Ugh i wish OOS interviews were in person instead of asynchronous. I know it’s fair since we are just competing against other OOS people but still, i like talking to humans 🥲
They used to be pre-covid!
I think it's primarily they didn't want to push travel requirements onto OOS students into the mountains of rural Appalachia in the middle of winter 😅 We narrowly dodged getting snowed out of our interviews last year! But having the option would be really cool

I was in the first IS cohort to do the in-person MMIs after they changed the structure post-COVID. Happy to answer any logistic questions! (but not anything about specific questions asked).
It was very different from schools who use recorded video MMI interviews as it was actually in person through rotating stations. I don't think it was "harder" than any other interview or MMI in terms of the actual interview topics, but it was long (about 1.5 hours I think) and relatively fast-paced.

The experience overall was really fun! (although wildly nerve-wracking; especially as someone with interview nerves to begin with 💀). The assessors were friendly and I met a lot of people that I would have loved to have as classmates. Despite the relative difficulty I heard pretty unanimously from re-applying students that the in-person structure was preferred over the video structure from years prior, as you can really show yourself and your strengths.
Thank you so much for sharing! If you're comfortable answering this, did any of the questions require reading a prompt in a limited amount of time? I do have accommodations, so I was able to get extra time to read prompts for a different school's MMI and it helped a ton. I totally understand if that's too specific of a question! I’m just wondering if that's something I should be reaching out to them about or if it'a not going to be an issue.

Yes, the structure is a typical MMI format of X minutes to read + X minutes to answer 🙂. They had us rotating through rooms right behind each other as well, so I would reach out to the school as soon as possible to make sure they can accommodate!

Thank you so much!

Anyone know if the waitlist decisions are based on all-around applications or mainly based off the SJT? Would any of the “interview accepted” applicants be willing to share their stats to compare?

I think someone posted a photo of the breakdown earlier

Here is the link for the evaluation criteria as posted on the website. I know it is HARDDDDD not to, but try not to get super hung up on stats. Comparison is the thief of joy! Good luck on this cycle. It only takes one!

are any VA students planning to decline their interview? has anyone who was waitlisted for interview pulled off?

If it makes you feel any better, I got distracted by my own floating head last year and ended up staring at myself during a full response, not towards the camera, and it all worked out still. 🤣

It’s weird, embrace it, I bet everyone’s pretty awkward! They know you’re talking to yourself and I think they probably are pretty kind about it.

Do we think OOS will hear back on the earlier or later side of this week? Since Friday is the 9th 🫣
Im thinking later since break just finished but I still find myself refreshing anyways, this is the last school i need to hear from 🤣

Hello!

I was doing some research and heard that different schools use different ratios of types of MMI questions eg roleplay versus topic discussion versus basic interview questions. For example, a med school might choose to do only roleplay/acting scenarios. Can you provide any info on the type of MMI questions you remember dealing with?

Not sure how much detailing can give but I can at least say they did not use actors.

If/when you are invited to interview they will give you a pretty good breakdown of the interview setup and their evaluation criteria, so don't worry about any surprises!

Okay, that's great to hear. The idea of needing to do improv was pretty scary 😅

Thank you for your help!
