University of Toronto Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those who applied for OSAP, did you apply as full-time students or as graduate (this might be the case if the program's name changes to PharmD right?)... I don't know which to apply as, and I don't know if you can change it later on..

Can we not turn this into a UW vs UofT debate? We should be discussing benefits and drawbacks.

I can't see how you got that from my post. I don't care about the UW vs. U of T debate at all.

Even if you are in a co-op program, you probably won't end up making more than $9,000 per term. Not to mention, you have to pay your tuition 8 months before you get your first paycheck. Especially if you're renting in a different city, etc... it is far short of covering your expenses. Really, you'll still need to borrow money from a bank, which is what the poster was concerned about.

It's still BscPhm.

It wouldn't change to PharmD in the middle of a school year...

sigh... we have 2 hours left until Waterloo's offer expires. I just have the hardest time declining their offer on Quest, it just feels bad specially considering this would be the second time I have to turn down an offer from Waterloo 🙄

hi there! I want to get an advice from you guys about the PCAT.

DOes U of T pharmacy only look at best PCAT score? or the lastest PCAT score??cause I noticed that even if you take PCAT multiple times all the scores are sent to the school.
Best pCAT score provided it's been done within 2 years.

Should be just full-time students far as I know since its still a bachelor atm.

You applied to Waterloo before? 😕

Hi Guys,
This is my first message in this forum. i am in waiting list of u of t . Just wanted to get your views that if i have a chance of getting in. 60 to 70 people declining offer seems a bit to much for me to get in..

I believe he chose UofT over UofW. They both have their advantages/disadvantages 🙂

Well, when I was applying for univ. back in grade 12 I applied for Waterloo's Architecture program...

Hi Guys,
This is my first message in this forum. i am in waiting list of u of t . Just wanted to get your views that if i have a chance of getting in. 60 to 70 people declining offer seems a bit to much for me to get in..

Well, each year a good number of people get off the wait list. You didn't say your top half or bottom half. If you're top half, then I'd say you have a very descent shot at getting in... best advise would be to stay positive and just enjoy your summer for now. And don't expect to hear too soon from UofT, sometimes people hear by late August or even early September.

Good luck !

Well, when I was applying for univ. back in grade 12 I applied for Waterloo's Architecture program...
oh, I see. Architecture is pretty cool, thought about it myself but I dunno if I would like to be crazy critiqued for my drawings 😛

Here are my stats as someone who was accepted this cycle. For the students of the future 😛

In province student

Cgpa 87%

PCAT – 83% comp and 3/3, I got 24 in RC but 99 in Chem. My pcat scores were all over the place but I guess it was good enough. This was my first attempt at PCAT. I’m happy I don’t have to repeat the test again, I found the ~4h exam very draining. Don’t write this test without preparing, it’ll be a waste of time (it’s a hard test imo). Time is extremely limited.

MMI – I actually thought this was fun! I thought I did well on most of the stations except for a couple that were a little weak and by weak I mean I didn’t have that much to say. I unfortunately never peeked over to see what the interviewers had marked me. I quite enjoyed myself though. As other people on this forum have stated, the best way to do it is to just be yourself, which is kind of awesome right? I suppose the best way to prepare is probably to practice speaking about a topic/issue out loud. Check out practice MMI questions online. Also, U of T makes you sit through this orientation, which takes one hour prior to your interview… I think that waiting was the worst part of it. Haha

I’m so late posting this but better late than never. I also did a UW post for my UW specific stats. These posts are my way of giving back to the forum. Good luck to all future applicants!

Haha, actually, the critiquing part is the most enjoyable to me (both critiquing others' work, and being critiqued) 😛 But meh, pharmacy started to make way more sense as I did more research... hope I made the right choice 😉

kk, I guess its not THAT bad 😛 Well, I'm sure you'll find out soon enough 😉

Those people who are from Uoft, do we need to do anything on ROSI or will time come and pharmacy courses get automatically added?

I think the timetable is already set for you since everyone is taking the same thing, so you don't have to pick courses from ROSI. (Thank God)!!

It says somewhere one the FAQ section of your letter to delete ALL arts and sciences course registrations on ROSI... that's all you need to do, i think, at this moment!

I'm not from UofT though, so hopefully someone from UofT can verify this.

Hello everyone, I posted this on facebook regarding CPR, so please reply to e-mail if this interests you:

I can now accommodate up to 65 people on Sept. 1st and 2nd, but I do not think I will be able to hold them on the Saturday and the Sunday (Sept. 3rd and 4th). This company allows me to hold classes at PB instead of an offsite location. In o...rder to guarantee these dates, I need confirmation of at least 50 people. To gauge these numbers, I'm going to ask that you send an e-mail to [email protected], with "CPR INTEREST CONFIRMATION: (Name)" in the subject line. Please note this is not a reservation, and this is only to gauge interest to make sure this class is a go.

I will not hold reservations until we release the UPS mailout online, only to be fair to those who do not have facebook. However if everyone on here can do that Sept 1st and 2nd (more than 50), then I can book the 1st and 2nd for all of you. The remaining people, if there is interest, I may have to book for them during the school year.

and please remember, this is a THURSDAY AND A FRIDAY, Sept. 1st and 2nd. Thanks all =)

guys since we are taking 12 courses are we 120% course load for OSAP?

I don't think so, I remember taking 6 credits last year and I put down 120%, but OSAP people at my school said we should always put 100% regardless of any course-overload.

Also, OSAP knows how much tuition we'll be paying, and all those 12 courses are factored into that one tuition... point is that we're not paying "extra" on top of the tuition for taking those courses!

Hope this makes sense.

Agree with helloeveryone. Keep in mind it's also a professional program that has a set tuition and courseload- you're not in undergrad anymore 😀 so the same rules simply don't apply

thanks for the reply... i am in upperhalf of the waitlist. I cant figure out the reason for not being selected
my pcat composite is 80 and met all the requirements
cgpa 93% with 97% in chemistry and i thought my interview also went well.. i am loosing hope now and i think have to consider other options for next year as it seems a bit impossible that 60-70 people will drop or reject the offer

The whole tuition being so high because its a professional program is bull****. The Ontario Veterinary College at U of G is only like $4000 per YEAR and they get a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

GOT IN at UBC, my first choice and will reject UofT. Congrats to whoever is next on the waitlist..

Is there a registration fee for phrosh week?

Yes, the fee for phrosh week is $100. This includes participation at all events, plus admission to the annual Phrosh Banquet which takes place in the middle of September. You can see the phrosh events at www.phrosh.uoftpharmacy.com. The Phrosh Banquet is an event attended by the Dean, Associate Dean, and many professors. This is an excellent way to first introduce yourself to the professors. There are also some guest speakers from the pharmacy community in Ontario, in addition to some representatives from the OPA and OCP. You'll also have your class council announced at this banquet, as voting takes place during the day. Lastly, there's also a dance which you won't want to miss.

That's not bad at all! Thanks 🙂

Phrosh sounds awesome.

Is it possible to attend the Phrosh Banquet without having attended Phrosh Week? My family is planning a trip for late August/early Sept. and I'm quite worried we wouldn't make it back until halfway through Phrosh Week.

Also, a little belated, but congrats to those who've received offers! Good luck to those on the waitlist - hang in there! :xf:

Congrats on getting into UBC 🙂

hmm, I partly agree. I guess since its a professional program, they feel the need to charge more. I can see why it would cost more, but, I don't see why it would be 14k instead of 10k or like UofA, 6k 👎

Don't give up hope. If you are in the upperhalf of the waitlist, you still have a chance of getting accepted. So far, I think I've read about 3 ppl on SDN rejecting their offer, so, there is still a chance 🙂

does anyone else share a sense of urgency for an out of province upper half wait lister that is anxious about applying for loans?

I couldn't seem to find a deadline to apply for OSAP. I hope a late application for loan approval won't be an issue in the event that admission is offered as late as september...

are there many out of province students, by the way?

from vancouver (originally edmonton)

Yeah I'm coming from Vancouver.

And if you're from Van, you wouldn't apply for OSAP.

Lol yeah. Don't worry. I'm trying to figure all this student loan stuff out too. First time I'm getting one. It's a bit confusing. :S

I'm putting more thought into hiding my money and finding jobs that will pay under the table to dodge audits and possibly claim more money. debt sucks

"the Bank of Nova Scotia has made a line of credit available to qualified students under the Scotia Professional Plan for Students . The University will provide a grant to cover interest on loans borrowed under this Plan up to the level of the assessed unmet need. "

Can anyone provide further clarification, does this essentially mean interest free Scotia line of credit? Any catches to this?

A few related questions. Will the University only cover interest on the Scotia Line of Credit even though National Bank has a lower interest rate? Also, will they only cover interest on money you take out for that year or the length of the loan?

What's the interest rate for National Bank? When I asked about line of credit for pharm students, it was prime+1%, 0.5% higher than what's offered at Scotia.??

They offer prime + 0.0%. It's their best rate, reserved for healthcare professional students.

In fact I've already been approved at that rate but I haven't signed the paperwork yet. I'm wondering if U of T only has this deal with Scotiabank and in that case it might make sense to go with them.

Interesting.... When I asked about prime+0% interest because I thought I read it somewhere, the person at the bank was insisting that it was only for students in medicine... Perhaps I should go to a different branch.

Ya I don't think they get many customers taking advantage of this plan. The person I spoke to had to read up on it herself before confirming the rate and amount with me. She was actually surprised that the bank was giving such a good deal. Prime rates are usually reserved for the banks best customers who have assets, I'm sure they are not used to offering it to students with little income and no assets. But its nice to see that they think pharmacists are really low risk borrowers.

Submitted my acceptance form in person this morning and got updated on PharmSIS already!

I THINK it's possible, I'm just not sure of the cost. What are the dates of your trip?

We would likely be back on Sept. 7 or 8. I suppose it might be best to reconsider the trip timeframe altogether...

hmm, interesting. Does that mean that the interest rate is equal to prime and how does it work because it says annually on their website? Unfortunately, I don't recall my math for interest rates anymore when it comes to annual ones

Hey guys,
Do any of you have a link to UofT's old curriculum, I want to see it so I can compare it to ours but I can't seem to find it; I could be going blind though 😉 If anyone has it can you please share it 🙂 thx
