well, it is nearly 5:00 pm Chicago time.....is everyone finished turning Rosemary & Matt's ears red for the day? 😉

No, really! When I was there last they said that on Thursdays they could not even escape from their desks for one moment! I asked if they went home and dreamt about phones....if they had NIGTMARES about telephones ringing incessantly....do they pick up their home phone if awakened from sleep and utter the words...."may I please have your AMCAS ID#?"

They were both very cool about it, of course, and short of saying Thursday is indeed busy they totally downplayed it!

THEY ROCK! 🙂

Hi Everyone-

I got the call for a loyola interview friday morning. I declined the spot, so good luck to who ever gets it. It was the hardest decision that I have had to make. I LOVE loyola, but I recently got accepted to downstate in nyc and that makes much more sense for my family... Having been through this twice, I know how hard it is not knowing yet and so I couldn't take the interview spot.

Good luck everyone...

You the man for turning down that spot!

I'm rooting and praying for all of you on the waiting list. It must be agonizing. Although I am not on the waiting list for medical school, I went through similar experiences for an undergrad school (ironically not the one I choose in the end) and for ballet companies when I was a dancer ... now THERE is a sadistic world. Anyway, I just wanted to share with you a quote that no-fail has always helped me get through tough times:

"No testing has overtaken you that is not common to everyone. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tested beyond your strength, but with the testing he will also provide a way out so that you may be able to endure it."

Time to "fall into the mystery" and let everything work its way out. If Loyola is the place for you I'll be thrilled to meet you in July!

I talked to a girl from my undergraduate school who is now at Loyola. She was on the wait list and got accepted in July. I suppose that can be viewed as good or bad news depending on how you look at it, but it definitely means they keep accepting people right until the last minute.

well it looks like I'm going to be staying in Iowa City. I just put in the offer on the amazing condo. I really couldn't pass it up. Plus the whole 1/2 the price thing (I'm in state) was a huge draw, as was the cooperation with the Philosophy dpt and Medical school in allowing me to develop my joint degree program.

I wish I could have had the opportunity to meet you all at Loyola (and future people to be accepted) but I'm sure I may come across you lurking on SDN some day. Also, I've got to keep tabs to see the good news you all will receive!! :luck:

A former classmate of mine also had quite the success story of coming in late off the wait/alternate list. When I was interviewing at Loyola this year I ran into him. I found out he had been on the alternate list and didn't get the acceptance call till four days before class started! I guess he missed out on the entire orientation week. He is now an M2 and more than happy to be attending Loyola. I guess sometimes people drop out for another school all the way up to that first week of class. Crazy. Just goes to show how they really do accept people up until the very last minute.

how accessible is loyola via public transportation?

Using a combo of the L and the bus, you could get around in theory - but I found that while I was visiting, I needed a car. Plus, in winter, I wouldn't want to deal with standing outside waiting for a bus. When you get your interview packet, they send a nice group of pamphlets describing how to use the public transportation.

so it's thursday....
i was thinking of calling to inquire about the waitlist status...ie: how many are on it and if it shows any hope for significant movement, and, to express my "continued interest in Loyola"

any thoughts? 🙂
anyone else calling?
and when is the next round of decisions made? IDforMe, when do you hear something?

exactly. like you said, it's technically possible, but not practical. if you live very near to the school, you might be able to do it with just a bus (check out http://www.pacebus.com/ for info on the suburban bus system). but, especially for those living in chicago, taking the el and then a bus would be long and particularly unpleasant in bad weather.

as a lifelong chicagoan and a lover of the chicago transit authority, i have to say i'll be driving to class this fall.

I know that my fate was decided on Monday (Feb 6) and I think is true for IDforMe too. Anyone received the letter yet? I'm in Boston so it may take a while...

flippa7, your interview history is quite impressive! as such, you must be one solid applicant and i am sure your fate at loyola = acceptance!

I haven't gotten a letter yet either...but I am in NC so, like you, I will probably hear after the Chicago-area people. Good luck flippa!!!

For those of you who are waiting, the letters were sent out on Wednesday. I actually was surprised to get mine this soon. I am now officially on the waitlist. 🙁 but yet, 🙂. Here's hoping I am near the top of the ranked list in late April. Anyone get really good news?

Oh, and just out of curiousity, does everyones letter say "There is every possibility that you could be offered a place in Stritch's Class of 2006 and your file will remain active throughout the coming months." Just wondering if Loyola, like some other schools sends you a slightly different alternate letter based on how much they like you.

Waiting until May 15th (or later) to hear from them is going to suck...

As soon as I see the financial package (and if its not anything like a 20,000 scholarship) I will be dropping my spot, and actually know quite a few people at my undergrad that plan on dropping their spots
Hope you guys get them!

Thanks, that is awesome-- it will make waiting a little easier. And congratulations on getting in at a school you prefer! (I believe I can safely assume that otherwise you wouldn't consider dropping your seat at Loyola) 😉

Flippa7, you mentioned that you couldn't see choosing UIC over Loyola, but in-state tuition was a draw. I can't find your MDApplicants page to check, but did you ever hear back from SIU? Hopefully we'll both end up at Loyola, but if not I think I'll be taking advantage of cheap tuition downstate. I might see you either way...

Oh, and I just noticed you said you are in Boston. Are you an Illinois resident? If not, congrats on the SIU interview... they don't offer them to very many people who are not.

Timmy---is the dog in your avatar your wonder dog?? If so he is soooooooo cute. 😍 I'm really excited about getting a dog this summer. I'm actually starting to scope out the little guys (well big guys, most are at least 40 lbs) this week at the shelter.

I called today and was told that my file was reviewed again and was determined to be "eligible for another review." I guess that means I'll get another look. Either way, it doesn't seem to matter anymore because they are waitlisting everyone. Therefore, if you interview tomorrow or in April I am assuming they rank the waitlist after they finish the season. Am I right?

I interviewed at SIU on January 6th but I haven't heard yet and I am an Illinois resident, i'm just out in Boston finishing a Masters. I guess i'll get my letter from Loyola any day now...when I was there it sounded like almost everyone they want to accept at this stage is going straight to the waitlist so you're definitely still in the running!! 🙂

Hmmm, I think I just learned something. El is spelled with an E in the front... and here I was demonstrating just how much of a "foreigner" I will be to Chicago - I spelled it 'L'

Although, to Timmy, and all the others with a waitlist - I have one more interview (UCLA/Drew) and if I get accepted there I will be freeing up a Loyola spot. Although, either way, I will be super happy (I feel VERY lucky to be in such a win-win situation, and wish that all of you eventually find yourselves in an equally appealing spot!)

Flop....I really mean this with ALL due respect, I hope you get into UCLA/DREW so that if I get an interview and waitlisted I can have a shot at getting off. PLus wouldn't it be nice for you to save all that money? It is kind of a win-win situation for all of us. 😉

Ooh...that's a good point.

(I'm also eligible for another review)

Bummer! I was hoping you would slide right in, bypassing this whole waitlist process, but take some mild comfort in knowing you are in good company 😉 . My letter said the same thing about being "offered a place" so your guess is as good as mine on that score.

It never really leaves your mind, but the numbness you feel after the initial stun of reading that letter does go away after week #2.

Yea, that is TIMMY! Or, "the T-man" or "T-bag" or "Teetles" or just plain "T"! He is SUCH a riot! He makes me laugh at least 29 times every day....I would not trade him for the world!

From what I understand, they don't start ranking the waitlist untill all the interviews are done.

Hey I am a senior med student trying to help organize this information for all premeds in the application process. If you could help me out by posting info on Loyola and any other programs I would very much appreciate it at www.scutmunkey.com
Also with regard to waitlists I would call the programs and ask where they placed you because it shows initiative and it brings you as a candidate to mind when you call. You will get a better idea of what your chances are as well. 👍

Thanks for the encouragement! :luck: to you with both Loyola and SIU! It is so tough to wait. One thing that I have definitely been improving over this past year is my patience... not exactly voluntarily, though. 😉

Heh. Thanks Timmy. I was pretty prepared for this, in fact, I would have been shocked to be accepted outright, so it's not that much of a let down. As for being in good company-- don't I know it! You ladies and gents seem to be some of the finest around. Yet another reason they should let all of us posting on this thread in! 😛 We would make an awsome class... but I digress...
Lets keep our spirits up, with the knowledge that spots will open up come May.

Oh, and Flop, as much as I wish you the best of luck at getting into your top pick school, I kinda hope we end up in the same class. I don't think it would be the same without you. 😉

That was my understanding of it too. Do they keep interviewing after late April or early May? That is when I was told they ranked those of us languishing on the alternate list.

I think they stop mid-April, but I don't know for sure.

actually, from what i see, they're both used. the cta has a logo that's just a big L but they also write it out El sometimes. that's why i just call it the train 😀

they are still handing out interviews, but they are also handing out quite a few spots on the waitlist! i have heard they are saving a few seats for direct acceptance, the rest are waitlisted until "interview season is over" and once people start withdrawing their acceptances to go elsewhere they start plucking from the list.

Just got back from California on the redeye to find an acceptance from Loyola! Woohoo! hpm4-rumor has it there is lots of waitlist movement but it looks like you're sitting pretty with an acceptance from Northwestern! They didn't even want to interview me... 😳

So I take it this means the rumors that the class is full are incorrect? Or have you been on the waitlist for a while already?

Congratulations flippa!!!!!

I am definitely not complaining about my Northwestern acceptance...but it just goes to show you that schools are looking for different things/it is all random 🙂

congrats! speaking of other acceptances, what others do you have flippa? is loyola your top choice?

hpm, are you going to NW, or are you still undecided?

here's to hoping the waitlist moves LIKE CRAZY!!! :luck:

I am leaning towards NW even though I really liked Loyola when I visited also....I just want to decide already and start making plans. This up in the air thing is awful... I have already withdrawn my Wake Forest waitlist and I am close to withdrawing my Loyola one too...that will be tougher than my wake withdrawal though 🙂 At least I wont be holding up a spot as long as I decide by May 15th right???

bumping.....page 3 is an unacceptable place for the Loyola thread! 😍

to be truthful hpm, i don't know exactly how waitlists move, but the letter says, "after interview season is over" so that would be after may 15th, yes.

hey timmy can you just pm me when you get in...i'm tired of checking this thread.

Speed, you shouldn't have to check this thread until after May 15th. They don't start taking people (Timmy) off the waitlist until then. Glad I could save you some time. 🙂 Peace.

the class is NOT full, right from the mouth of Rosemary.

She doens't know how many spots are still open, but its DEFINITELY NOT FULL!

So now i will wait patiently until March 1 when my letter is supposed to be mailed out.

tick, tock. tick, tock.

I guess thats a good thing but the question is....Who are they saving it for? I am MORE than confident that those who recently interviewed portrayed themselves good enough to be accepted. So....what is the deal?
