UPenn c/o 2015

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
OK, I finally got my snail mail letter.... complete with items missing.🙁 I have a receipt indicating that they really should have my GRE scores, but more frighteningly, I missed some fine print on who my letters of rec must come from when I was applying. So I need to talk to them ASAP to see if an exception can be made, and if not see what the options are or if my application is dead in the water.😡 I am so mad at myself for this potentially fatal error. Now I worry that I have messed something else up if not there, then somewhere else. Boo.

Apparently I need to be checking my snail mail more often, just got my letter that arrived two days ago 🙁 have one transcript missing; hopefully my request gets there soon!

gone2dogs, dont fret! they seem to be pretty understanding about these kind of things!

Just a few weeks before apps were due I found out that I needed study abroad grades "translated" by a third party company since the grading scale was different (haven't these people heard of google?!? save me some money, come on!). I frantically called the schools I was applying to, and UPenn seemed the most relaxed about stuff coming in late. The guy I talked to literally said "we aren't touching anything until december, so it really doesn't matter if pieces come in late, so long as they're here by december." I wouldn't fret about missing pieces, they seem pretty understanding.

Yup!

They are also nice about moving your interview date. Some schools have a mandatory date and WILL NOT move it for you but Penn will let you switch yours. However, don't try it more than once because they will NOT let u switch multiple times lol They give you a one time switch so that if the school is your IS but it is on the same day then you have a chance at that. This happened with me last year and i was SO thankful!! 😀

I didn't receive a letter in the mail yet with the status of my application so I called UPenn today to ask what was up. They checked my file and said that they had all of my materials and that they had sent out my letter electronically a while ago. He said that I should check my spam box it might be there. Well, it's not in the spam box. I check that daily for these types of emails.

But the real question is...why did everyone get letters in the mail and they're claiming that they sent mine via email? I know this is a silly thing to be concerned about, but I am!!

Also, he said that when they invite people for interviews if the they don't hear a confirmation for the interview they will start calling in order to get in touch. Which is good since apparently I don't get any materials from them.

I also received my status update via email. This is my third time applying and I have received it both in the mail and by email. Not to worry!

You just made me feel way better! I hadn't heard of anyone else getting the email until now. (Or well in my case lack thereof) Thanks! 🙂

I got mine via email too several weeks ago. I was actually pretty worried when people started to wonder where their confirmations were/started receiving them via snail mail. lol

I got mine in my email, but started getting worried when people were receiving stuff via snail mail. Is this a preference that people set beforehand?

when I applied you got something in the mail if you were missing something, but an email if you weren't. So it might be something like that again.

I got a letter stating that they're missing a transcript, but it wasn't in my mailbox until Friday, Nov 19th... right as schools went on week-long Thanksgiving breaks! Since they start reviewing in December, it would have been nice to be able to do something about this before November 29th. Thanks for the added stress!

Anyways, I called the school Monday to verify that they sent the transcript, and not only did she tell me when and where it was sent, she also had a postcard from Penn saying they got the transcript SEPTEMBER 13! So where could it be? I put in both a phone call and an email Monday. I just hope there's no screw-up with my eligibility because of a mistake on their end. Especially since it was a transcript from a community college where I took a single class over the summer of 2003. Real important stuff, right?

Man, that's at least 4 of us who have had 'missing' GRE scores or transcripts that we have evidence were sent.

Maybe they have a new, less than motivated, undergrad working on filing .

And yes, I think everyone with missing items got a snail mail mid-November with a card saying what was missing. It seems like everyone with a completed app got an email.

Thanks for all of your encouraging and helpful posts. Did they let you know an approximate start date for interviews?

I'm not sure because i'm not part of the admissions committee. But I am the VP of our class so I should hear behind the scenes stuff. My guess though is that things will go out while we're on break (break starts Dec 13-Jan 3) so they'll probably go out before I'm back at school to know exact dates. I know last year the first interviews were at the end of Dec, majority in Jan-Feb, with large animal interview at the very end (either late feb or beginning march).

oh wow, i just realized if they do have the first set of interviews at the end of Dec i won't be here to meet you guys. But who knows, maybe it will be diff this year and they will start in Jan.

anyway, this is all me making assumptions lol but i know u guys would rather here assumptions than nothing!

Thanks for keeping us posted, Blackat! It's super helpful!! 😀

You should check back in the 2014 interview thread to get an idea of dates..

I received a January 8th interview and received my notice IN THE MAIL. The letter was dated December 8th. It came very shortly after that (don't exactly recall).

So.....some of you could be hearing something in a week or so if things are similar again this year.

Just remember to be careful what you ask for..... you may get it. 😱

And now back to my previously scheduled cramming of biochem for the exam tomorrow.

Yup they should be coming soonish!

I did hear that things were going to be a bit later this year, in that I don't think there will be any December interviews. I was in the same interview group as StartingOverVet and I just checked my email and I got the email for my interview on December 8th for a January 8th interview! AHHH how exciting for you guys! They must be getting ready to send them out soon 🙂

We have finals coming up next week so I'm not sure if they'll push them back until we're done with finals (Dec 13th) but they must be coming soon!

Good luck everyone I love Penn! (but I didn't make admissions committee, so I won't get to meet most of you...until you start in the fall)

This might help...from the acknowledgment letter emailed to me...

"Interview invitations are sent out weekly from late December through March, with at least two weeks' advance notice of the interview date. Those applicants whom we believe are less academically qualified will begin to hear from us as soon as we can determine their comparative ranking with other applicants. In short, we do not interview nor do we accept all at one time. It is a four-month process. "

So it's looking like the end of December!

Another plug for Penn is I think the vet students here are really great. People are almost uniformly supportive/caring etc. Haven't seen any sign of competitiveness and very little drama. I got the impression that at a few others schools there's a bit more immaturity. Of course, maybe I am just deaf, dumb, and blind, but it seems like a great group.

Must say I was disappointed that there was no "inappropriate" clothing worn to classes here.

And Gella, I voted for you!

nm... i had a bad day at school and was going to comment on "immaturity" but then figured i wouldn't. don't want crazy people tracking me down and reporting me to the honor board or something (not that i said anything that was against the honor code or anything).

Always tempting, isn't it? 😉

Well, it turned out my evidence stated that I sent it to the wrong code... the funny thing is that when I called they guy knew exactly which wrong code I used. I know I didn't make up the number, but now I don't know where I got it from. But apparently it was my fault, after all.

In other brighter news, my application was looking like it was either dead in the water, or likely thrown out without much consideration, but I was able to work it out with them. Again, the problem was my fault.

But after all that stress, I can say that the gentleman I worked with was absolutely wonderful. Nice, helpful, understanding, etc. Big thumbs up for him!!!

Getting excited and nervous to hear more!

G2D... I think I talked to the same guy yesterday. He's so great! He called and told me they found my missing transcript, filed under my maiden name. I was tempted to point out to him that this is precisely why the application asks for other names under which our transcripts/GREs might be listed, but I refrained since he was nice. After all, I know other schools sent stuff under that name because I wasn't married until grad school. Anyone there paying attention?

However, around the same time he called me (I mean within minutes), I got an email from somebody else in that office saying that they couldn't find it and I'd need to pay to have it re-sent. Communicate much? I love the idea of going to Penn, but disorganization makes me want to pull my hair out!

Hi guys! I've never written on a thread before, so I hope I'm doing this right... but UPenn is my top choice, and I'm OOS so I'm really nervous!! Someone said that LA don't have interviews until the spring, does that mean I won't hear anything from UPenn for a few months (I'm LA)?? There's too much stressful waiting!! Thanks so much!!

definitely don't hold your breath. The LA interview is the LAST ONE lol. I'm just not sure when they notify people about their interview. I'm pretty sure you still hear later than other SA people who interview earlier. I'd take a look at the "official interview invites c/o 2014" thread and scroll thru the penn interviews. The ones with the last interview date will be the LA group (assuming at least 1 SDN person was at the LA interview) and then next to the interview date you can also see the day they got their invitation

Thanks so much! I'll check that out, keeping my fingers crossed! At least I know not to freak out if I don't hear back from them for a while...

My friends on the admissions committee said the first interview date should start the first Friday of Jan. which means invites should have also been sent out and will continue to be sent out for many months!

Thanks for the info! Last year invites went out via email... should we expect they same do you think?

Me too! It's nice to know that my obsession isn't abnormal; or is it?

Obsessing is totally normal. If you need proof, read the thread "You know the application process is driving you crazy when..."

My invitation was via email. Not sure how they will do it this year, but if they haven't sent the letters in the mail yet they are pretty screwed with notifying people a couple weeks in advance so they'd have no choice but to email lol not sure...

But also, don't get your hopes up that the invite may come within 2 weeks, because the interviews range ~3 months and the invites also range that span too.

Thank you! I'll try to keep this in mind in a couple weeks if I don't hear back!

I'm here freaking out/obsessively checking everything as well! Thanks so much for keeping us in the loop blackat!! If it weren't for SDN I think I'd be even more nutty!

Even though it's the weekend, I've been neurotically checking my mailbox (even though I got the mail yesterday already and there's no mail delivery today...what if I somehow over-looked something??) and e-mail... including my spam folder but everything is empty (or really junk).

Don't worry, I'm doing the same thing. And anyone who thought I was bad yesterday; they should see me today!:lame:

Does anyone know if Penn is flexible with their interview dates? My friends are planning a cruise during spring break (early march) and I'm not sure if I should commit. I know LA is last.. I'm mixed, so I don't know where that puts me. Suggestions?

well i think mixed is put into regular admission....but it really depends on what you said in your application/personal statement.

Penn is flexible on interview dates...if you need to go to another interview (your in state) or some REALLY IMPT event/close death.

A vacation doesn't seem to cut it for me (and i dont think they'd be happy either). When i applied i didnt bother taking any vacation because there is no way to predict what will happen. And to think that if you picked going on vacation vs. an interview...well i dont know how id defend myself if they found out..

I'm in a similar situation. My friend is getting married on a cruise during the first weekend in February and I'm a bridesmaid. I tried to convince her to make it later in the season but she declined to do so. Fortunately, the cruise is relatively inexpensive and I don't need to fly to get to the port (hooray for living in south Florida!). I told her that if I get a vet school interview that weekend I'll call and try to change it but that if they won't let me change it I will be going to the interview instead of her wedding.

You could always do the same thing for your cruise. I know spring break cruises are much more expensive so you'd be losing more money, but if vet school won't change the interview date then I'd forfeit the money in a second!

I was reviewing the dates of last year's interview invites and they seemed to have been sent out once a week on Tuesdays, 12/8, 12/15, 12/22... not that it'll be exactly the same this year, but gives me something to keep checking.

I did this too. They seem to like Tuesdays? Maybe today? 😱

I hate not knowing whether they are sending them via email or snail mail this year... GOING CRAZY!

Oh don't worry, I would NEVER EVER go on the cruise over taking the interview. I guess the question is whether or not I want to bet a few hundred dollars ('cause I'd be out the money if I had to go to the interview) that a) I don't get an interview or b) it's another week. I wouldn't call to reschedule for a vacation, but I was wondering if they were flexible as far as.. giving you multiple dates to choose from. I know some other schools let you choose.
The chances that I get an interview there AND that it's that week just seem so slim that it might be worth risking it. It would suck if I didn't go AND didn't get an interview. Ahh the joys of the application process.

I was looking at the official invites, and someone got an email from Penn today!!!!!
Congrats Science247!!!
For the rest of us, AAAHHHHHH:scared::scared::scared:!!!
