Alright.. to clear up some confusions...

By random, I meant they take a certain # of applications and choose out of those their 30 for that week.
Now, I'm not sure if they're necessarily "ranked" or not ranked.. they could be just telling me this - but from what I understood, it's more random than anything. So, just because you are not called for an interview YET, doesn't mean you're less qualified 🙂

Also, 350 rejection letters were already sent. I'm not sure when they were, but it seems like you would've already gotten them. However, they're not done with rejection letters. In a couple of weeks, they'll send out another round of rejection letters.... so that's the scary part. I'm not sure when they'll send them out - the guy didn't even seem like he knew for certain.

Anyways, let's all try to stay positive!!! I, myself, keep having small anxiety moments throughout the day... but I'm trying to hang in there as much as I can 🙂
 
I believe the first round of rejections go out around thanksgiving/beginning of December. I know of a few people that have gotten rejections around that time, as well as there are a few people who posted rejections on the "official rejections" thread. So it seems that first batch of 350 was sent out awhile ago.

Someone in the rejection thread got an email yesterday, so those of us that are still waiting are still in the running! (At least I hope... I've had one interview, and got rejected by my IS.)

Only saturday and sunday 🙁 but it still looks like a delicious place to eat so I still might head over there for dinner. And I might add, that having something like this so close to campus, just makes UPenn even more enticing, as if the school itself wasn't enough! lol


Niteangel: Hang in there, I know your waiting for your response! I think someone said earlier that only a few professors call students if they have time. Otherwise you just have to wait for that lucky letter in snail mail! :xf:

And for others still waiting, they said they reviewed our entire files before inviting us for an interview. My file was reviewed 3 times before I was finally rejected last year (my grades weren't competative enough in the end, but I think they were holding on to my file because I was still qualified). So if you haven't gotten a response back, they could be holding on to your file and waiting to see how you stack up with the rest of the applications or they could have not reached your file yet.

Good Luck to all those SDNers that are interviewing today! Go knock their socks off!! :luck:

Thanks SouthJerseyBell! You have no idea how many times I keep telling myself I probably got the professors who do not call! (Staying optimistic until the end🙂)

I also second what you said about them holding application til the end. Mr. Keiter told me that same thing when I met with him last year after my rejection. He said I was qualified, and they were holding my application because of this, but at the end I just did not match up well against the applicants they already interviewed. This did gave me a lot of hope for this year, especially since I got an interview😀

So hang in there everyone still waiting! Anything can happen.

if this one place makes it enticing for you, then you'll be blown away once you see what else is around lol i actually think most people in our class don't even know about this place, they are busy going to other super delicious places! i'm going into centery city tonight yayy!

just chatted it up with some interviewees during lunch, always fun 🙂 i have no idea who goldenretrievergirl is though lol she never told me her name!

Got an interview invite this afternoon for February 25!!!!!!! 🙂 finally!!!!
 
They interview 30 candidates each week....
They interview until the end of February (maybe early March)...
This past week's interview date was for February 25th...
February 25th is the last Friday in February...
They will most likely only interview 30 more people MAX...
I have not heard anything from them...



Crap... 🙁

Oops. Sorry! I guess I missed that. Just call me Captain Oblivious. 😀 Today was a really great day! My interview was very relaxed and Mr. Keiter and Dr. Rebbecchi were such nice interviewers. 🙂 Was very impressed and hope to hear some good news on Monday maybe? Good luck to everyone still waiting! I'm rooting for you!

From what I read, they sent interview invitations out through the end of February. So the interview go till the beginning of March or so.

At least we haven't been rejected yet, right? :xf:
 
Hang in there, everyone! (I'm in the no-response yet from UPenn boat!) I just want to know already though... Do things to entertain you while you wait 😀 (Like panic about your other schools 😉)

For those of you who are interviewing end of February, are you small or large animal people? From what I've read on here us Large Animal folks go last...Any large animal people out there heard anything yet?

I'm in the same boat as you - LA and still waiting. I don't want to discourage you, but I believe a few large animal people have received interviews already. I'm still holding on to hope, though! You should, too! :xf:
 
Thanks horsingaround31! This is tough because I've been accepted to another school but they over-accept. I'm kind of in a time crunch to decide if I want to go there or not. I'm OOS so there are very limited seats but I have an equine/large animal interest so I've been holding out for UPENN (also the LAST school I have left to hear from). I don't want to give up on penn, but I want to go to school next year.

hang in there, birty88! If it's any consolation, I'm IS and still haven't heard anything from UPenn and have a similar situation with an acceptance to a school that overaccepts😱 🙁 best of luck!!!
 
I think I've pretty much given up on Penn. But, I have other great choices, so no complaints...although I did really like Penn, obviously, and if I miraculously did get an interview would still go. There's someone on the successful applicants 2014 thread who, on paper, is nearly identical to me (same background, similar stats, same IS, etc. it's kind of uncanny!) who got into the same schools I did and was rejected from Penn. So I'm not going to take it personally, I think we're just not the type of students Penn is looking for. Good luck to everyone else still waiting!!!!

And, I think its really terrible that some schools are saying your offer will be rescinded *before* April 15 if # people accept first. This process isn't a game show! Everyone has so much that goes into making their decision, many of us don't have all the info we need to make a decision yet (like other schools we're waiting on, or spouses on the job market or or or)! And it's quite likely that it is against the collective agreement the schools have that established April 15th as the deadline - there was a mention in the Official Acceptances thread that a admissions director at one school said the AVMA (or AAVMC?) was going to talk to schools participating in this tactic. I imagine it also disadvantages schools who do interviews/acceptances on the later end of this process.

i was reading thru the thread and i think oregon was one, but i'm not sure if other schools do it too. it's a pretty weird policy...i thought all the schools agreed that you can respond by 4/15 without penalty...

omg i can't focus at work, refreshing sdn and staring at my phone and trying to will it to ring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! please call me!

No no, Penn didn't do this - I was responding to the two posts above mine (fellow 'haven't heard anything from penn' folks) who were concerned that waiting for Penn would cause them to lose OOS seats elsewhere. I think I've heard of OrSU, MSU and VMRCVM including a statement like that on their acceptance letters.

oo ok, so to the people who are worried about losing their OOS seats: you accept a spot, and if u get accepted to penn or another school you are waiting on--> then you withdraw your seat from first school and accept your top choice school. yes, you lose some money...it is nothing compared to total tuition. There is no such thing as losing your seat lol you should put a deposit down no matter what. and yes, you should find out from all schools by the april deadline but this sometimes happens when people get called off the waitlist or something after the april deadline.

and yea, these new acceptance letters that are dependent on how many other students accept are pretty lame. isnt that what a waitlist is for?? strange
 
I just got my acceptance phone call!!!!! I was pretty bummed since it is getting late in the work day and I hadn't yet received a phone call. I was sitting on the couch reading my ochem lab prep for tomorrow and my phone rang and it was Mr. Keiter! YAY!!!! Good luck to all of you still waiting. Don't give up!!!
 
It's a really tough decision because I loved Ohio. I'm going to have to think about it for a few days, just to be safe, but staying in-state would be great/I have family in Philly/and I live only about two hours north of Penn. All that AND the school was sooooo impressive when I was there on Friday! 🙂 It's an amazing place and I'm honored to have been accepted. 🙂 Again, good luck everyone and I'll stop chewing up the thread with my gushing.
 
Very happy for you! It's a GREAT problem to have, that's for sure. I'm worried I'll get accepted too, because I loved Ohio so much too ;p
 
Congrats to those who got phones calls today!


Any idea on how long it takes Penn to send out those acceptance/rejection letters? Its been over a week (10 days, but who's counting😛) since my interview and I have yet to hear anything! I think they said up to two weeks after?

I know my worrying is a premature, but I can't help it! I am too excited/nervous I just want to know already🙂


EDIT: Actually just got an email after posting this saying I have been put on hold, but the letter says after my interview on 2/4/11...even though I was interviewed on 1/28/11.weird? I think so...

Niteangel - I wish you the best! That is weird that they got the date wrong, but either way, I hope this is just a terrible delay before you receive better news!

It was suggested that I call the admissions office to ask about my "Hold Status" email. I am going to call them after I get into work this morning.

I haven't heard back either but I'm OOS... I know two others from my university, one with lower and one with higher stats, that haven't heard anything as well. The waiting game is no fun 🙁.

niteangel-dont worry, being on hold is better than a rejection it just means they couldnt make up their mind and they will review your file after they finish interviewing all of the other candidates
 
I am OOS and equine and have not heard from them.

Are there any people who are equine/LA that have been interviewed already? I am hoping they are saving us all until last...

Not to discourage you but I know a few LA (including myself) that are interviewing at the NBC this Friday (eeeek, so nervous!:scared:) but there could be more LA interviews later (it sounds like its been a little different every year), and I know they sometimes interview a few LA applicants with everyone else, so don't give up hope!:luck:

I agree, other LA/Equine, don't give up! you could try calling up admissions to see if they are planning to have a second LA interview day. Last year there was only one day, but years before I heard there were two. I also know a few people who were LA, but were interviewed on regular fridays and didn't get to tour the NBC. So even if there isn't another LA day, you can definitely still be called in for an interview. Good Luck to all of you!

Niteangel- Arg!! It sounds like Penn doesn't have a big wait list so there might be a great chance that you can get called up later. :xf: Wish the best!

I'm always reluctant to call admissions offices to ask about stuff like this (I feel like they must have a million people pestering them about when they will hear) but I will call them tomorrow and ask if they are doing another LA day. I will post what I find out.

I am small animal and I haven't heard either...maybe there is hope. I called this morning and he said they would be sending invites out through the end of February.
 
So I just got off the phone with admissions asking about another LA/equine interview date. The woman was really annoyed saying she has gotten tons of calls about the same thing (which is exactly why I hate calling) and she said they are doing interviews this Friday at New Bolton and then no more. 🙁

So yeah.. guess this means I wont need to be posting on this thread much anymore...


*sigh*
