Touro COM - New York (TouroCOM-NY) Discussion Thread 2013 - 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I interviewed on 11/18 and was accepted to middletown. Have till January 10th to answer... no idea what i'm doing yet, interviewing with UNE tomorrow.

Gomerpyle-- I got a 25 on my first MCAT in June, then got a 31 in September... they brought it up in the interview and loved it. I think they generally just go with your highest but obviously they can see all your scores.

II this morning. Was complete November 20th. Any recommendations for a place to stay overnight?

Congrats! I was complete around the same time... I am hoping to hear soon. Did you get a call or email?

Nice. Good luck in the interview. Mind sharing stats?

Hi everybody, I sent in my secondary around November 18th and they still haven't taken my fee out. Also I never received any notification as to whether or not I was complete. How long did it take for you all. I gave them the credit card form as my method of payment. Any info would be appreciated.

I called yesterday and was told that they are currently backed up due to the holidays. By next week, they're hoping to gain some ground in processing secondary apps. In other words, we just have to wait.

Thanks, That takes a load off. I'm glad I checked in here first before calling🙂

I was notified about two weeks after my secondary was sent that my supplemental app was received and complete.

I was notified about two weeks after my secondary was sent that my supplemental app was received and complete.

I actually just received my complete email five minutes ago... so the problem has been resolved.

I sent all my stuff in on October 10th and never got a complete email.

Edit: Actually looking back, I got confirmation of the supplemental being received but not a "complete" email. I got an email October 18th stating they were waiting on my LORs which, again, were sent to them October 10th. Is that equivalent to a complete email?

It might be...

I never got a complete email either but then I called and asked and I had been complete for four weeks.

Yes. That is a more acurate description of the email I received as well.

I received an e-mail that my supplemental was received on Nov. 8th, still waiting to hear back about an interview. Hoping to hear from them next week. Do you think I should call them if I haven't heard back?

Who knows... I think that kind of thing is always better to decide on your own. I myself am always on the cautious side when calling places where I am applying.

Congratualtions and Good Luck🙂 Thanks for the info as well...

Hey guys, just wondering how many people are going to the Middletown site? Seems like a majority selected Harlem. Any risk of the site not being finished on time?

I would call and make sure they received your LORs. There is a lot of work on the admissions department because they're working for the Harlem and Middletown campuses, and they were saying that they're swamped with applications. I called them more than a month after my secondary and LORs were submitted, but they still hadn't downloaded my LORs, so my application was still considered incomplete. By the end of the week I had an II.

I don't know if we should be encouraging every applicant to call and double check if their recommendations have been downloaded... seems like we might just slow them down even more.
😱

I applied to both but I would prefer Harlem as I live 15 minutes away. Either would make me happy as I grew up in Dutchess County which isn't too far from Middletown.

As far as whether or not Middletown will be ready... it seems to me that Touro is pretty skilled at this point at rolling out new programs. I'd be surprised if there are too many hiccups.

I will be interviewing this Wednseday! Any tips for parking and all that? I saw the list of places that the school recommended, but was curious what some of you might think, having gone through process already.

Is the interview site near the 125th St building? If so people from NY that live in Westchester and Dutchess county can just take the metronorth commuter trains and walk a few blocks from 125th St. Station.

Is the deposit refundable? Sorry if this was mentioned before.

I'm pretty sure it is not if I remember correctly from last year's thread. Maybe someone who has been accepted this year can weigh in on this.

Deposit is not refundable I believe, but it does go to your tuition if you matriculate there . Best to double check anyways though

Sorry if this was mentioned before, but does anyone know the chances of getting accepted off the waitlist?

Did they send you an email letting you know you are wait-listed? I was interviewed last Monday and the wait is killing me >:*(!

no word yet for me. i interviewed last monday 12/2 in the afternoon. mr ruiz said we'd wait back in 2-3 weeks. however, people last year (and this year too i think) heard back in 6-7 days. i'm eager to hear back because if i am accepted, i want to cancel some upcoming interviews in january and give the schools maximum time to fill up the interview slots with applicants who would love to attend those schools.

Me too! I liked the school and really wanted this whole process to be over!

Any recommendations on places to stay for the interview? Aloft Harlem is so expensive! Also, any advice on how to get to Harlem from Newark Airport? Thanks!

P.S. Download HopStop its an app and it will tell you how to get anywhere in/around the city

From newark airport you can take a bus called the Newark Airport Express into Midtown Manhattan for $13 (takes 45-60 mins) and then take the subway to Harlem the 2,3 or A trains)

Heres the bus schedule: http://www.coachusa.com/olympia/ss.details.asp?action=Lookup&c1=Newark Liberty Airport&s1=NJ&c2=New York&s2=NY&resultId=17572&order=&dayFilter=&scheduleChoice=&sitePageName=/olympia/index.asp&cbid=286965943899

How about from JFK airport to Midtown? What is the best to way to get there?

I would take the Airtrain to Jamaica and then the MTA to Touro. It takes around an hr for the whole trip

It's right around the corner, btwn 124th and 125th on adam clayton blvd. There's a white castle (i think the only one in nyc) next door.

Classy White Castle conversation you all have going on here...

That's not what I was suggesting in my post. If you are complete for over a month and are competitive at Touro-NY (be honest with yourself), but haven't heard anything from the school, it may be worth calling to make sure they received/downloaded your LORs. Of course not everyone should do this and being competitive does not guarantee an interview, but I don't think it is unreasonable to call and check after 4-6 weeks have passed, especially at this point in the application cycle.

Understood. Thanks for straightening me out.

I apologize in advance if this question has been answered: When printing your secondary app, how do you make it so that the drop down boxes show the full text body of your response? I.e., if you have a had a misdemeanor charge and explained it, the printed format gets cut off after about 3 lines. Thanks!

Just to let you guys know - when I was at the interview, I asked a question regarding how many people they interview and how many people they accept. The director said they get over 6000 applications, they interview 900, and accept 140 or so to each campus.

Finally - can somebody figure out how they accept multiple MCAT scores? Do they take the last score? The highest score? Or the highest score from each section?

They have ~120 seats per campus. They can't only accept 140. The normal ratio is 2-3 acceptances per seat.

They take your highest MCAT. They don't mix and match.
