I've been accepted at both Albert Einstein and UConn, and I'm on the waiting list at Yale. I find out where I'm ranked at Yale by tomorrow, but if it isn't good, that means I have to decide between Einstein and UConn by June 12th. From what I can tell, Einstein is ranked above UConn, but I'm a Connecticut resident, so UConn would cost half as much for me.

So do I make a choice according to the money or according to the 'supposed' quality of the school? Is US News really a good way to determine a school's quality?

Anyone have an opinion of which I should choose?!?!

Which school did you like the most when you visited? Perhaps it's better for you to narrow it down by writing a list of pros and cons, besides the money and rank factor.

Oh, and PS, I liked them about equally when I visited and think I could be happy at either location...

Yea, see that's the problem, I liked them pretty equally when I visited...but good idea on the pros and cons list! Thanks!!

Please do not post the same thread in different forums. I am closing this thread. If anyone wants to answer the OP's question, follow this link to the thread in School-Specific Discussions.

If you liked both places equally and one is cheaper, go to the cheaper school. Additionally, there isn't much of a 'ranking' difference between Einstein (#41) and UCONN (#56), so don't use this to make your decision. I recommend UCONN if you don't get off Yale's waitlist.

US news is a very poor way to determine schools quality. If you liked them both equally, then go with uconn for financial reasons. Simple as that

I don't know to what extent this might be true, but NYC is by some considered better for clinical rotations and by extension residency opportunities. Also, AE seems more established than UCONN which is still quite new.
One person at my school interviewed at AE and said that all the students seemed miserable, but I expect this to be true at every medical school from time to time (maybe even most of the time). Congratulations on being in position to choose between at least two programs and good luck.

Edit: AE is not much older than UCONN (two decades or so). Both programs are reasonably new by my standards.

If BBall > Bronx and having $$ > having no $$

then UCONN

Ranking is only as important as it colors your perception of the school; since the two are still equal in your mind, you should go for the cheaper one.

I've been accepted at both UConn and Einstein, and I need to make a decision by June 12th.

I know all the pros of the schools, because they tell us all about them in their websites and literature...but what are the cons?

If you go there, or know anything about them, please tell me anything you don't like about the program, curriculum, rotations, hospitals, etc...anything bad about the school in general?!

I'm trying to make the most educated decision possible.

If you are from CT, then come to UCONN, provided that you didn't get an equally good deal financially from Einstein. Otherwise, I would say that you should go with your gut. It's mostly a decision about location- urban or suburban (with urban hospital experience in 3rd-4th yr).

Did you go to 2nd look?

agreed. I just graduated form einstein. There's nothing that pro's/con's working out will tell you that you don't already know. Do a 2nd look if you need, ignore whatever 1st and 2nd year students tell you about the school. The meat of medicine education is really in the last 2 years.. It's all about where you'll be happiest, and what's in the best location for you. Einstein is a great school, it's also got its cons like any other school which you won't figure out til you've been here awhile because as in all things, these cons are gonna be personalized for you as well a the pro's. The only thing to realize about einstein is that while we are in new york city, we are not in Manhattan. Having a car to get around here really helps. For doing city stuff you take the express bus in to manhattan or drive yourself in and learn the roads and the good parking area.

Thanks! For you, what were the cons? If you don't mind me asking...

I'm a CT resident and have been accepted at UConn. I'm trying to choose between it the Albert Einstein.

Can anyone give me some personal pros and cons of UConn that might help me make a decision?

Given the cross-posting and multiple posts, I'm inclined to say go to Einstein 😛

No, UCONN!!!

To the OP, if you really want to decide between the two and they seem equal to you, you gotta go with your gut. If you can't figure your gut out, then do the following. Pick a coin, heads Einstein, tails UConn. Flip it. Once you flip it there are 4 possible outcomes, each of which tells you where you should go.

1. If it lands heads and you're ok, go to Einstein
2. If it lands heads and you find yourself about to flip it again, pick UConn.
3. If it lands tails and you're ok, go to UConn
4. If it lands tails and you find yourself about to flip it again, pick Einstein.

Honestly, that's the best way to see what your gut is telling you. I"m not gonna tell you my pros and cons for my school because they're my pros and cons and should not be part of your decision making process. It'll only lead you astray.

Go to UConn, they match well, and do well above national average on the boards. It's a bargain to go there. The school is not a dump by any means and the med students seem very happy there. Have you gone to second look? It really sold me on UConn.
