Why wednesdays? do they only send emails once a week?

YAYYY ITS STARTED!!! i can't wait to meet all of you!! 😀 i'm reallly looking forward to the first week of school and the first day of interviews!!

I guess i'll start recruiting for the happy hr now...COME TO HAPPY HR!! every friday at 5pm in the student lounge, so it is right after you finish interviews! drinks are 1-2$, we also have non-alcoholic stuff. and be prepared to meet everyones doggies there too!!

Why wednesdays? do they only send emails once a week?

based on last year, Penn seems to send out "batches" of email invites on a consistent weekly basis...so I pretty much just assumed that would be the case. Some others have posted on this above....

hey guys, i have a question. does anyone know the stats for penn for number of applications, to number of interviews, to number accepted? number accepted doesn't really matter because we know the class size, but i was really curious to know how many people they interview out of the whole applicant pool, then how many out of those they go on to accept.

Last year they said 50% of the people interviewed were given offers, but it was clear to me that the earlier interview dates had higher than 50% offers.

great thank you! that is exactly what i was wondering. gahhhh i'm soo nervous!

Congrats Cats^3!! 😀 (there needs to be a high five smiley! Or I need to stop over using smileys...) It's exciting to see everything moving along! Although I'm mostly LA, so IF I were to get an interview, it will be a long wait still.

:highfive:

looks like Penn is shaking things up this year.. I just got an invite this morning for the 14th of January! So keep an eye on your inboxes! (not that i really needed to tell any of you that 🙂

Congrats tigerlily! Are you IS or OOS? (Sorry if you mentioned this somewhere, I'm on SDN on my phone)

In previous years it looked almost like rolling admissions week to week interviewing two people for every one the admitted --> so to comment on people thinking of requesting a change of date: if you get pushed back a week or two, your odds could dramatically change

good luck to those hearing back from Penn!

Allow me to use my newfound smiley abilities (thanks BlackKat!) to say :highfive: tigerlily!!

:xf:for all of us still waiting, too!

thanks! i'm an OOS. going to post that on the official invite thread right now..

Yay! Congrats on your interviews guys! I can't believe it's that time of the year again already! Def plan on coming to the happy hours afterwards! It's so much fun and we would love to meet you, welcome you, and make you want to come to pennvet even more! Especially fellow SDNers 🙂

Sorry if this question has been asked before but: does Penn typically interview OOS before IS or do interviews go out at random?
This is what admissions says:
"Interview invitations are sent out weekly from late December through March, with at least two weeks' advance notice of the interview date. Those applicants whom we believe are less academically qualified will begin to hear from us as soon as we can determine their comparative ranking with other applicants. In short, we do not interview nor do we accept all at one time. It is a four-month process."

The above leads me to believe that the IS/OOS thing is less of a concern from an interview invite standpoint than is getting the candidates they are most excited about interviews first...Even though I have definitely read posts in the past that indicate IS people were interviewed first, this does not the case this year based on the above (from the "confirmation" letter sent out in Nov) PLUS the fact that the few SDNers that have received interview invites are all OOS (I'm pretty sure....). Being an ISer myself, I'd like to think we would get earlier invites 🙂 but, alas, does not seem to be the case.

Hope that helps!!

Fingers remaining perpetually crossed!

Just curious-- is anyone else from the forum interviewing on Jan 14?

As far as I know they mix it up IS/OOS. They seem to split it up somewhat by type of interest (since they take the large animal people out to New Bolton) and who knows what else.

Unless you're Large Animal. No matter how stellar you are, your interview invite won't come until late because you'll be in the groups that go out to New Bolton.

Just didn't want the LA folks to think they weren't at the top of the list for admissions because they won't hear for a long time yet.😍

Congrats to those who got interviews.

Still waiting out here . . . so nervous :scared:

Don't panic, kids! 😀 Remember, invites will continue to go out for a LONG time yet. Last year the last set wasn't sent until early Feb, so there's plenty more where those came from.

I'm so excited! it's my first vet school interview 🙂 anyone going Jan. 21st?

I've been tracking the interview invites page closely (ok maybe obsessively 😳)

and so far it looks like Wednesdays really are going to be the days for the invites (just saw the first one go up on the list today)

anyone know if they send out the invites all at the same time or throughout the day?

Best of luck to everyone and happy holidays.

I'm glad you asked this, because I was wondering the same thing.
I'm getting a little crazed too.

I got an interview invitation today from Upenn for January 28! They sent that out super early! I get 1 month to prepare for it🙂

I am uber excited! Good luck to those who are still waiting to hear! It is still very early in the game!

🙂

I also got an interview invitation for January 28th! Unfortunately, I have another interview scheduled that day, and VMRCVM is notorious for NOT changing dates. Hopefully Penn will let me move my date up a week. I can't believe we're hearing from them already. I had prepared myself to not hear for another two months!

Penn allowed me to change my interview date because vmrcvm wouldn't. They are really nice about it. Just don't try to change it twice!!!!!!!!! They will get offended and not schedule you again lol

Thanks BlacKAT33! I waited a few days to contact them so I would have my work schedule to MAKE SURE I could suggest dates that I could actually attend. I appreciate your heads up!

I have an interview date for January 7th! Eek! Very nervous! Any advice?

No need to be nervous. Penn's interview style is pretty laid back. Be yourself, be honest, and you should have no problem.

Just make sure to be courteous, etc to the vet students because they have 'input' in the process.

If you are interviewing that early you probably are a great applicant.

Remain calm and be yourself! Remember that everyone just wants to get to know you. Good luck!

i'm driving myself crazy being hopeful for an interview...

Same here! I think about 50% of the time, my phone hasn't actually vibrated though I SWEAR I felt it vibrate. This is up from about 5% before applying to vet school.

I'm feeling the same way as you guys!
I drove home from my parents house today, and the first thing I did when I got home was get on the computer to check my email. The entire drive I was certain that I would come home to hear of others interview invites on SDN!!!
Going crazy too!🤣

I'm just so impatient but I want to know already:xf:.......Maybe good news will come after the new year? (On a side note, although I didn't apply specifically large animal [I applied exotics/aquatic], would I be in the large animal pool? Those interviews are later, right?)

Good luck to all who have interviews already!!

The offices at the vet school were dark today. I would be shocked if you hear anything this week. I think the admin/faculty are all on break as well.
Thank you so much for this! We are lucky to have you on SDN!

I debated answering this, but I will answer it because I would want to know if I were you. I also applied exotics/aquatic and have an interview for 1/7, so it appears they do not consider this large animal. But I would definitely not worry! It is very early on and it appears they are picking a really random assortment of IS/OOS and stated specialties for each interview date. This really is such a random and frustrating process. I hope you get an invite as soon as they are back in the office! Good luck :luck: and 👍👍👍👍 for aquatic animal medicine!

Thanks for responding! I would much rather know than not 😀 Best of luck to you!! If you wouldn't mind, let me know how it goes (via PM or whatever you prefer)!! I think it would be nice to get an interview from my IS at least, but I wasn't 100% keen on going with UPenn yet. 👍:xf::luck: I'll be thinking of you that Friday! As well as everyone else that has an interview that day!!! Happy thoughts to all!!!

Large animal day is for people interested in equine and/or food animal, specifically.

Also, some advice: Be prepared to recognize the fact that Penn does not have any sort of strength in aquatic animal med. That is, don't say that you want to go to Penn because you specifically want to be an aquatic animal vet. Opportunities to really get involved in these areas lie outside of Penn's curriculum (ie. Aquavet seminars, special species club, etc).
