Yes they did. They said at this stage, the interview is to seat waitlisting applicants. Did they say that in your interview invitation? Or is just me?

This is what's on the first paragraph of the e-mail.
Please be advised that your application has been reviewed with your supporting documentation. Interviews granted at this stage of the admission cycle are for seating on the waitlist.
When did you turn in your secondary, drgioiadds?

If you have acceptances elsewhere and that school is a preferred choice for you over TouroCOM-NY let us know that too 🙂
Hey,
So for current students, where is the closest place to Touro you can live and reasonably have an apartment with a parking space. I am only half way through the lease on my new car, so regardless, I have to pay for a car for at least the first 1.5 years of medical school...so I might as well have it with me. I know parking is a general disaster in the city...any pointers of areas to live with easy access to transportation to and from school where I could have my car? Thanks!
And yes, I understand that Obed will keep us all individually informed with our rankings and what not starting in May...so this is not really helpful to any significant level. But it's nice to show future applicants how waitlists at this school work, and it's always good to see how fellow SDNers, who you have been talking to all year, are progressing. 🙂
There are many ways you could look at this situation...
There are apartment complexes just a few blocks away that are $1200-1400 for studios/1BR that offer parking for some additional amount, I think it is about $200/month. But in that case, you'd probably have no use for your car at all. You really don't need it in the city.
I only know of a few students that actually drive in to school, and unless you're living at little or no cost, it just doesn't seem to be a cost effective option as parking can be a huge pain on the street and the cost of garage parking really adds up.
You could always try living in CT/Jersey/white plains area and driving in I suppose.
My opinion: find some way to ditch the lease, even if you end up losing a bit of money in the process. Having a car in NYC is one of the most frustrating endeavors I have ever encountered.
I'm surprised at how many of you are being wait listed. From what I know, only about 60 have been accepted and intend to attend.
Brooklyn is doable. No I don't have parking here, but street parking is fairly easy to find. Just have to make sure you keep up with the alternate side parking thing, which isn't a big deal. With public transportation, it is less than an hour to Touro-COM door to door. A lot of future students seem gung-ho on living in Manhattan, but Brooklyn and Queens aren't so bad either... in fact, I'd take Brooklyn over Manhattan any day.
An additional note, and this coming from a student who loves living in midtown manhattan and thinks taking BK over manhattan is crazy talk: One of our major hospital affiliations is over on the Queens/Brooklyn border. So I'll be moving out to BK so that I can drive there for my 3rd year rotations. You'd still need to get placed there by having a good number in the 3rd year lottery, but if you already live in BK it makes your decision as to where to go very easy, since it's a generally very well-liked hospital by the students who go there.
Also its cheaper to live in brooklyn and since public transportation is one flat price, it costs no more to commute from brooklyn than from anywhere in manhattan not within walking distance of the school.
I like the sound of that (waitlisted here), but am wondering how you know that. Gives me a little more hope of getting in this year.
Is that St Johns?
Also, DocEspana, have you heard of any matches at local hospitals in New York this year (Presbyterian, Einstein/NYMC/NYU's hospital etc)? Thanks.
ughh. There is a bet going as to how long it would be til i posted this info.
I was wondering what took you so long...lol
Us BK folks are known for such crazy talk 😉An additional note, and this coming from a student who loves living in midtown manhattan and thinks taking BK over manhattan is crazy tal.
What is an estimated class size for first year students here?
talked with Obed a little earlier today. Said chances of coming off the Med- Waitlist are pretty slim. They would have to exhaust the high list first before getting to Med, and last year they didn't make it that far.
He said the last 2 years, by the time they got to pulling people off the waitlist, the high priority itself contained 140 students...
Really? 140? I do not see that as being reasonable...why even have three wait lists if your first one is so big you dont ever get through it? Grrrr...it seems like my confidence in my spot on the waitlist is changing daily. Guess all we can do is wait it out and stay in touch.
ughh. There is a bet going as to how long it would be til i posted this info. Damn. Someone had to ask, so ill give it. Here are the unofficial and self reported ACGME matches from our 4th year classes FB group. It was collected by someone else, just passed on to me.

The school really impressed me today! I really got a sense that the school is very committed to its students. It was nice to see.

I stayed at the ALOFT harlem. Its right around the corner from the school. Its about $159 a night. As far as the day goes, its pretty organized. Once you get there you will get a schedule of events. Obed will come in and do a short talk for about 30 min. This is nice because it breaks the tension a bit. He'll explain his job and what the interviewers will ask of you and what they are looking for.
Its an open file interview. Some people start with the interview and others will start with financial aid. After your interview, you'll get a tour of the school, have lunch and meet some of the deans.
Just enjoy the experience. I would say its not unlike any other interview you may have had before.
Where did you book it from? I looked on expedia and the aloft website and it says 203. 🙁 If you booked it from the same website I'd assume it's just different rates due to near booking time.
