UC Davis c/o 2016 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Interview is tomorrow! What did Dr. LeFebvre say at the orientation? Fear and excitement are caused by the same hormone?

Yep! Adrenaline. Epinephrine.

You can always walk across the entire campus to work out your nerves. (NOT recommended. Stupid Davis shuttle person who said it was definitely doable)

Another rejectee here (congrats and good luck to everyone who got an interview, btw!)

Sorry if this question is out of place, but I didn't want to start a new thread unless I had to. Does Davis give file reviews? I've searched the UCD website and old SDN threads for information on that, but haven't found anything. The vet I work with said that she got a file review after her rejection. That was ~8 years ago, but I'm hoping the practice still exists. If anyone could enlighten me, I'd be very grateful!

I also work with a vet who had a file review after her rejection from davis, but this was probably a decade ago. Try calling the admissions office?

As far as I can tell, they prefer to only do in-person file reviews for people who had interviews. Perhaps try emailing the office of admissions and asking about one?

I had a file review after I was rejected oh like...4 years ago? But I was interviewed that cycle too.

hey everyone!

luckily this year i got an interview but last year i was rejected before interviews. i called the admissions office after the application process was over and people were accepted and the school gave me an over the phone style file review and listed some things that i needed to improve on. hopefully this helps! and good luck!

They will do a file review for anyone who would like one. Since I live in the area, I was able to go in and meet with Yasmin but I know of others who have done it over the phone. It's always possible they will change that this year but I haven't heard anything like that.

Nailed it! It's all out of my hands now. I've done all I can do, haha.

Super down 🙁. I'm going to be in Las Vegas on the 26th and--unable to fight the urge to check my e-mail on my phone--will be despondent with a rejection. It doesn't make it better that a fellow applicant will be there and if they get an acceptance and I don't...I will probably die. Might just have to stay in Vegas forever....

OTOH if you both get an acceptance, you'll be in the perfect place to celebrate it in a way that you will never, ever, ever remember again. :meanie:

True. In that case, I hope an acceptance to Davis in Vegas, doesn't stay in Vegas only.😉

CFC I have high hopes for you!!! Remember, it ain't over til it's over!!! Don't be mopey NOW. You might die from sadness before you even hear.

And me on the other hand, am going through those "after interviewing" stages.

Thanks TW. You're right, I shouldn't count myself out of the game before the coin toss even happens. I guess I want to prepare myself for the worst and be pleasantly surprised if I actually get in. Just regretting making the plans for Vegas because now that decision can make or break the trip. Only 3 more weeks and we'll all know!

That's because it probably has been that long 😉

I think I started working on my personal statement in March of the year I applied...

So, have you or other current students ever heard from applicants that were interviewed, but not accepted? I have concocted a new fantasy that they don't exist. That Davis invites close to 220 students for interviews. 30 or 40 have already accepted at other programs and decline. Then another 20-30 that interview poitely turn down acceptance offers. I've analyzed the data. It must be true!!! Oh, the things we do while we wait... :eyebrow:

Our very own Nyanko interviewed and was then rejected. Successful the next year, though! 🙂

There was an applicant my year who also applied from Pierce. She interviewed and was placed on the waitlist so far down that it was basically a rejection... She's now at another school.

Right. And now she is "helping" to "design" the new curriculum. I will bury your comment away deep in my conspiracy files.

Ah, waitlist!!! I did not factor this into my complex algorithms. (pounds away on calculator) Thanks, Jessica. By the way, have I asked you to go peek at my file yet?? :help:

Or perhaps you could realize that it is all out of your hands, the commitee won't be meeting together until all interviews are finished, when the decision is made they will send you an e-mail and the only thing you can do now is sit back and relax knowing that you did everything you could!

Fo serious, though..... You need to start breathing. The waiting is agonizing, I agree, but I think you might end up injuring yourself with all this anxiety! 😉

Crossing fingers for you!

lol...I wish your theory was accurate, but as others have stated, we definitely know people who have been interviewed and then rejected or waitlisted. The waitlist does move here though...a bunch of people in my class got in off the waitlist! So don't give up hope if you get waitlisted. 🙂

And I'm not 100% certain, but I believe that they send out more interview invites based upon the number of people who decline, so in the end they should have their +/- 220 interviewees. But all things considered...the odds are in your favor if you got an interview! 130-ish spots and 220 interviews -- that means 60% of interviewees will get accepted. I don't know how you feel but coming from a college that accepted less than 15% of applicants, I loved having those odds! The biggest hurdle is getting an interview...after all that narrows your "competition" from 1k to 220 for ~130 spots.

Think positively...! 🙂

Damn your unimpeachable logic and evidence-laden reasoning. Anyway, three more weeks... 😉

Thanks for the support, my friends.

lol...what can I say, my father is a retired judge and I have a background in stats & research...

And I think you forgot the word 'only' in there...as in ONLY three more weeks! Seriously, it's been over FIVE MONTHS since you submitted your apps, so what's a few more weeks?! 🙂

Right. And now she is "helping" to "design" the new curriculum. I will bury your comment away deep in my conspiracy files.

Indeed I was rejected after my first interview.

If it helps, I went into it thinking that they made a mistake interviewing me and really didn't impress anyone.

I know two people (now graduated) who were each interviewed and rejected twice, and accepted on the third try.

That doesn't help one bit. What would help is you busting into the admissions office and scopin' out my file. I got an ugly black and yellow puck here with Cindy Crosby's name written on it... :eyebrow:

So they had to interview three times? Ouch! I don't know if I can handle such disappointment. :scared:

Relax! We have truly done all we can do 🙂

Yep. I'm also going through that post-interview "crazy person" phase, but I'm really trying to focus on my life and not worry about what kind of email I'll be getting in three weeks. It's completely out of our hands at this point.

Anyone hear about the recently formed Consortium of Western Regional Colleges of Veterinary Medicine?

"The consortium will provide a mechanism for effective collaboration as the colleges’ work to advance initiatives important to the veterinary profession."

“As we look to the future of the veterinary medical profession, we can see the development of challenges that will necessitate change in not only the practice itself, but in the education of our students,” said Dr. Lance Perryman, Dean, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University. “The consortium will allow us to work with our colleagues at other schools of veterinary medicine to collaborate on best practices, and move forward in ways that benefit not only our students but the veterinary profession as a whole.”

The consortium, formally created during an inaugural meeting Oct. 17-19, includes Colorado State University, Oregon State University, Western University of Health Sciences, Washington State University and University of California at Davis. The inaugural meeting of the consortium was funded and facilitated by Pfizer Animal Health as part of the company’s Commitment to Veterinarians™ platform—which offers support through training and education, research and development, investing in the future of the veterinary profession, and philanthropy.

Sounds promising. 👍

Does anyone now if Davis grants deferments for medical circumstances?

Does anyone now if Davis grants deferments for medical circumstances?

Yes and No. It's a situation by situation basis and is really a matter to discuss with the school......unforutnatley, not one of those situations where 1=1....

How are everyone else's interviews going? 🙂

This Wednesday...about to barf I'm so nervous.

Oh guys!!!! It seriously isn't THAT bad!!!!

You can always walk across the campus to take your mind off of it! :smack:

Haha, no I was actually sick the day of VMOP. It was not because of nerves.

Thanks for the reply guys! I really appreciate it :] and I'm crossing my fingers for the rest of you guys who have gone through/are waiting for interviews.

Does anyone know what IS tuition will be like for Davis next year? According to the Davis website, IS tuition for 2011-2012 is about 32,000, but according to the VMCAS general info chart, in 2012, UC Davis IS tuition with be 42,000. Anyone know what's up with that discrepancy? Thanks 🙂

We never know what the tuition is until we get the bill, so they're probably just estimating worst case. Sometimes they even change it after that. California is awesome. Right now, I think we're billed about 33k for the year. Generic grants and such that everyone gets knocks off about 4500-ish a year currently, but the amount seems to be less and less with every bill. I try not to look at the bills anymore. They make me sad.

I got a new avatar to wish you luck.

Malkin's a helluva player. If I were either the Flyers or Penguins, I wouldn't mind dropping to the 6th seed to face off against Florida or whomever comes out of the southeast. Philly-Pittsburgh first round would be epic, though. First week of April gives us two possible previews it appears. Good times. :claps:

That's priceless.
