Had my interview yesterday for San Marcos summer cohort. What a day hahaha. They really do try to make you feel relaxed the first thing they said was "OK you all made it, now lets all take a deep breath." (Seriously if you get the interview that means they want you! so don't get too stressed out. But if you do don't worry about it they expect that, if anything they would probably think its weird if you weren't stressed out a bit.... But anyway about the interview, it took about 4 hours, I interviewed with Dr. BurkeDoe (luckily i researched a lot about the san marcos faculty so I had some talking points and questions to ask her, she just presented with Dr.Ivey about concussions so i brought that up we had a good convo about that and the research, etc...) She has been around the block with PT, started geriatrics, now doing peds, and she does sports too, so I talked to her about how she transformed as a clinician over the years and what lead her to the next steps. (Honestly I was the one asking the most questions, she asked me two, why PT and the second I don't really remember, sorry haha it was a long day and we talked for about an hour). Anyway, I feel like it went well. I told her about my experience as a wellness exercise specialist and working with a diabetic client that after a year told me he walked up the stairs without holding onto the railing and looking at his feet for the first time, and she was like "omg stop you'll make me cry." So that made me feel really good. She kind of lit up a bit when I mentioned I was an wellness exercise specialist for 2 years she wrote that down on my sheet. .. But yeah IDK how to feel about her only asking me 2 questions. I killed it with my responses so maybe she was just like ok he's good. (i hope?) She asked the guy i was interviewing with like 5 questions, but really he didnt have too much enthusiasm or passion with what he was saying. He even asked "what is the point when people start to want to quit the program...?" I was kind of shocked by that, quitting didn't even cross my mind. I asked her questions like (what are some common traits amongst some of your most successful students, is there a possiblity of attending an apta conference, what were some of the things you did during your career that really set you apart from the rest and brought you to the next steps of your professional career.... Feel free to take those, she really liked my questions.) Let me know if anyone has any questions, and good luck to everyone who got interviews! Some advice, TELL A STORY. I think my story about my diabetic client really painted a good picture for her and it set a good tone for the rest of the interview.
Best of luck!
