anyone starting UC Dublin in september looking for roomates? :luck:

im going over in july to look at apartments....then if i cant find one my mother likes im living in the dorms.

whats your plan for going over there/living?:luck:

being i dont know anyone over there and didnt want to get a random roommate off of craigs list or something so i planned on staying in the dorms for the first term then getting a place off campus and bring my dog over. being we cant move into the dorms til right before school starts i didnt plan on going over there til the end of august.
however i was thinking that if i could find someone in our class to room with right off the bat it would make things a lot simpler and i could bring my dog over sooner.

I think it would be kind of difficult to find a roomate like that before starting in Dublin - for the most part you will only meet your future class mates a few days before starting. Most people will start looking for rental accomodation around the start of August - in the past its been very difficult. 11 of my classmates ended up living on people's couchs for over 2 mths when we were in 3rd year! Thankfully with the recession prices have dropped and more accomodation has been available. I can give you a list of residential areas close to college(walking/cycling distances) if they are of any use to you.
Some of the college accom isnt up to much, though Americans usually get into Glenomena which is ok, or Roebuck Hall (which is the best and newest). Roebuck doesnt look anything like the photos - they are of glenomena. I lived in Roebuck the first year it opened and loved it - though the kitchens certainly arent meant for 6 ppl to cook in! Campus works out quite expensive. For renting in a 4 bed house expect to pay ~ 400euro per month. i was lucky enough to pay about 350-370 each year and live very close to campus (estate backing onto campus). For a nicer house you may well end up paying closer to 500 or 600 euro and once the rental market improves (in a few yrs) prices may go back upto the 600euro or so they were 2 years ago.

Cost of living in the city has dropped hugely in the last year - especially 6mths. I think i was unfortunate enough to have been in college during the most expensive time!

One other thing - a large number of American students at UCD end up staying on to work in Ireland - so Im sure you will enjoy it!
