UPenn c/o 2018 applicants!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks, Cheerio! Do you know when they're going to set up the c/o 2018 facebook page? I know apparently a lot of upperclassmen list their apartments on their facebook pages.
Nope, I got an email 2 weeks ago about it & it said they'd send a second email with the link shortly, but I haven't heard anything since.

Sweet! Will they invite me over email or will it be directly through facebook? So excited!!!
I think it was through email? Can't actually remember haha. If you're interested I could PM you the more recent housing postings. You'll probably be invited soon though!

I'm getting more and more convinced that I will be attending Penn this fall, so I'm starting to browse housing too. Who needs studying?! I'm so excited!!

That would be absolutely wonderful if you have the time to do that! I'm pretty sure that I'm going to be attending next year, too! I'm definitely procrastinating a whole lot on studying haha

Also, do any 2017's or earlier have any advice on where to live?

Most people live in between like 32nd and 45th Street. And a good number of people live in Center City too in the 20th streets. A lot of it just depends on how much you're willing to pay, how long you want to walk to school and if you have pets. Upperclassman will definitely post on your class page once it's open to us. As of right now, we can't access it, so we have to send info to the Student Reps and they post on our behalf. And don't worry if you don't find something right away. I found my apartment for first year on Craig's List like two months before school started and it worked out fairly well. Some landlord issues, but nothing absolutely horrible.

Just out of curiosity, when you guys interviewed how many other people were getting interviewed that day too?

Have they actually rejected anyone who interviewed? Or is everyone who isn't immediately accepted put "on hold"? Is anyone actually accepted after being on hold initially?
I'm on hold and am getting the feeling it's just their way to soften the blow of rejection after interviewing.

People are rejected post interview. I was one of them when I applied. Exactly how many are rejected after each interview, I don't know. As for % accepted after being on hold, I don't know the numbers.

I just spoke with the admissions office on the phone and apparently they interview through March and schedule interviews at least 2 weeks in advance, so I guess they could invite you to interview as late as mid-March. Good news for those of us who haven't heard anything yet.

well they still have some interview days. I guess we hope for the best.

I also called admissions today, and the guy I spoke with said that right now the last day they have interviews scheduled is March 14, but they will possibly be extending interviews to the following Friday, March 21. He said they still haven't concluded the application process.

Trying to put things together...were you at happy hour by any chance? I talked to someone who likes corgis and I'm wondering if it's you.

I was at happy hour but I don't think I talked to anyone about corgis. I'm the Indian girl, brown suit, long hair?

Hi all - was wondering if you thought it was worth it to visit New Bolton again now that I'm accepted if I know that it's basically all I ever dreamed of in terms of equine medicine (but I am still considering other factors relevant to my decision). I would have to fly in, and I don't know how I would actually get out there. But Mac Keiter just emailed out to accepted candidates who missed going to NBC on Feb 14th (because of the weather) and who maybe wanted to go see it. Worth it if I already know it is equine mecca? lol

Hmm... I've been wondering this but didn't get an email (I was at the cancelled LA interview day)

If there's such a thing being offered, we can find a way. Maybe we could split a zipcar or something, I'll email him and look into it. I'd be really interested in checking it out. I know that they go there on one of the orientation days.

has anyone still not heard a word from upenn? sorry if this has already been answered somewhere... i don't know how to work this yet! thank you.

i haven't either. upenn is one of 2 schools i still haven't heard anything from.

Unfortunately due to some family/financial reasons, I may have to defer admissions until next year. Does anyone know Penn's policy on deferring?

I think they're pretty lenient about it... when I interviewed, they told us OOS people could defer for a year to gain residency, so I'd imagine they'd accept family/ financial reasons

It's your call--you're the only one who knows whether it's feasible for you and how much it'll affect your decision. I'm at the end of LA Block at the moment, so I'm getting a bit sick of the place, but if you're into equine, it's definitely an experience. Here's a brief list of all our shiny stuff:

-The main hospital with surgery and procedure rooms and four barns for our in-patients. The lobby is under construction at the moment, but it's pretty sweet.
-The orthopedic building with fancy surgery suites, their own barn with sling stalls, a recovery pool, ect. It had a zebra in it a few weeks ago.
-Radiography, CT, MRI, scintigraphy
-Regular ICU and NICU
-Shiny new building for isolation and colic patients
-An indoor ring for under saddle work
-A treadmill+endoscope setup. The treadmill has its own building.
-A "sports medicine" building with awesome ultrasound machines and other fun stuff
-A breeding facility to make new horses any way you want 'em
-A post room
-A toxicology lab
-Dean Richardson and all his ortho toys
-Mike Ross and all his lameness toys
-A teaching herd that's remarkably tolerant of rectal palpation
-A research herd of semi-feral ponies
-A working dairy and swine facilities in case you get bored of the ponies
-Research up the frickin' wazoo
-More stuff that's probably fascinating which I've forgotten 'cause I'm small animal

Yeah, we've got all the toys. If you decide to come here, you'll get the grand tour during orientation.

has anyone received the link for the Facebook page for the class of 2018?

I got mine in an email about half a week after the acceptance so don't worry 🙂 a student is in charge of inviting people so she'll get on it soon!

Just out of curiosity, about how many people interview each week?

When I interviewed there were exactly 30 people there. The admissions staff said they interview 30 applicants every Friday until the end of March. I was late for my interview so I walked into a room full of 29 other applicants. It was traumatizing. Luckily, I got in anyway (by some miracle).

So... Penn is the only school I haven't heard from. They certainly take a long time to send out rejections. Are they even sending out interview invites still?

I think next week would be as late as they'd send them. They'll probably finalize their class/send out rejections late march/early April
