UF c/o 2014... It Begins!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
No news yet. Dr. Mckenzie said we should be hearing this week if everything goes according to plan. Soo anxious!! And I hope to hear soon because my second Nova payment is due February 15 :/

I know soo nervous. This is my top choice and I haven't been accepted anywhere else so this is stressing me out. So far I've checked my email 60000 times today.

Me too!!! I was surprised when he said they would contact us by e-mail too. Good luck, hopefully we hear soon! Which group were you in on Friday? I was in Group 3.

I know. I was just thinking how it's funny how every school is so different. At LECOM for example you have to come to every class, dress up etc. but at UF everything is online/you can watch all the lectures online.

I was in group 3 as well. And you got the Orlando campus too right? I've been living in Orlando for 12 years so let me know if you have any questions about the city 🙂 Kind of bummed about not getting the main campus but hopefully there is many chances to get involved in Orlando too.

Congrats on getting an interview coral.
Would you mind giving your stats?
Where did you interview?

Yea I did get the Orlando campus, I'm guessing you were sitting next to me? Lol.....there were so many people there....what's your name?

A friend told me that UF (does or use to?) mixes and matches the percentile scores for each section of the PCAT (if taken multiple times) and recalculates the overall composite using the highest scores attained on each section.

Is this true? If so, do they still do it?

Their website says "The College accepts the highest score." I assume they just use the highest composite. I have never heard of them mixing and matching.

if thousands of applicants, it will be overwhelming for the staff to mix and match. They only use highest composite score. But remember high gpa is important, too
If I remember correctly, my pro told us that ad com meet every tue and Thursday. they are very busy now. So expect email will be sent out soon

Yea it was! For not that many clicker points either lol. How'd you know I was in the class?

Haha I saw that you were in nutritional sciences and thought ur pic looked familiar. Its cool to know there are other pharm hopefuls in the class. I thought most were pre-dental/med/vet.

It's sad that there weren't many pre-pharms in my classes either (I went to a different school). They were all pre-med or dental. I had one friend who was 2 years younger than me who was, but he switched to law with a poli sci major after his first semester. 🙁

Last night, I had a dream I got an interview invitation from UF. lol man, I need to start pharmacy school so I keep having these weird dreams haha

What campus did you rank 1st? I ranked St Pete so I feel like it's going to be a few weeks until I know if I'm rejected or given an interview.

For the people who have already been invited for an interview, how long did it take them to send you an invite once they received your full application? They received all my materials last Thursday and I have not quit checking my email since then!
I just received an invitation to interview at South University, and although I am happy about it, I cant stop thinking about how bad I want UF!

They will not send you an interview invite until a week or so before the actual interview.

I submitted my supplementals near the beginning of December and got an invite near the end of January, so a little less than two months for me at least.

It took Nova about ~1 week between my supplementals being sent and getting an interview invite so you probably don't need to constantly monitor your e-mail for UF right now.

I'm not sure what the person above me is referring to, my interview date was almost two months away when I got my interview invitation.

I had my PharmCAS done in October and the supplement done in mid-November and got the interview invite on Jan. 6 for the Jan. 29 interview. It seems like different people have different experiences though. I have no idea how they separate people...either by dates of submission or stats?? UF is such a mystery, the other schools I applied to got back to me within a few days of submitting their supplement.

I did G'ville then Apopka, I think. I did it back in August, so I can't quite remember. But I am pretty sure that's what I did.

Oh okay... Apopka is Orlando right? That's kind of outside the main city huh? St Pete is really in Seminole I think as well? Not exactly sure... I'm a south Florida resident, but I've visited pretty much every city in Florida. LOL

Good luck on interviews you guys!!! UF COP is awesome, especially the Orlando campus! 😉 What Chris said before is really true- the distance campuses are much more socially connected and we have a lot of fun together. We have clubs, socials, fundraisers, studygroups...there is always something going on. I have heard from several students at UF in Gainesville that it can get very competitive and "cliquey" up there if that is even a word. I'm sure not everyone has that experience, but our class is very close and I LOVE being in Orlando!! So don't be upset if you are placed here, it is AWESOME!!

Good luck! Let us know if you have any questions!!!!

I submitted my PharmCAS in early October and my supplemental in early November. I got my interview invitation in December for the January 29th interview. So, I received it a little over a month before the interview. Hope you hear back soon! Good Luck!

From my experience, every campus has something special to boast; St. Pete is just beautiful, close to a real city, fantastic beaches that you can watch lectures on, and many other things to do. Orlando is phenominal! We have done so many things together; Holloween Horror night, rock climbing, paintball, Universal city walk, ect... We have a beautiful park next to our campus by a huge lake(beautiful Lake Apopka) where we get together for sports day(football, basketball, u-frisbee, volleyball, tetherball, don't hit the peacocks with your car). GNV = a gator's dream not to mention you get to interact more with other clinicians; med students ect... Jax...hmmm...I don't know much about jax but hopefully one of my jax classmates can share something. Also, UF is building a new campus for Orlando and it will be in Lake Nona's new "Medical city," along with UCF's new med school. Good luck to you all. I look forward to seeing you O-town 1PDs.

LOL yeah, Apopka is a po-dunk town right outside of Orlando. And St. Pete is pretty close to Tampa.

So it sounds like everyone has had a different experience getting an invite from UF. That leads me to my next question... While waiting, how many of you are putting money down on schools that have accepted you? I know it is worth it to make sure you have a seat SOMEWHERE, but at the same time it really stinks. I just want to know how many of you are suckers like me spending money on schools you might not go too???

btw.. Jax is my top choice since I live here. If anyone has questions about this campus feel free to ask, I have visted a few times...

i have a deposit on another school. I'm an instate resident so if I am so lucky to get accepted I'm okay losing that deposit because UF doesn't require a deposit and in the long run it is a drop in the bucket compared to what I will be spending/saving at UF

I've given Nova $250 with another payment due on February 15.....so I'm really hoping to hear from UF before then so I don't have to make a $500 donation to a program I won't be attending (if I get into UF) lol. I think everyone is in the same boat with this, I wish schools were more uniform in the way they interviewed and accepted ppl so we wouldn't be stuck spending money on top of the already expensive application process...but what can you do. It could be worse, my roommate had to put down a $3000 deposit for dental school!

yeah still no news for me. I think most schools are pretty good about telling you if you are in or not if you call them/email them and tell them that you have a deposit due at another school right?

Apopka=a bad location. I live in Orlando right now, I live downtown and I love it. If I get into school though I'm going to have to find a cheaper place to live. I'm thinking probably the Winter Park area because it's right in the middle of everything/everyone, lots of things to do etc. I rather live in a better location to go out (if I ever have the time in school lol) and be close to friends and drive a little more to school.

I feel you on that one. I lived in Miami during undergrad and it was so expensive. I paid 1000/month + electric, cable, and internet. 🙁 Every pharmacy school I applied to has a cheaper cost of living luckily... St Pete, Bradenton, and Atlanta are all decently priced. I also applied to PBA which is the same as Miami, but it's closer to home so it's a trade off.

I absolutely love Winter Park!

anyone hear anything from the Jan 29 interview? The wait is killing me! they said this week so I've been just staring at my email today, hoping it comes!

Haven't heard anything yet either. I'm with you. They said this week and its Friday, so hopefully we get emails today!
😱

Man....I really want to know so bad, so that I can decline my seat at other schools....

nothing yet. I was freaking out as well since they said by the end of this week but at least no one else heard anything either.

Just got my letter of conditional acceptance!😀

I just got my letter also. It is going to be a big decision for me between UF and Mercer, but saving 60,000 in tuition alone may be the deciding factor for UF, even though i was placed at the orlando campus. But it doesnt seem too bad according to the people already there so i guess i wont be regretting my decision (thanks orlando P1 students for your inout). Good luck to everyone else that has interviewed!

Congratulations to all of you who got your letters! WOOHOO!

Just got my letter a bit ago as well!! Annddd already sent back my acceptance. It was my first choice so I am sooo excited! Congrats to everyone else too! :soexcited:

rrw57, the money was a big factor in my decision between UF and UNC too. In my opinion, you just can't beat a top-10 school with in-state tuition, good luck with your decision, they're both great schools! Congrats to everyone else who got accepted, hopefully I'll be seeing you all in the fall!

i too am struggling with this decision...

Just got my letter!!!! UF c/o 2014!!! yay!!!

input*** lol

rrw .... from the looks of your post I think we may have been at the Nova interview together and met again at the UF interview last week cause I remember talking to you about Mercer vs UF lol. Congrats on your acceptance! Are you 100% going to UF??

yay so happy for myself and everyone. Now it's time to get started on the all the paperwork 🙂

Hello,
I'm planning to apply to University of Florida next year. I'm from CA. Are there lots of out of state applicants? I want to know if I have a chance. I have a 3.5 GPA (haven't taken PCAT yet). Even though that's not bad, I'm afraid that all the OOS applicants are higher than mine such as 3.7-3.9.
And once you get an interview, you have a real high chance of getting in right? (According to the stats, 320 accepted/330 interviewed last year).
