University of St Augustine Spring 2019

Hey everyone! I originally applied for St Augustine Flex Fall 2018, but got accepted to the St Augustine Flex Spring 2019 cohort instead! Looks like most of you so far are staying close to location, but I will be flying in--not sure who else is going to be in the same boat as me. Congrats to everyone!

Congrats!! I got accepted to the St. Augustine Flex Spring 2019 as well so it looks like we'll be classmates! I won't be flying in, but I live about 3 hours away so I'll be making that commute every other weekend.

I haven't seen one for any schools either. Haven't received an email for the drug test and finger print stuff yet...
I called admissions today and she said we will get the email within the next couple weeks in regards to the drug test, fingerprint, etc. I'm ready to complete all this asap

Where did you go to pay your deposit? I haven't received an e-mail about paying it yet.
Did you check your junk mail or other mail folders? Mine appeared in my "other" folder with my username and password along with the link to the student portal USA page

I got an email day after being accepted about my USA portal info and paying the deposit! I would give them a phone call if you haven’t gotten one yet

Ya I called today as well.. I was told that because of the move to coral gables we can start paying and drug testing sept 15th.. so plenty of time

Hey congrats to everyone on their acceptances! I will be attending the DPT program @ Austin Spring 2019. The last emails I've gotten from USA have been about setting up my email. One of the forms in the folder from the interview stated everything on the clinical education list to be submitted 45 days after your acceptance. I found all of the info you need to complete it in my.usa.edu (they should've emailed you your login/password if you've paid your deposit). Then, you scroll over "More" towards the top/right of the page, click "Clinical Education", then "Student Resources & forms" on the left. All of the medical forms needed are listed including info on how to complete the background check, drug test, and finger prints.

I hope this helps!! I'm sure they'll email you with more information about it but if you don't want to take chances on the 45 day deadline like me I got started that way.

Also, during the interview day they said that our advisor or staff will email you about the facebook group to join for your program! I'm assuming that email will come once Fall semester has started and settled.

Thank you for this!!! I found the form and will start on Tuesday. Yeah I don't want to run the risk of that 45 day deadline

For everyone who got accepted into the St. Augustine Campus Spring 2019 start date, have you already started contacting and getting in touch with other people who are in our class?

I called on Friday and they will be sending us all of the information after the orientation for the Fall 2018 class. I would just be careful starting everything now, if I remember correctly they said that some of the stuff (such as the physical) must be completed within 45 days of the start of class, any sooner and it’ll have to be repeated. Congrats again everyone! We’re almost there 🙂

Hey guys,
Anyone starting at the San Marcos campus for the flex DPT program?

Hey guys! I just applied for the Fall 2019 class and was told I wasn't going to hear back about an interview until 6-8 weeks past the deadline (which is October 15). I received an invite for an interview for september 14th and I am super nervous. Does anyone who's already gone through the interview process have any tips on how I can prepare? Thanks!!

Hey everyone!! I have applied for spring 2019 for st Augustine. I just got an interview date on Sept 15th!! Super stoked for the opportunity. Any words of wisdom?? Possible questions they asked??

Thanks in advanced

Just be badasses in the interview process. There’s this bit that helped me out a lot in getting accepted

Here what I have used for my interview, these are series of questions that I have found from this forum. Hope this helps and Good Luck!

My Essay Question, " why do you want to become a PT and list 3 individuals who inspired you, be specific....something like this. Don't forget to prepare yourself regarding "healthcare issue" type of question.

Interview
professionalism is desired at this school so start off by dressing well, smiling, and trying to make good eye contact (the obvious stuff). But more than that, one of the interview questions asked was: what does professionalism mean to you? or something along those lines. The interview is done in a group, at mine their was one other applicant, a professor, and another part-time prof. who also was a local practitioner. The interviewers would take turns asking questions, and took turns in addressing myself or the other applicant. Here is a list of both questions asked in my interview, and potential questions asked by USA ad-com I gathered on this forum.

  • Why do you want to be a PT?
  • Why did you choose to apply to our school?
  • What stands out to you about this program over others?
  • What did you like most about your observation hours? Least?
  • How will you handle the stress/course load of the program?
  • Name a time when you failed, how did you handle it?
  • Chunky or creamy peanut butter? Haha, they really asked me that!
  • what would you bring to a picnic?
  • What would I do if someone offered me a copy of an upcoming test?
  • what would you do if while attending PT school you caught a friend of yours cheating on an exam?
  • How would you feel if Government tried to pass a national anti-smoking law?
  • If you wanted to change someones opinion, what would you do?
  • What are some things that you have NOT liked in your volunteer/work experience in the PT field?
  • What is a time in your life that your integrity was challenged and you had to demonstrate leadership?
  • name a time you struggled and what you did to overcome it?
  • what was your most challenging course in school and how did you adapt to it?
  • Define integrity.
  • name a difficult situation and how you handled it
  • how do you handle stress and when do you know you are stressed
  • do you feel you lead a healthy lifestyle
  • what is a time when you changed your priorities/view points about something
  • what's your favorite food?
  • what was an obstacle in your life and how we overcame it?
  • what did we consider leadership and an example?
  • then we were given 3 scenarios one of us a had a patient who was a smoker..one was over weight..and one did not do home exercises and we had to reply with how we would approach the patient and help change their bad habits
  • finally what is one of our weaknesses?
  • Describe a current political issue in healthcare/physical therapy?
  • what about physical therapy interests you?
  • Do you work better in a group or by yourself and why?

They will probably not ask you these exact questions but you can get from this the type of questions they ask: how you handle stress, ethics, ability to reflect on past experiences and learn from them, some funny/light-hearted questions, stuff on the school, something about if you work well in a group, some questions just to get to know who you are, and why you are interested in PT.

Essay
You are assigned an essay statement or question and given some time to compose a response. You are given about 45 minutes I believe. My essay question was:what does the phrase "quality of life" mean to you, and how does it relate to healthcare. Other questions that I have gathered from this forum are:

  • what is more important to you, the science or the art of physical therapy?
  • What have you done to demonstrate your commitment to pursuing a career in PT?
  • What is the most important quality for a PT to posses?
  • What do you think will be the biggest ethical question you face as a PT over the next decade?
  • what will you contribute to your fellow students?

... no essay questions.. they did away with those a while back.
It’s an hour of orientation.. then half of the group tours the campus while the other split into groups of 2 or 3 to interview with a professor who asks you a lot of the same questions above as well as

.Name a class that you stuggled with and how u overcame it
.what about this DPT program will u look forward to the most, what will u least look forward to? (Say somethin about not spending time with family, that’s what I should have said)

Basically what I did was write down every answer to all of these questions before the interview, studied them, then rehearsed them in front of my family numerous times to get comfortable. Helped a LOT.. I knew every answer to every question he asked.

That and smile a lot a be friendly/interested/ engaged and whatnot

U already got what it takes to be there obviously.. they just wanna know your comfortable to be around

Just prepare and breathe.. yuh got this😉

I completely agree with everything dannymangs said. What i did that really helped was I did as much research as I could for possible interview questions. The week and definitely night before just go over some questions and rehearse what you would say. Just speak with confidence and don't get too nervous. Try to just say what first comes to mind, even if you didn't rehearse the kind of question. The other girl I interviewed with spoke for a long time, but sometimes my answer was half if not shorter than the length of hers. So just remember it's not quantity over quality. Even if your answer is simple it may be a good one. Just be yourself! ... and smile!

I definetly agree with all the interview advice!! To add on: I think it's important to do your research on the school & find specific reasons as to what makes that school stand out to you. Mention specific partnerships or volunteer work or research USA does that you're interested in, it'll make you stand out more than simply saying, "I like their core values". Dig deeper on their website or their social media! You guys got this!! 🙂

Thanks so much for the input. If you guys don’t mind me asking what backgrounds are everyone coming from?

I'd just calm down for the interview. They just wanna make sure you can be a normal person and hold a conversation. All they know about you before that is your stats. Just be personable and have the mindset that they should want you to go to their school not the other way around.

Undergrad: Exercise science, Masters: Athletic training. The best advice I can give for the interview is not to over think things when you get there. You will hear over and over from both the faculty and current students not to stress about the interview and or make a competition with the other person you're interviewing with. Now that I've gone through the process myself, I see exactly why they made those statements. Keep in mind, you've made it this far so they like you on paper already. Now the question is, are you personable and show the skills to work with others for a common goal. Best of luck and keep us posted!!! Hopefully, we can be classmates lol

I have a Bachelors in Biology with below average stats (3.1 cumGPA, ~3.3 prereqGPA, 152Q, 149V 4.0 GRE). I think my strong points were in volunteering/extracurriculars. But everyone is different & that's the wonderful thing about the application process! I think USA does a great job of looking at everyone's applications holistically 🙂

Yeah pretty much this. I didn’t really do much preparing at all for it, I just brought some things back to mind like past experiences in clinics and stuff going on in the world of PT that I’m interested in and issues that may be prevalent today. I had my interview with the dean of the campus himself and it was totally fine so I’m sure it’s the same across the board

3.2 cGPA, ~3.6 prereq GPA, 161V/158Q and 4.5 writing, 100 hours observing and decent amount of campus involvement from undergrad. Pretty embarrassed by my cGPA because I didn’t study at all and I had to retake a few classes to bump up my prereqs but it is what it is. I think what got me in was my GRE score and some leadership roles I had in undergrad. Being exposed to the PT world for a while now because of my sister and brother-in-law probably helped too, I made sure to mention that they were both PTs in my interview

Forgot to mention, B.S. in Kinesiology

Thanks so much for the input. If you guys don’t mind me asking what backgrounds are everyone coming from?

3.3 undergrad
3.4ish pre req
309 gre with a 4 in writing
FSU BS science
400+ shadowing hours in 5 different settings
highschool bball

Hope my low gpa also gives you hope, but think of it as an even playing field for the interview process, with your personality and general confidence being the deciding factor.

But like MBPB said, just relax and you'll be fine. As long as you prepare like milt88, humerus_pt, and thebrodie said, you should straight.

Congrats! And the one thing I was told before my interview and that I really valued was to ask questions. Questions show you’re interested, rather than simply being present!

Good luck 🙂

Anyone know if you can switch campuses before the term starts, without going thru the whole application process again?

Very cool!! I am a fellow ATC and went to PTA school to move up in the company and now I want more lol I really enjoy the PT world. And forever changing and always getting better.. I appreciate the words. Would be awesome if we were classmates

Yeah, I'm wishing you all the best and keep me posted if you do!!! I'm sure we can go back and forth on stories as being ATCs and the profession as a whole. I'm glad to hear you want more too, future study partners for sure lol

Does anyone remember which things on the non-negotiable list they said would be better to wait until near the start date to do? Because it says everything’s due within 45 days so I’m not too sure

No clue!! I've been patiently waiting for this email they are supposed to send us but it's getting close to the "within 45 days" deadline from getting my acceptance. I'm not trying to have to rush to get everything done because they couldn't give us the information we needed soon

Not an ATC, but I am also a PTA who got accepted for spring 2019; best of luck with your interview!!!

Yeah, i'm like three days off of the 45 day deadline but still haven't heard back. I'm also leaving on vacation for three weeks next week so I'm not sure how much i'll be able to get done. I did get started with gathering my immunization records and taking the classes, but haven't done anything else.

There were classes we had to take too?

I wouldn't worry. I called the school to ask. They said because they are doing new student orientation, and are getting Fall 2018 class settled, we will get the email around the 15th of September. We won't be penalized because we don't have any of the information to do what we need to do. Once we get the email on our student email address we can start knocking everything out. The lady was very nice, and said not to stress.

That's awesome, I had them through red cross 🙁 haha
I'm still confused why it matters so much honestly. I use to be through red cross as well and the company I work for now made me change earlier this year as well

Woww!!!!!! that's crazy. Do you feel ready to hit the ground running so soon???
I live extremely close to campus so I think it will be fine and I was retaking 2 classes anyway, but ya the first couple days will be a shock for sure I think. I'm ready though!
