anymore.
Clearly at least a hundred other people are stalking this thread and know a whole lot more than me... I feel so insignificant... 🙁

FLOP GOT IN?? I'm pretty out of the loop. Congrats buddy, you must be on cloud f*cking nine^ ninth. So happy for you.

so i'm gonna call soon for my "status check" do y'all know why they only offer it one day? and i'm sure if my status had changed to an interview they would have called, dont ya think? why do they even have the status check? any insight would be fantastic.

actually i've called on days not thursdays before and they don't yell at you for doing so at all. i think they just try to get you all to just call on one day so they can get their stuff done the rest of the week. i've submitted back in september and have been calling them about my status ever since, cuz they never sent me any piece of mail.

me: "i'm calling for an application status check amcas ID: ___-"
loyola woman: "it looks like your application is complete and under review"
me: "do you know how long before I should hear something"
loyola woman: "well, it looks like you've been under review for a while now, so thats a good thing..."

uhhh

Uh oh, the truth is out. Now a thousand neurotic pre-meds are going to be calling daily! The receptionists at the admissions office just got a whole lot busier... poor Rosemary.

matt and rosemary...if you read this...please note that i only told people to call on thursdays 😀

I have never called any of the schools to which I applied. I just wait for them to do their thing.

I am also an atypical pre-med (clearly).

I have been tempted to call RoseMary and Matt, though, just to tell them that I love and miss them dearly. Nicest admissions people ever.

btw, where's flop at?? he's gotta be happy and drunk somewhere.

rosemary seemed pretty stressed today. one of you should call and console.

yeah...i watched cops last night...just to see if we'd see someone getting hauled away screaming "but you don't understand...i got in...I GOT IN!!!!"

it's still early out west though...he's probably just crawling out of bed now

I wonder if I should call. They told me I would be complete within the next 2-4 weeks. This is last week though. I am going to wait a little. Do they send complete emails?

apparently it differs somewhat...i got a letter in the mail with my complete date on it. others have said they didn't get anything and had to call. i really don't know how it goes down for sure...

LOL....I really want in. Like Damota said I like the tight nit group we have. I seriously pray for a chance.

gdbaby, I would be happy to look over your LOI, I am not sure how much emphasis you need to place on the catholic angle though. Neither of my interviewers were catholic (or religious) at all - and not once during my interview day did it come up until I brought it up asking some questions about my concerns regarding attending a catholic school. PM me.

Army, keep us posted! I need to go draft withdrawal letters for the other schools now...Hmmm... rejecting THEM feels GOOD...

Will do Flop! Honestly, this thread makes me want to attend Loyola even more!!

Anyone have the flow chart of deans and chair persons at Loyola? I saw it on the website but can't seem to find it. Thanks!

Well.. I am a SUPER lightweight when it comes to alcohol (I don't even drink beer normally) but this called for a celebration. The INTENDED plan was to go to dinner, then meet some friends for drinks, but after just TWO mixed drinks at dinner, I was so drunk, I just had to go home and watch the walls spin. Ugh!

fear not, when you come to chicago, the bitter wind chills will cool your blood so much that your tolerance will triple simply because of the slow alcohol permeation. it was 17 degrees when i left for work this morning...wind chill was about 7 degrees...you're gonna love it here!

It is 68 degrees here, I am in shorts and a T-shirt and terrified of how I will survive after I move! I guess you will be able to point out the California boy - I will be the one showing up to class in my ski-pants and 15 sweaters.

I will see what the UCs have to say (it is just a lot cheaper) but since only UCLA has sent me a secondary, it looks like Loyola is going to be it.

well actually i only did that once, calling on a day not thursday, because there was no way i could have placed a call on a thursday (busy schedule). but honestly i was expecting the answering machine and didn't think they'd actually pick up. the thing is i was expecting to get yelled at for not following directions indicated in the letter but they didn't.

Lucky you, it was only 4 where I live when I went to the gym this morning!! :scared: (Closest to cold I can find)

Like someone said above, I hope I get in with you all so I can see Flop dressed in Ski pants for class.......just don't be like my friend who comes and visits from AZ in spring only to claim it's cold and requests I loan her my winter coat that is approved for -20. 😉

Probably since mid-October after they recieved my MCATs. Today they said was "ready for committee." I wanted to say "my app was BORN ready." But that just isn't true.

at least you are still under review, i am on "hold" 🙁
what does this mean, really? they did not like you enough the first time they looked over your app to grant you an interview right away, but they did not hate you enough to toss you out right away either? i am so sad and confused and partly discouraged. i think "lessthanaverage" should be my username. sorry for talking crap, you guys are all so wonderful and happy and that school is great and it is really close to my i house...ok, if i keep going i will cry.

lol....if I was on the committee, I would admit you based on that comment alone

Then you would see my legs and say "whooooa, THAT's why I'm admitting you!"
Like my app comment, this one is also not true.

Hello,
I wanted to know if anyone has thoughts/praises/concerns/juicy info regarding Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. I'm not asking for numerical, "Go look it up in MSAR" sort of information; I'm thinking more of "heard through the grapevine" sorts of things. Or, perhaps you are a student or alumnus that has wandered into the pre-allo page; do you have any thoughts? I was recently accepted there and love the school. I will most likely be attending in the Fall. Unless, of course, one of the venerable cadres of SDN forum junkies can convince me otherwise.

It's in the Midwest. 'nuff said. But you gotta fit in where you get in!

Apparently you haven't noticed that I have no accpetances. Some really nice offers for dinner, but no acceptances. 🙂

I am having these strange emotions now - I am all of a sudden feeling a bit overwhelmed, and scared - I mean, this is it, I made it in - what if I am not smart enough? what if I freeze to death? What if people in Chicago make fun of my funny California accent? Where will I live? How will I afford this?

Grrr.. it seems like one set of anxieties has just been replaced with another, but yeah - it is still a great feeling to be in at one of my top choices.

flop- obviously people are gonna make fun of you. i would. you're a funny guy. but funny in the way where you get laughed AT rather than with.
of COURSE you're not smart enough. you spelled hipopotamus - flopotomist as your screenname. - clearly an idiot.
where will you live? probably underneath one of the cadaver benches, don't worry you'll get used to the smell by day 4.
will you freeze to death? yes, i recommend banking some sperm cuz your nuts are history.

in all seriousness, you've got jack **** to worry about. you're good enough, you're smart enough, and doggone it, people like you. also keep in mind that you have about 9 months to worry, so spread those worries out, save em for later. congrats again buddy, you deserve all the success comin your way (note: i dont really know that, you're only an e-friend, but i'm sure its true in real life too).

Dude - hurry up and interview / get accepted at Loyola so you can smack me in the head when I am stressing. Oh wait, you want to go to Michigan though, right? Did that prof ever send your letter? I realize this is more appropriate for a PM, but darnit, I want the loyola thread to beat out that pesky Tulane thread...

haha. TOUCHE. i'm gonna go revive that bad boy right now because you said that. and its Minnesota, not Michigan. i would much rather go to Loyola, but my brother goes to Minnesota so I figure I have a pretty decent shot there.

My boyfriend is originally from southern calif. Been in the midwest 9 yrs and still gripes how cold it is, but hs yet to freeze to death. FUnny, always dreams about when he will move back.....

GDBaby, good luck on your review, mine was just listed as going to "review soon".

So I noticed that an official class thread did not exist for the Loyola 2010 class, so I just made one. It is under the allopathic thread under the "class threads."

I am getting jealouss!!! :scared:

G'luck with the review gdbaby! :luck: :luck:

I'm not in review yet but hopefully soon. I think I need to write a letter of interest this weekend. Maybe that'll get the ball moving for me!

Show a little leg eh? I could show more than that! I'm dying to go to Loyola! :meanie:

OK I've visited these boards sporadically, but after reading this thread I finally registered to post due to the sudden onset of an anxiety attack.

I got a call to interview at Loyola Friday evening a week ago, and was told to call this past Monday to schedule an interview, which I did.

Now, I expected to just be given a date, or a few to choose from. But the lady asked where I'm from (New Jersey) and says "You tell me a date". I was unprepared for this and asked if I can call back because I'm at work and don't have a calendar in front of me. She says okay.

So I think about it. On Sept. 29 I have a NJMS interview. Now for me Loyola>>>>>>>>>>>>NJMS, but I figure it would be good to go to that one first for practice because I haven't gone to an interview yet. Then I figure I also want time to review my research, healthcare topics, etc to be prepared for questioning. Basically, I didn't want to put it off, but I didn't want to do it too early and screw up either.

So I call back later saying that Wednesday December 7 would be good, and she says that works great.

But after reading thru this thread I've literally become nauseous because it sounds like I should have scheduled to go down there ASAP. Loyola is my top choice and if I mess this up I will be devestated 🙁

Should I be mad at myself for putting the interview off 3 weeks? Is it going to hurt my chances? Will they interpret it as me not caring enough about attending their school?

:scared:

I am so panic stricken.

Should I call and try to reschedule for an earlier date???

Shishka said:

Hey Shishka! Congrats on getting an interview!! I would say first, RELAX... Loyola interviews ~500 and accepts ~300 so the odds are looking good for you, and December isn't too late. They are on a rolling admissions cycle though, so the earlier you interview, the more slots are left.

Make sure when you do interview that you leave enough time to explore Chicago, there is so much to do, and so much to see! Also, while you are there, make sure to talk to some of the M1s.. they are super helpful and kind. If you have any questions about the interview, check out the interview feedback page on here, it is quite helpful. PM me if you need any other questions answered, and good luck!

Thanks, Flopotomist- will be PMing you 🙂

I am seriously tempted to call Loyola and ask if I can move up my interview, but I'm worried it would reflect badly on me 😳

That is awesome. They let you pick your interview date? If I get one and they ask me, I am going to ask them the soonest possible date!

I would love to be able to interview while I am already out there for the holidays!

Speaking of that, where are we all meeting up when I get into town! 😀
