Hello all, I've been a superstitious lurker for the past few weeks. I got my acceptance phone call from Penn this afternoon (interviewed 1/14)!! I'll be pulling for the rest of you and am just really excited to be part of what I am sure will be an awesome class of 2015!

Hmm, so if we didn't get a phone call today, does that mean we weren't accepted?

Not at all. Some of the current students told me they received their acceptance via snail mail (several days after the interview). Definitely too soon to worry.

Hello everyone- so excited I just got my phone call for acceptance this afternoon as well!!! Guess I get to call Minnesota and cancel my interview🙂 I've been waiting 3 years to get into Penn and can't believe it finally happened!! I met some many wonderful people on Fri 1/14, and am certainly hoping some of those that I met will be in my class!!

Yay, congrats to the latest rounds of acceptances!! Way to go everyone! :claps:

And anthrovet, from reading previous Penn threads, I definitely wouldn't start worrying yet - people hear at different times post-interview.

And good luck to everyone else still waiting :luck:.

Anthrovet- I know I met you at interviews- you were super nice and I am sending lots of positive energy your way to hear good news too🙂

Yaaaay congratulations everyone!!!!

so happy to hear of all these acceptances!!! 😀 😀 i hope it'll be good news all the way through february & march... i remember reading on one of these threads (or maybe earlier in tihs one) that they take 80% of the first few batches and then by the end they only have room for a small percentage of the interviewing group and it's freaking me out, but i will try not to think about that and pretend it's not true... POSITIVE ENERGY FOR C/O2015!!!

Hi everyone,
I got my call today, too! I had my interview Friday and met so many amazing people. I wonder if I met any of you - I talked to many students (you all were great!) as well as other applicants who were really nice. I am SO excited that I'm accepted - it's been a long road for me! (Or so it feels..) Can't wait to meet you guys!

Nooo! Please don't be true!

hah i know i hope it's not... it makes me scared! 😱 but i guess it's jus logical that it happens since they interview in a specific order not all at once. i've also heard "a lot" of people getting in later in the dates, so maybe it's something we shouldn't be worrying about!

Let's hope so!

Congrats!

Looks like I have to wait another round to hear anything...

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if there been many people offered interviews that want to do equine? Or who's last name begins with "W"? I am trying to figure out if there is a method to the rounds...

congrats axel!:highfive:

awaring-keep ur head up! it is still jan.!! 🙂

awaring- i am just as antsy :-/

everyone else- congrats! im jealous!

Hi you guys that live in Philly! I'm going to be there on the 4th for my interview, sooo excited, and was just wondering if any of you know which restaurant has the best vegan chinese food. I haven't been to the city since I was 16 (that was a long time ago), and remember going to some great places. Any info would be appreciated!
And, congrats to all accepted!😀

I am not equine but my last name begins with "W" 😉 I haven't heard anything so I'm just trying to be patient 🙂

I have my interview tomorrow, and I'm so excited to see the school and meet some students. It seems like people have been having great experiences so far.

Not too fond of the nasty weather coming in tonight. Also not fond of the possibility of my suit getting salty and gross while on the tour if it's before the interview! C'est la vie!

Good luck to everyone interviewing tomorrow!

Don't worry about your suit getting salty -- you'll be inside for a significant portion of the tour and everyone will be in the same boat! 🙂 If it is snowy in the morning, don't be embarrassed to bring sensible shoes (and your interview shoes to change into).

Thanks! I know everyone's in the same boat, but it would be frustrating to make such a long trip and all of the accommodations to get to an interview, then end up showing up to the interview covered in crap . And not know if you have time to change, which I did at OSU. (PS- My mom's the kind of person who packs for 3 seasons for a week-long vacation... so forgive my tendency for over-preparedness.)

it's that day of the week again!!
good luck tomorrow to everyone interviewing!
and when you get your acceptance calls pretty please post on interview feedback 🙄 haha thanks!!

i can't wait to be there! 2 weeks!!!

Good luck to everyone interviewing today! Knock 'em dead!🙂

I'm also a "W" and large animal (not equine), and have not heard anything either. Hoping we both hear good news soon!

Eeek. I interviewed last Friday and I still haven't gotten anything from UPenn-- :\ Probably not a good sign, huh? Does anyone know when they send out official rejections? I've been accepted to two other schools and I'd like to know if UPenn is in or out-- I don't think I could wait until the end of March when all of the interviews are over though-- that would just drive me nuts!

I was told we would get a letter within 2 weeks no matter what. I still haven't received anything. Pulling for you!

Good luck all of you!!!!!!!! I was SOOO nervous/excited for my interview but it was actually the most fun and relaxed of all the schools I looked at so you guys will do great!

A few little things...

As far as I know, interviewing late in the season doesn't mean anything. Especially if you are FA or Equine since they try to wait to interview you on New Bolton day! So no news is NOT necessarily bad news! And for those of you coming out on New Bolton day - it was a great day 🙂

For those of you who didn't get that call, don't worry! Some professors just don't call, they are probably too busy writing ambiguous multiple choice questions for our upcoming exams  But even if you sadly didn't get accepted right away, a fair amount of people will be put on "hold" where they tell you they will reassess your application once all interviews are done. You will then hear definitively in March. So don't worry too much (trust me, I worried myself sick...so I understand!).

Good luck!!! :luck:

Yayyyyyy! This just made my day! 😀
I'll still be a compulsive email checker, but now I am not 99% neurotic about being rejected. Now it's more of 89%.

Wishful thinking and good thoughts to everyone else still waiting! :xf:

So, to those who have been accepted- and are deciding to go to Penn in the fall-
1. is anyone thinking of commuting from any sort of distance?? ( I live about 45ish minutes north, and know a couple of people who have, but don't know if it's what I want to do)
2. Anyone looked into housing at all?

Looking forward to hearing from some of ya!

45 min without traffic? well, it is possible, but i wouldnt want to be in your shoes. The days get long and you'd probably have to leave 1.5 hrs earlier to make sure you are on time. the traffic in the city sucks. i have a friend who lives in northern liberties, about 10 min drive and sometimes it can take them 30+ min to get to school.

i mean, you would be saving on rent if you lived at home (assuming with parents?) it just depends on if you are willing to do it. I know i dont have the discipline.

Our lectures are recorded though so i know some people who skip class and just listen to the recordings. But you still have to come in during labs. And id say about 90% of our class still goes to lecture so it once again just depends on what you're comfortable doing

Hi Wiki22!
First of all congrats on your acceptance!

Most penn vet students live in the west philly area - I've found that the closer that you can get to campus the better. In general people tend to live along spruce st from 38th to about 46th or down baltimore ave.
I wouldnt go past 44th if you're living on walnut, 47th if you're on spruce or pine, and 50th if you're on baltimore. The campus police only patrol up to 43rd street although the university city police cover a larger area. Biking is great when weather allows but during this time of year its next to impossible.

You should ask to join the facebook group for the accepted students! Accepted students will be added approximately 2 weeks after their interview date. This should be a good way for you to find roommates and housing - upperclassmen tend to post a lot of stuff regarding available housing.

🙂

I got my rejection letter from UPenn today... sadness! Good luck to all of you who are still in the running!

Sorry to hear that Anthrovet 🙁

Congrats on your other two acceptances though!!

Sorry Anthrovet 🙁 rejections suck! But looks like you still have some fine options!! so yay you!!

Anthrovet- super sorry about the rejection- at least you have acceptances though🙂 Hated getting rejected from Penn two years in a row and everywhere else.

It looks like moving to the city it probably is. I know it's silly to try to commute, even though I know a couple of people who have done it. I think I'd be more stressed with the thought of having that drive ahead of me each day, and make me more likely to stay home for the slightest reason- and I really do want to go to class.

I'm going to start looking at some places- do you guys know if a lot of people find places and live alone, or are the majority with room-mates? I'm waiting to get the info from Penn to get email going, and to be able to join the facebook group would be great- guess I need to wait until they send me something about it. I'm glad at least I know this far in advance that I need to look for somewhere, so hopefully it won't be last minute. I tried to use the off campus housing link on the website today, but it was down, so hopefully it will be up and running soon.

Got my acceptance phone call yesterday! Yay! Poor guy woke me up in the middle of the day (I work nights) and asked if he'd gotten me at a bad time. Definitely don't mind waking up for that, though!

I thought they were sending out interview invites weekly. Why haven't there been more invites yet?

Wiki22- I also live about 45 minutes away by train, but I'm going to start looking into housing soon 🙂

I just got my interview invite! It was strange/awkward because they called me first and asked if I was still interested in Penn and I had a minor heart attack thinking something was wrong with my application and that they were missing something. Then they asked about me being a NY resident and if I received admission to Cornell...so I answered no so it was a bit of an awkward moment, but then she told me I was being invited to interview! I got the e-mail shortly after.

Has anyone heard of this happening before with NY residents? That maybe they don't want to waste their time interviewing them until after the Cornell decisions are out?

Whatever I can't question it. I'm just really excited!

lol that is so weird they asked that. i mean, i can understand that it would be a waste of time to interview someone from NY if they were accepted to cornell but you still never know which school someone will choose. and there is a big diff in their curriculum (PBL). whether or not it seems like a waste of time i feel like thats not appropriate to ask. oh well, yayyy u got an interview!! lol

I am a NY resident and haven't heard anything from UPenn yet. Maybe I will soon..? :xf:

Congrats on your interview!
